A bereaved sister has shared the heartbreaking moment her sister received an honor walk through the hospital following her sudden cardiac arrest.
Mom-of-three Jasmine Barbuto went into cardiac arrest on April 9 and was eventually discovered on the kitchen floor by her young children. They called 911 and emergency services revived Barbuto, 41, twice before transferring her to the hospital. Unfortunately, it's thought that she was without oxygen for around 30 to 40 minutes while unconscious, and she was left with no brain function.
Barbuto's younger sister, Jade Chipps, 35, told Newsweek that it all happened "out of the blue" and the family was left in a state of shock. Medical professionals are still trying to work out the exact cause.
"Jasmine was a very loving and nurturing person. She took pride in being a mother to her three children, being a wife to her husband, who is a sheriff, and she loved her job as a nurse," Chipps, of Naples, Florida, said.

For the six days she was in the hospital, Barbuto had many tests, and the staff tried to make her comfortable however they could. As she was an organ donor, it was decided that her organs should be harvested to help transplant patients.
Before that surgery, Barbuto received an emotional "honor walk" through the hospital on April 15. As her bed was wheeled through the corridors, around 250 people stood by in silence to pay their respects to the mom-of-three who would go on and save more lives.
"I felt so sad during that moment, but proud that she would still help others even in passing. Hundreds of people showed up, most of them being her friends, family, nurses she worked with, and her husband's coworkers from the sheriff's department," Chipps said.
Chipps shared footage of the honor walk on TikTok (@jadalous), and there wasn't a dry eye left on the internet. In just a matter of days, the video has gone viral with over 3.8 million views and 423,800 likes on TikTok at the time of writing.
While the family is happy to know that a part of Barbuto will be "living through others," that certainly hasn't made the grief any easier. Chipps explained that the family has taken it hard, and they can't help but ask why this happened to Barbuto.
"She was the best mother and loved her children more than anything. It still doesn't really even feel real. She was so young," Chipps told Newsweek.
The family has started a GoFundMe for Barbuto's widowed husband and her three children as they face this challenging next phase of their lives. Chipps explained that they don't want her husband to have to "stress about bills while being a widow."
After sharing her family's loss on social media, Chipps has been amazed by the online response. She's grateful to the thousands of commenters and well-wishers who offered their condolences.
Chipps said: "A lot of people have been commenting to say that Jasmine was their nurse, and she was so gentle and caring. Others that we don't know, and a lot of nurses said the video touched them and made them emotional."
This has led to more than 3,200 comments on the TikTok post so far.

St. Joseph man seeks bone marrow transplant after cancer diagnosis
ST. JOSEPH, Mo. (News-Press NOW) — Time is critical for 24-year-old Lionso Canchola of St. Joseph, who urgently needs a bone marrow transplant after being diagnosed with aggressive forms of cancer. He's a very positive and good kid. He's been like that his entire life," said Lionso's mother, Sonja Canchola. "He's already saying that once he gets into remission, he wants to help other people battling cancer." According to his family, Lionso had been healthy his entire life, actively involved in sports and with a deep passion for music. He frequently performed at Felix Street Square in St. Joseph until one night when he developed a fever. It was soon discovered by medical staff that he had B-cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, PH-like, which affects both the bone and blood. According to Clinical Lymphoma, Myeloma & Leukemia, the prevalence of this leukemia subtype is approximately 12% in children, 21% in adolescents (ages 16–20), and 20–24% in adults over age 40, with a peak of 27% in young adults aged 21–39. "With that diagnosis, they stated that a bone marrow transplant is a must because his survival rate is significantly higher with one," Sonja said. Despite the toll cancer is taking on his body, Lionso remains in good spirits. He even recorded a video from the hospital thanking the community for their support and inviting people to visit if they'd like. "My neighbor started a GoFundMe for him and then we had family come together to organize a fundraiser that's being held on June 21," Sonja added. "The community has just stepped in to show support in so many ways and that's why we love the community of St. Joseph." For this form of cancer, medical experts suggest that a sibling is typically the best initial source for a matching donor. However, if that fails, a match may still be found among unrelated donors from afar. Research also shows that cells from younger donors give patients the best chance at long-term survival. "Oftentimes, it's said that siblings or first cousins are the best matches," said Bonnie Canchola, a member of the Canchola family. "But many, many times, an absolute stranger from across the country could be the one to save a life." Sonja said, like many parents, she never expected something like this to happen to her child until it did. She hopes people will continue to show their support so that Lionso can find a match. "I've often associated cancer with older people who've lived a full life and my son hasn't," she said. "It would mean the world to me to know someone out there is willing to save his life. A benefit cornhole tournament for Lionso will be held on Saturday, June 21, from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at the Eagles Lodge, 2004 N. Belt Highway in St. Joseph. Meriden woman with rare brain condition inspires others on social media
HARTFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — A Connecticut woman had no idea she had a rare brain condition since birth until she passed out and was flown to Hartford Hospital, where she would end up needing four surgeries. 'My mom had said that I came to her with a regular headache and she said within a matter of five minutes, I had passed out,' 26-year-old Michaela Williams of Meriden said. That jumpstarted her emergency medical ordeal. Dr. Eric Sussman, a Hartford Hospital neurosurgeon helped save her life. It turns out that Williams was among just 1% of the population to have a condition called arteriovenous malformation, or AVM. It is abnormal tangles of high pressure blood vessels in her brain. They flowed into delicate arteries which started to bleed under pressure. 'Removing the AVM is very, I think, one of the more complex surgeries that we do. But in her case it was just the whole clinical picture of her being sick and really teetering on the edge the whole time she was here,' Sussman, who specializes in vascular surgery, said. Sussman says Williams underwent four surgeries, including a craniotomy, where part of her skull was removed to allow her brain to heal for a period of time. Williams' strength and faith pulled her through. Sussman calls it miraculous. 'I'm still creative. I like to write. I like to paint. I like to go outside,' Williams said, who continues to make uplifting TikTok videos like she did before her diagnosis. She hopes to help others who may be going through a tough time. 'I want them to feel encouraged, understood, heard. I want them to feel like they're not the only one,' Williams would like to make a dating app for others living with brain injuries.'Everybody that follows me on TikTok, they are family. They encourage me, they push me, uplift me and we encourage and push and uplift each other,' Williams said. There are two very positive takeaways from Williams' journey. First, she was very lucky that her mother was home when she first passed out to get her emergency care. Second, Dr. Sussman said that her brain will continue to heal, possibly for a few more years.
