2025 James Madison Football Predictions: Dukes Ranked 50th in RJ Young's Ultimate 136

This isn't your average college football ranking.
My Ultimate 136 is a set of rankings that is fluid, but it's my job to look ahead and make a claim for all FBS teams based on what I know and why I know it. Here are the three pressing questions I started by asking when putting together this list:
Who do I think is good?
Why do I think they're good?
What are the chances they will finish above or below my expectations?
Here is a look at where James Madison lands in my Ultimate 136.

Last year's ranking: 39
Top player: RB Ayo Adeyi: Only played two games last season due to a season-ending injury, but totaled 1,824 rushing yards and 10 rush TDs from 2022 to 2023.

RJ's take: If Alonza Barnett retains the starting job, it's not hard to see the Dukes continuing to be offensively exceptional. Barrett threw for nearly 2,600 yards with 26 touchdowns and just four interceptions last season before suffering a leg injury against Marshall. Along with a healthy Adeyi, a 1,000-yard rusher at North Texas in 2023, head coach Bob Chesney has the tools to put up points in the Sun Belt.

Chesney also tooled up with 13 defensive transfers, including five out of the FCS and former Notre Dame defensive Aiden Gobaira. If EDGE Xavier Holmes and linebacker JT Kouame-Yao can notch double-digit tackles for loss in the "Little SEC" like they did at Maine and D-II Shepherd, respectively, expect the Dukes' defense to be tough.

Want to attend 2026 World Cup games for free? FIFA needs 65,000 volunteers
The pay is nonexistent, but the perk could be viewing games in the U.S., Mexico and Canada for free during FIFA World Cup 26 next summer. FIFA launched the application process for World Cup 26 volunteers Monday. How many are needed? A staggering 65,000 across the 16 cities that will host the expanded 48-team format over 39 days beginning June 11, the largest volunteer program FIFA has ever attempted. 'Volunteers are the heart, soul and smile of FIFA tournaments,' FIFA president Gianni Infantino said. 'They get to show off their local pride, gain a behind-the-scenes view of the tournament and make memories and friendships that can last a lifetime, while supporting a historic event. 'We hope interested individuals will join us as we welcome the world to North America in 2026.' In addition to stadiums, volunteers will provide support across at training sites, airports and hotels. FIFA estimates 6.5 million fans will attend World Cup 26, with 3.7 million attending games in the U.S., 1.5 million in Mexico and 1.3 million in Canada. The 2022 final with Lionel Messi leading Argentina past Kylian Mbappé and France, drew a record 1.42 billion viewers, including 26 million in the U.S. 'The Super Bowl, which is fantastic, has what, 120-130 million viewers? The World Cup has six billion,' Infantino told Fox Sports in April. 'A World Cup is 104 Super Bowls in one month.' Volunteers in the past ranged from students to seniors. No experience is required but applicants must be at least 18 years old. Interested individuals can apply at Those whose applications are accepted will be invited to attend the Volunteer Team Tryouts, which are expected to begin in October. Training will take place in March 2026. 'Volunteers are the heartbeat of FIFA events and champions of their host city — sharing their pride and passion with fans from all corners of the globe, welcoming visitors to experience the unique culture of their host city and supporting the extraordinary event that is a FIFA World Cup,' FIFA said in a statement. Los Angeles is one of 11 U.S. host cities, with eight games scheduled at SoFi Stadium, including the U.S. team's opener June 12. After playing its second match in Seattle on June 19, the U.S. will conclude group play at SoFi on June 25. Included in the games to be played in Inglewood are two round-of-32 games and a quarterfinal. Only one venue — AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas — was awarded more games with nine. 'We're happy with with how it turned out,' U.S. coach Gregg Berhalter said. 'We look forward to being in L.A. [and] probably one of the best stadiums in the world and to get to play there twice in the group stage.' Other U.S. hosts cities include Seattle, Houston, Kansas City, Atlanta, Boston, New York/New Jersey, Philadelphia, Miami and the San Francisco Bay area. Games in Mexico and Canada will be held in Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara, Toronto and Vancouver. 'FIFA changed my life,' longtime volunteer Craig Collins said on a video. 'Why do I want to volunteer again? I can give back to an organization that has provided for me without knowing it. Collins became the one millionth person to join the FIFA volunteer community in April 2025. Tom Brady implores parents to 'teach your kid the right values' amid rise of NIL in college sports
The college football landscape has been described as the wild west in recent years as athletes have earned sums of money off of their names, images and likenesses as well as been able to use the transfer portal to find the best schools that fit their needs. Tom Brady admitted in a conversation with FOX Sports college football analyst Joel Klatt that he was happy he didn't have to deal with some of the things that college football players are dealing with today while at Michigan. He suggested that players aren't necessarily better off because of NIL and the frequent use of the transfer portal and put the onus on the athletes' parents to instill resilience in them at a young age. "They're young. They don't have life experience," Brady said on "Big Noon Conversations." "It should be the parents. Be a good parent. Teach your kid the right values. What's going to sustain them in their careers over a period of time? Whether it's football or whether it's business or whether it's teaching or law school or medical school or a trade, whatever you want to do, you're going to have to go through hard things in your life. You're going to have to make tough choices. The value isn't always about the last dollar. "So I think all these things that are happening in college sports, we're prioritizing the wrong things. We're valuing the wrong things. I'm not saying it's not important. It's one of 10 things that are important, and certainly to me, it's not the most important. So when kids do go through that the right way, they're actually learning the right values. When you have the right values in life, that's going to sustain you as you move on through the rest of your life." Brady wondered whether athletes in college football will be able to learn "those sustainable traits that I think are invaluable to their life and life experience" and disagreed that money was the only thing that had value in college. He expressed some gratitude for having a challenging time while at Michigan. Brady wasn't thrown into the fire as a starter right away. Instead, he rode the bench for two seasons before he became a starter for the Wolverines in the 1998 season. "My college experience was very challenging. It was very competitive. Those traits transformed my life as a professional. I was ready to compete against anybody, because the competition in college toughened me up so much that I had a self-belief and self-confidence in myself that whatever I faced, I could overcome that," he said. "I think if we take that away from a young student athlete, to say, 'You know what, I know it's tough to compete, but what we're going to do before you have to compete. We're actually going to put you somewhere else so that you don't have to compete.' That is absolutely the wrong thing to do to a young child."

Tom Brady's Fox broadcast schedule expected to start in Washington, Kansas City and Chicago: Source
The second year of the Tom Brady broadcasting experience will begin in the nation's capital. Fox's top NFL team — Brady, Kevin Burkhardt, Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi — will call the New York Giants at Washington Commanders game at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sept. 7, the first Sunday of the regular season. The following week, the crew will be in Kansas City for one of Fox's biggest early season games — a Super Bowl LIX rematch between the Philadelphia Eagles and the Chiefs. Advertisement It hasn't been announced yet but the team is expected to be in Chicago for the Week 3 game between the Dallas Cowboys and Bears, per a source briefed on Fox Sports' NFL plans who spoke on condition of anonymity because the network hasn't said anything publicly. Prior to the schedule release, Fox asked the NFL for more variety among the teams in its 4:25 p.m. ET Sunday window. Fox has long relied on the Cowboys in this late-afternoon window (the most-watched time slot on television), but this year schedule on Fox leans into more teams in the late afternoon, including the Eagles-Chiefs in Week 2. 'I think CBS has actually had good success having their first doubleheader be in Week 2 the last couple years, so we asked to move off Week 1 as the doubleheader,' Mike Mulvihill, the head of insights and analytics for Fox Sports, told The Athletic earlier this year. 'It's fine for a single-header, and we're coming back with our first really special game of the year (Philadelphia at Kansas City).' The Week 2 game for Fox should set the network up with its first big viewership number. The Super Bowl LIX broadcast of Philadelphia's 40-22 rout of Kansas City drew an average audience of 127.7 million viewers across Fox, Fox Deportes, Tubi, Telemundo and NFL digital properties, the most-watched Super Bowl of all time, topping last year's record Super Bowl audience of 123.7 million viewers for CBS.
