Spartans reportedly nearing hire of next AD, Georgia Tech's J Batt listed as a finalist
It appears Michigan State has zeroed in on a few finalists for the open athletic director role, with one report on Sunday suggesting there's a front-runner for the job.
Tony Paul of The Detroit News posted on social media early on Sunday morning that Georgia Tech director of athletics J Batt has "emerged" in the Spartans' search for the same position. Batt has been at Georgia Tech for two years, where he has had a lot of success in fundraising and is known as a "big basketball guy" according to Paul.
Somewhat conflicting with Paul's report, a few hours later Justin Thind of 247Sports reported that Michigan State is at the "shortlist of finalists" stage, with "no singular candidate being the focus above the rest at this point." Thind's report came roughly six hours after Paul posted on social media platform X, so one can believe this note from Thind was from following up on Paul's initial report.
Thind did add in an additional post on X that Batt is "one of the finalists" so there appears to be some clear interest in Batt from Michigan State.
Michigan State parted ways with Haller earlier this month after a nearly four-year run. Haller's final day at Michigan State was May 11.
It'll be interesting to see if a decision is coming soon for the Spartans. Both Paul and Thind's reporting would suggest Michigan State is close to making a hire and at this point in the process they are now just finalizing who that person will be.

Elite four-star QB Kavian Bryant to attend Texas camp After hosting a ton of top prospects over the weekend, the Texas Longhorns will hold a camp on Thursday in Austin. One of the top-ranked recruits in the entire country, four-star quarterback Kavian Bryant will attend the festivities per his social media. Hannah Coor, Kadey Lee McKay enter the transffer portal

Hannah Coor, Kadey Lee McKay enter the transffer portal The transfer portal has seen an influx of Oklahoma Sooners over the last few days. Catcher Corri Hicks entered the portal on Tuesday and was followed by outfielder Maya Bland on Wednesday. On Thursday, true freshman infielder Kadey Lee McKay and junior outfielder Hannah Coor reportedly entered the portal as well. McKay had just five at-bats for the Sooners in 2025. She was 1-for-5 with a run scored. The biggest loss to the portal thus far is arguably Coor, who was a regular part of the Oklahoma outfield. In 23 games, Coor hit .329 with two home runs, 15 RBIs, and 10 runs scored. She proved to be a strong defensive presence in centerfield. The Sooners are bringing back a significant part of their roster in 2025, including outfielders Kasidi Pickering and Abigale Dayton. There are high expectations for true freshman Tia Milloy to become a significant part of the Oklahoma lineup next year. The Sooners are also adding the No. 1 player in the 2025 recruiting class, outfielder Kai Minor, to the roster. The Sooners are also bringing in the No. 1 infielder in the class and No. 3 overall player, Lexi McDaniel. The Sooners will add talent in their 2025 recruiting class, but you can also expect the Sooners to be active in the transfer portal as well.
