Vishnuvardhan memorial demolition: Fans, Kannada stars express outrage, demand dignified tribute
Demolition of Dr Vishnuvardhan's memorial in Bengaluru
The sudden demolition of Kannada cinema legend Dr Vishnuvardhan's memorial in Bengaluru has caused shock and anger among his fans and the film industry and the memorial which was located at Abhiman Studio where the actor was cremated in 2009, was pulled down overnight on August 7–8, 2025 and reportedly it was done under police protection and following a Karnataka High Court order. This decision, carried out without public notice, deeply hurt his admirers, many of whom saw the place as sacred.
Reason behind the demolition
The demolition is linked to a long-running legal dispute. In 2015, the state government had allotted two acres of land at Abhiman Studio to the Vishnuvardhan Memorial Trust and however, the Balakrishna family, who own the studio, challenged the allotment in court, arguing that the land was taken without proper consent and that the promised compensation was never paid. In August 2023, the High Court ruled in favour of the family, restoring the land to them and this cleared the way for the removal of the memorial, even though fans had hoped for its preservation.

Several Kannada stars spoke out strongly
The move sparked massive outrage. Fans gathered at the site in grief and protest, with many blaming the government and Kannada Film Chamber of Commerce for not protecting the memorial. Several Kannada stars including Kichcha Sudeep, Rishab Shetty, Upendra, Dhruva Sarja and Sri Murali, spoke out strongly against the demolition. Sudeep compared it to destroying a temple, while Rishab Shetty called it an insult to one of the state's greatest actors.
About Dr Vishnuvardhan
Vishnuvardhan, born Sampath Kumar, was one of the biggest names in Kannada cinema, second only to Dr Rajkumar. In his 35-year career, he acted in over 200 films across Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam languages, earning titles like Sahasa Simha and 'The Angry Young Man' of Kannada cinema. His death at 59 in 2009 shocked the state, and his cremation at Abhiman Studio gave the site emotional value for fans.
Although the government has built a grand memorial for Vishnuvardhan in Mysuru, featuring galleries, rare photographs, personal belongings, and a life-sized statue but many fans still feel that it cannot replace the original cremation site. Allegations have also surfaced about political involvement and plans to use the land for commercial purposes, though these remain unverified.
Some voices are now calling for a lasting solution that to place Vishnuvardhan's memorial at Kanteerava Studio, alongside those of Dr Rajkumar and Ambareesh, to unite the three icons of Kannada cinema in one place.

Jyotika's hardcore workout routine at 46 puts strength training and endurance front and centre: Watch
Jyotika Saravanan, at the age of 46, sweated it out at the gym with intense, high-impact workouts. A clip showing her in action at the gym, capturing a wide variety of exercises, surfaced on social media. All the exercises captured in the video were hardcore, requiring not just strength but also stamina to keep up. Jyothika's workout included all types, from HIIT to strength endurance.(PC: IG/@tamil_cinema_update_007) What all exercises was she doing? Jyotika spared no effort, proving that age is not a barrier to pushing forward and challenging oneself. Her workout was well-rounded, and the actor gave it her all as she endured a variety of training styles. It included cardio, HIIT, strength training, core work, and strength endurance- basically a full-body workout routine. Some of the workouts included the use of various gym equipment, from dumbbells and ropes to an intense sledge push. In fact, even otherwise regular exercises, whether sit-ups, lunges, or planks, were done with added weights, showcasing that her routines leaned heavily towards strength training, even when targeting the core with exercises like planks. In other words, she cranked up the difficulty of each move by incorporating elements of strength or endurance. For example, instead of the standard stair-climbing machine (stairmaster), she hopped up actual stairs, turning a simple movement into a high-impact, power-driven drill, proving that her fitness game is absolutely fierce. On her work front Jyotika was last seen in the Netflix series Dabba Cartel in February this year. As an actor-producer, her most recent production was the Tamil movie Retro in May. Last year, she starred alongside Ajay Devgn and R. Madhavan in Shaitaan. ALSO READ: Jyotika talks about her return to Hindi after 25 years; playing diverse roles: 'There's absolute growth'

Saiyaara actor, 51, recalls facing bankruptcy, says he spent final Rs 250 on cheap booze and Chinese food, had zero money for three full days: ‘I don't wear those days as a medal'
Saiyaara has turned not only the Hindi film industry's fortunes around, it has also impacted the careers of everybody involved. Starring Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, the movie is directed by Mohit Suri. It opened around a month ago, and has so far made more than Rs 500 crore globally, breaking several records along the way. The romantic drama also features veteran actor Varun Badola in a supporting role. In an interview, Varun spoke about the film's success, and admitted that he didn't see it coming. He also spoke about Ahaan and Aneet's talents, and looked back on his own days of struggle. He told Nayandeep Rakshit on YouTube that even in his worst days, he maintained an integrity. 'I've never asked for work. And I've never spent lavishly. I had no need for multiple cars or a large house. I lived in Goregaon, I didn't have extra cars, and I lived within my means. To this day, it's not like I have to go out for dinner thrice a week. I have kept my expenses down to the lowest minimum possible,' he said. Also read – War 2 movie review LIVE Updates: Hrithik Roshan's actioner is Thugs of Hindostan moment for YRF, says analyst; says it falls short of Pathaan, War and Ek Tha Tiger He said that he hit rock bottom despite spending carefully because life throws so many unexpected hurdles in your way. Plus, he didn't want to take up jobs just for money. There were time when people came to him for help, and he helped them out. 'It's not that I wear those days as a medal on my chest. I don't. But it happened. Many times, I wouldn't know what would happen after two months. I was an assistant director back then,' he said. Recalling an anecdote about those days, Varun said, 'A friend and I were living together. We only had Rs 250 left, and we had absolutely nothing else. We decided to go out and splurge on Chinese food. After that, we went to a quarter bar and shared a drink. We didn't have money for three days after that. We got work after that, and got through another month with that Rs 3000 or Rs 4000. But these things happen.' Varun said that he has his passions, and that he has spent on an expensive motorbike and a sound system. But that's about it. In a past interview with Siddarth Kannan, Varun had said that bankruptcy keeps knocking on his door every few years. 'I was actually down to one and a half or two months of savings. I would've had no more than Rs 2 lakh in my bank account. This was in around 2015. It was me, my wife, our four-year-old child, my parents, and two dogs. It was a family of seven, and most people don't realise this, but when you have a young child at home, your expenses goes through the roof. And then you add the dogs; it's very expensive to take care of them. I was almost down to my last penny,' he said. Coincidentally, Varun isn't the only member of the Saiyaara cast who has experienced financial hardships in their career. Not too long ago, Rajesh Kumar opened up about being Rs 2 crore in debt after investing his savings in farming. He said in a post-Saiyaara interview with Meri Saheli, 'Bankruptcy, yes. The incoming and outgoing flow had gone for a toss. There was no incoming, and I had exhausted all my reserves because of the outgoing. I went under debt of Rs 2 crore. (Bankruptcy) is a big word, but definitely, I had that feeling with me for a long time. I was not able to generate money for survival also. This was definitely a phase.'
