'She's Not The Most Graceful, But She's Relentless': Why Rachel Brosnahan Wanted To Play Superman's Lois Lane
Actor Rachel Brosnahan is no stranger to playing strong women — Midge Maisel in The Marvelous Mrs Maisel, Rachel Posner in House of Cards, Emily Donovan in The Courier. Now, the Golden Globe winner is adding one of ELLE's favourite comic book heroines to the list, as she takes on the role of Lois Lane in upcoming blockbuster Superman, starring alongside David Corenswet and Nicholas Hoult.
Brosnahan has a busy summer ahead of her, what with the film's world tour just around the corner. Though she still carved out time for a major fashion moment, heading to Rome this week for Dior's Cruise 2026 show, which was staged in the magical gardens of 18th century Villa Albani Torlonia. ELLE UK caught up with the actor to talk about her latest role, the style advice she swears by, and her go-to hotspots in Rome.
I heard that Maria Grazia was requesting that the women wear white and loved how romantic this dress was. I've been wearing a lot of black lately so it was nice to wear something that felt softer. The lace makes the dress seem demure at first but it's also fairly see through so it feels like I have a secret.
Always have to start with eye patches. Especially if fighting jet lag. The dress felt like it was calling for something as romantic as it was. I have naturally curly hair but rarely wear it so we wanted to embrace the curl but also pull it off my face. My hairstylist Jillian Halouska also tied a few small black and white bows in the back to hold it in place.
Emma Day, my brilliant makeup artist, and I have worked together for many years and she always uses colour so beautifully. She suggested a coral Dior Rosy Glow blush and lip and pulled some into the eyes too. I'm obsessed with the Dior Addict Lip Glows because they give you a little bit of a stain but are still glossy.

She's an icon and I'm standing on the shoulders of the brilliant women who helped bring her to life for different generations. I love that she's not always the most graceful in her pursuit, but that she's relentless in her quest for the truth. I think she's endured because it's inspiring to watch someone go to the ends of the earth for what they believe in. Sometimes literally in her case. It's also fun to watch someone like that get into trouble, which she often does, and have to rely on their own intelligence and instinct (and occasionally a Superman) to come out on top.

I'm a New Englander through and through. I spent childhood summers swimming in New Hampshire lakes or frolicking on the beaches of Southern Maine. And wherever I went, an L.L. Bean Boat and Tote was always in the mix. Monogrammed, oversized, and packed with snacks, sunscreen, and sandy towels, it was the bag that never let me down. New Insider Reports Indicate The DCU's ‘Superman' Movie Is Good
Superman This summer will mark the official launch of the DCU with Superman. Well, the official launch other than an animated series about murderous monsters (Creature Commandos). The live-action kick-off stars the most iconic hero in the world and early indications seem to be that it's…quite good. There have been some spins that have tried to paint 'troubled production' in Superman's final days, but it has only filmed 'pickups' in Atlanta recently, not actual reshoots. An additional composer was brought in, David Fleming, to join John Murphy, but both have music in the film and it's not as if one erased the other. One big sign that the movie is solid, other than Gunn saying so himself, is that the entire, finished movie is set to be ready to go as of next Friday, according to THR's Heat Vision. Getting that in a full five weeks ahead of release is reportedly a sign of 'studio satisfaction.' Besides that, there are the one-off tweets here and there about leaked test screenings. Here's filmmaker Joe Russo (not that one) on Twitter, retweeting the production news: 'Can confirm. I have a friend who saw it in April and he said it delivers. You might even say James Gunn's SUPERMAN is… super good.' It always seemed likely that Gunn would land the plane when it came to Superman, as all we have to do is look at his other superhero projects and see that he simply has not missed with any of them so far, a big reason he was tapped for the DCU job in the first place. Here's the line-up of his DC and Marvel projects: Not a bad score in there, and with three films above a 90%. Gunn's Suicide Squad is tied as the second-highest-scored DCEU film with Shazam! and just below Wonder Woman's 93%. The point of all this is that it seems pretty unlikely that Superman is bad, whether it clocks in with an 80%, 90% or more. Marketing is starting to spool up for the film, which releases July 11, and a video went viral this week of David Corenswet in costume talking and playing with children on set after filming with them, drawing many comments of 'this is the 'real' Superman' and such.
