CTV News11-07-2025
One person was airlifted with serious injuries and three others rushed to local hospitals after a vehicle rolled on Penetanguishene Road in Springwater Township on Thursday evening.
'We responded just shortly after 8 p.m. to a report of a single-vehicle rollover with occupants trapped. When crews arrived, they found the vehicle had left the road and rolled down an embankment into a tree,' Deputy Fire Chief Jeff French said. 'Of a total of four patients, three were trapped. The extrication took approximately 45 minutes to complete.'
Two women were taken to Georgian Bay General Hospital shortly after the crash occurred on Highway 93, south of Floss Road 7 East, and a male driver was rushed to Royal Victoria Regional Health Centre - all three with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
Another male passenger was initially taken to the Barrie hospital and later airlifted via air ambulance to a Toronto hospital with more serious injuries.
Highway 93 was closed from Robert Boulevard to Orr Lake Road in Hillsdale for several hours Thursday evening.
Highway 93 fully reopened in the early morning hours on Friday. Police say the investigation is ongoing and ask witnesses to the crash or anyone with video, including dash camera footage, to reach out to the authorities.

Valley Line West LRT road work moves to 149 Street/Stony Plain Road intersection

If you've driven in west Edmonton recently, you've seen the Valley Line West LRT construction from the ground. Here's what it looks like from above. A major west-end intersection was partially closed to traffic Friday, a day after another one east of it re-opened after several weeks, as crews advance work constructing Edmonton's new LRT line. Crews building the Valley Line West, which will run a 14-kilometre route between downtown and Lewis Estates, partially closed Stony Plain Road at 149 Street on Friday to work on transforming the intersection to accommodate the east-west LRT line. The city said in a Friday morning media release that the intersection will be partially closed for about nine weeks. On Thursday, the intersection of Stony Plain Road and 142 Street fully reopened to traffic after two months of partial closure. Brendon Unrau, superintendent of the project for Marigold, said shutting down intersections allows crews to complete the work in less time. 'Normally, when we build intersections, we have to do it in a lot of different phases -- the sequencing would work from corner to corner to corner -- but on this project, this year, the city's allowed us to shut down these major intersections so that we can work the whole thing through,' Unrau told media on Friday. 'It gives us a lot more space, and it lets us get the work done a lot quicker.' Brian Latte, the City of Edmonton's Valley Line West director, said the decision earlier this year to put an accelerated work plan into place has been successful, acknowledging the disruptions to daily lives but adding its for the short term. 'It's a significant inconvenience for a short period of time in place of a moderate or much higher inconvenience for a longer period of time,' Latte told media. Signs posted near the Stony Plain Road/149 Street intersection let drivers know of the road work they're approaching. Transit bus route No. 7 will follow a modified route during the latest intersection work, using 149 Street, Stony Plain Road, 142 Street and 107 Avenue. Construction of the line, which started three years ago, is slated to be finished by 2028, followed by testing.

Child pornography charges laid against B.C. high school teacher

Pitt Meadows Secondary School is seen in an image from the Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows School District website. A high school teacher from B.C.'s Lower Mainland has been charged with several sexual offences, including two related to child pornography. Online court records show Lovesh Ramsaha is facing counts of making or publishing child pornography, distributing child pornography, luring a child under the age of 18, and making sexually explicit material available to a child under the age of 18. The charges all stem from incidents dating back to Aug. 1, 2024, in Pitt Meadows, according to the records. Ramsaha was a teacher at Pitt Meadows Secondary School but was 'removed from his duties' immediately after administrators learned of the allegations against him, according to a letter that was sent to parents on Friday. 'I understand this news is circulating in the community,' wrote principal Colin Sharpe, in the letter. 'Please be assured that the safety and well-being of our students is always our highest priority. Within our school, we will continue to focus on caring for and supporting our students, staff, and families as we move forward together as a school community.' The Maple Ridge-Pitt Meadows School District said it could not comment on the allegations due to privacy legislation, and because the matter is now before the courts. Online records show Ramsaha is out on bail, with his next court appearance scheduled on Aug. 21. With files from CTV News Vancouver's Penny Daflos

Park benches fished out of Victoria Park in Kitchener

People looking for a spot to sit down at Kitchener's Victoria Park may have had a hard time thanks to some vandals. Images posted to social media showed several picnic tables submerged in the lake. The City of Kitchener has confirmed they learned about the issue Friday morning and workers were sent out to pull the tables out of the water. 'City parks are a beloved part of our community,' a statement from the city read. 'It's disappointing when these spaces aren't treated with the care they deserve. Though acts of vandalism of this scale are rare, they're always unacceptable. We remind all resident to respect shared spaces so everyone can enjoy them.'
