
Nigeria Customs strengthens relations with Access Bank
Following the successful deployment of its Unified Customs Management System (UCMS), codenamed B'odogwu, the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has intensified strategic engagements with key stakeholders to consolidate its gains and drive system-wide integration.
In a virtual meeting, the NCS engaged officials of Access Bank to align operational frameworks and deepen collaboration in support of trade facilitation and financial system integration.
Led by the Deputy Comptroller-General of Customs in charge of ICT and Modernisation, Kikelomo Adeola, the session also included the Service's National Public Relations Officer, Assistant Comptroller Abdullahi Maiwada, and Assistant Comptroller Bukola Omoniyi from the ICT/Modernisation Department.
The engagement focused on enhancing synergy between Customs and the financial sector, particularly in streamlining payment systems, boosting data exchange, and ensuring real-time processing of trade-related transactions through the B'odogwu platform.
During the meeting, DCG Adeola reaffirmed the Service's commitment to seamless stakeholder integration in the post-deployment consolidation phase.

'The deployment of B'odogwu marks a new era in Customs administration.
'Our next priority is to strengthen partnerships with financial institutions like Access Bank to fully unlock the platform's potential for automation, transparency, and trade efficiency,' she said.
She added that B'odogwu, developed as an indigenous solution, has already transformed Customs operations by unifying procedures, automating declarations, and enabling real-time transaction monitoring.
'To achieve optimal functionality, all players within the trade value chain must be fully integrated. This engagement with Access Bank is not just timely—it is strategic,' she noted.
In response, Olatunbosun Oladunke, Head of Global Trade at Access Bank, commended the NCS for its forward-thinking digital transformation and assured the Bank's support.
'The B'odogwu platform represents a major leap in digital trade processing. Access Bank is fully aligned with the NCS vision and is committed to ensuring system compatibility—particularly in trade finance and payment automation,' he said.
Additionally, Olakunle Aderinokun, Head of Media and Public Relations at Access Holdings/Access Bank, stressed the importance of stakeholder engagement and public awareness.
'Public buy-in is critical to the success of any reform. We will collaborate with the Service to drive awareness of B'odogwu and educate stakeholders on the value it brings to the trading ecosystem,' he stated.
The meeting forms part of the NCS's broader strategy to accelerate its trade modernisation agenda through strategic partnerships, transparency, and continuous innovation.
With B'odogwu now operational, the NCS is steadily advancing towards a fully digital, integrated, and globally compliant Customs system that supports Nigeria's economic aspirations.

‘Efforts underway to ease Jordan-Syria goods movement'
AMMAN — Jordan and Syria on Thursday explored measures to streamline the flow of goods and passengers across their shared border to revive trade and logistics cooperation. An economic delegation from Jordan, led by President of the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC) Khalil Al-Hajj Tawfiq, on Wednesday met in Damascus with Head of Syria's General Authority for Land and Maritime Ports Qutaiba Badawi. The meeting focused on eliminating logistical barriers, reducing transport costs and boosting cross-border commerce, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported. Discussions addressed practical steps to ease customs procedures, facilitate the movement of passengers, goods, tourists, and tour buses, and develop transit trade through both countries. The two sides also reviewed proposals to capitalise on the strategic location of Aqaba Port, simplify foreign company registration, regulate customs clearance fees, and ensure re-exported goods from Jordan's Zarqa Free Zone are "properly" certified with Jordanian certificates of origin. Hajj Tawfiq called for "sustained" coordination between the two countries on matters related to border management. He stressed the value of Jordan's experience in customs clearance, transport, logistics and free zone operations. "The Jordan Chamber of Commerce remains committed to building strong economic ties with Syria through partnership with the Federation of Syrian Chambers of Commerce," Hajj Tawfiq said, adding that the goal is to establish a "model" of regional economic integration. For his part, Badawi reaffirmed Syria's commitment to facilitating trade and transit with Jordan, calling it a 'strategic priority' for enhancing bilateral economic relations. He said that Syria seeks to upgrade its logistical infrastructure and transform its free zones into regional trade hubs connected to international transport networks. Badawi noted that the Syrian government is pursuing a clear strategy to revitalise the transport and logistics sectors, attract investment and stimulate economic activity. He highlighted "ongoing" rehabilitation efforts at land crossings, aimed at accelerating customs processes and lowering costs for traders on both sides. Nigeria: B'Odogwu facilitates $144mln revenue for PTML Customs in eight months
The Unified Customs Management System also known as B'Odogwu has facilitated N230billion revenue at the Ports and Terminal Multiservices Limited (PTML) Command since its commencement in October 2024. The Customs Area Controller (CAC), of the Command, Comptroller Tenny Daniyan, who disclosed this during a courtesy visit by the Shipping Correspondents Association of Nigeria (SCAN) described B'Odogwu as a Nigerian digital technology that has come to change the narrative in Customs operations. He acknowledged that the new technology was not without challenges, but noted that over 90 per cent of the challenges have been resolved. 'PTML being the pilot command of the platform, I will say that over 90 percent of the challenges that will be envisaged in other areas are been resolved here. So going to TINCAN and going to APAPA, they won't be any technical issue. Yes, they may have stakeholder issues. Either those that refuse to come into the platform or those are not bringing good declarations. This is because B'odogwu is a more robust and more secure platform with some AI features that can help you to do a proper classification of things. and has some features that is not in NICIS, ' he said. Comptroller Daniyan commended the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi for having the confidence to go ahead with the initiative, which he said has today become the pride of Nigeria and Nigerians. Daniyan said 'B'Odogwu is working and its working for us, we have realised over N230 billion so far on the platform. If its not working with you, it means you are not doing the right thing. 'Now, we can only say, 'Yes, this is our baby'. It's our baby because we don't need a third party to do anything for us. It is fully Nigerian, unlike the Nigeria Integrated Customs Information System (NICIS) when you have issues you will have to translate and then send to a foreign country before the problem can be solved. 'All this could not have happened without the must acknowledge that he is a man of vision. He is a man that wants to leave his footprints in the sands of time. He's a man that has a goal. Minimum income of $3,500 required to obtain Remote Work Visa in UAE
The United Arab Emirates offers a Remote Work Visa to foreigners working outside the country, allowing them to enter, reside, and work remotely for employers based abroad. This visa is valid for one year and is renewable, provided the holder complies with the terms and conditions. The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs, and Port Security (ICP) clarifies that this visa enables foreigners to reside in the UAE without a local sponsor. The ICP stated that the documents required include proof of remote employment with a company or entity outside the UAE, evidence of a monthly income of at least $3,500 (or equivalent in other currencies), a valid passport with a minimum validity of 6 months, a colored passport-sized photograph and a valid health insurance coverage within the UAE. Applicants can apply through the smart services system via the ICP's official website or the UAEICP mobile app. The visa permits entry into the UAE within 60 days of date of issuance. It can be applied for on line by these steps: Registering and logging in to the ICP's website or app, filling in the required details and upload necessary documents, paying the applicable fees, and evaluating the service and then the applicant will receive the visa via email. The fees of the total application fee are Dhs350, including: visa issuance fee (Dhs100), application fee (Dhs100), smart services fee (Dhs100) and ICP service fee (Dhs50).
