Power out at Clayton County courthouse, jail complex
The Clayton County Sheriff's Office says the power is currently out at the Clayton County Courthouse on Tara Boulevard.
As a result, court services are delayed until noon, according to the sheriff's office.
Channel 2′s Tom Jones was told the power was also out at the county jail and is working to learn more about the situation at the facility.

Driver pulls out knife on couple driving too slow in Kennesaw neighborhood, police say
Ten miles below the speed limit: that is what one driver told Kennesaw police drove him to pull a knife during a road rage incident in the Legacy Park community. David Buchanan about why 55-year-old Giancarlo Russo is accused of pulling a knife on his neighbors during a road rage incident. It happened in Kennesaw in the Legacy Park neighborhood. A husband and wife got to a stop sign to find the driver, Russo, behind them was outraged, when he blocked their car with his own. 'The offender pulled in front of them and blocked them, got out of his car, he was holding a knife and was threatening towards them,' Buchanan told Channel 2's Candace McCowan. 'He was trying to get the male driver out of the vehicle to instigate some type of altercation or fight. The victim stayed in the car, got away safely, and called us.' St. Augustine business owner indicted on charges of having child sexual abuse material
A St. Augustine business owner has been federally indicted on charges that he paid money to receive child sex abuse images online. Action News Jax was outside Dymeng Technology Solutions on Paseo Reyes Drive on May 8 when the business was raided. We confronted the owner, Jack Leach, to find out why federal investigators were there. He didn't tell us. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< Then, in a June 9 news release, the Department of Justice said investigators seized electronic devices from Leach's home and business that contained child sexual abuse material. The criminal complaint includes what prosecutors said are messages from Leach's phone, talking about children as young as three years old and traveling to the Philippines to abuse children there. Leach, 43, faces up to 20 years in federal prison if convicted. Alabama sheriff arrested for hiring uncertified officers, including one accused of violence
The sheriff of an Alabama county mired in allegations of abuse was arrested on Monday for hiring officers without state training or certification, according to an indictment. Walker County Sheriff Nick Smith, 41, was indicted on six misdemeanors in state court, accused of hiring one deputy, four armed school resource officers and one jailer who allegedly didn't have state certification or training, according to court documents made public on Monday. Both the deputy and some school resource officers were issued department patrol cars, badges and firearms, according to the indictment. Smith has come under scrutiny in recent years for the death of Tony Mitchell, a 33-year-old mentally ill man who died of sepsis and hypothermia after being held in the local jail in 2023. At least 14 law enforcement employees for Walker County have pled guilty or been indicted on federal charges related to Mitchell's death. Smith, who was first elected sheriff in 2018, has been named in a civil lawsuit filed by Mitchell's family. At least one of the officers mentioned in Smith's indictment previously had his certification suspended in Arizona after he admitted to putting a gun to a woman's head during a traffic stop, according to sworn testimony during a civil service board meeting last month. The deputy was hired in late June as a provisional officer, which meant he wasn't allowed to execute arrests or patrol alone until he completed his state training under state law. But the deputy made three arrests and investigated three deaths, according to civil service board testimony from a fellow officer in May. Waker County Sheriff's Department Chief Deputy Ralph Williams was also arrested on Monday for allegedly lying to the Alabama Peace Officers' Standards and Training Commission, saying the officer had been terminated last November. There were no attorneys listed for Smith or Williams on Monday afternoon. Telephone and email messages seeking comment were left with the Walker County Sheriff's Office.
