Galatasaray interested in Manchester City's Manuel Akanji, continuing Ederson talks

Manuel Akanji is the latest Manchester City player to attract interest from Galatasaray, who are continuing to discuss a deal for goalkeeper Ederson. The Turkish club were also interested in City's Ilkay Gundogan earlier in the summer, although the midfielder wants to remain at the Etihad Stadium. Akanji was an unused substitute in City's opening Premier League match – the 4-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers – as John Stones and Ruben Dias started ahead of him. He also faces competition for minutes from Abdukodir Khusanov and Nathan Ake, with Pep Guardiola saying after the weekend's game that it is 'not healthy' to have such a bloated squad. The Swiss centre-half joined from Borussia Dortmund in 2022 and has made 136 appearances in all competitions. He has two years remaining on his City contract. Advertisement As reported by The Athletic in the Transfer DealSheet on Tuesday, Galatasaray also want Ederson and negotiations are ongoing with City, but there has not been an official offer yet. Guardiola said on Friday that he wanted him to start the season as his No 1, but will not stand in the way of any player who wants to leave. (Visionhaus/Getty Images) Spot the pattern. Crystal Palace interested in signing Wolves forward Hwang Hee-chan

Crystal Palace are monitoring Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Hwang Hee-chan as the Eagles look to strengthen their attack before transfer deadline day (Ben Jacobs). Palace are weighing up a season-long loan move for the 29-year-old, who has endured a frustrating spell at Wolves. Selhurst Park can be an escape route for 'The Bull'. The Palace target initially joined Wolves from RB Leipzig on loan in 2021 before making the switch permanent a year later. After hitting 12 Premier League goals in 2023/24, injuries disrupted his progress last season, restricting Hwang to just two goals in 21 appearances. He started only five of those games, with the arrival of Jorgen Strand Larsen pushing him down the pecking order. With the 2026 World Cup on the horizon, Hwang wants regular football, which he could get under Palace manager Oliver Glasner. A loan to Selhurst Park would offer him more minutes. He managed just nine minutes in Wolves' defeat to Manchester City. Although there has been reported interest from France and the Championship, Hwang wants to remain in the Premier League, and Palace could be his next stomping ground. His pace and versatility across the forward line would be a valuable asset to Palace, who are short of attacking options. Eddie Nketiah's pre-season injury left Jean-Philippe Mateta as the only senior striker. Palace are also pursuing Leicester's Bilal El Khannouss and Club Brugge winger Christos Tzolis, but their business has been slow. So far, only Borna Sosa and Walter Benitez have arrived, both largely seen as depth signings. Palace lost respected transfer chief Dougie Freedman, who left for Saudi Arabia in March. That may explain the sluggishness of their window. However, Palace have found their replacement for Freedman. Former Wolves sporting director Matt Hobbs is in talks to join Palace after leaving the Molineux Stadium earlier this year. His arrival could prove pivotal in securing Hwang's signature and help ramp up transfer activity for the FA Cup and Community Shield winners.

Ex-Liverpool star says Arne Slot 'must address' issue caused by Trent Alexander-Arnold exit

Former Liverpool player Dietmar Hamann believes Liverpool felt the absence of Trent Alexander-Arnold during Friday's victory over Bournemouth. Alexander-Arnold departed Liverpool following the Reds' title win last season, joining Real Madrid for a small transfer fee ahead of the expiration of his contract on June 30. Liverpool replaced Alexander-Arnold with Jeremie Frimpong, and the Netherlands international made his Premier League debut against the Cherries. While Liverpool eventually ran out a 4-2 victor on the night, some aspects of the teams performance were not up to scratch, and the team generally struggled to exert control on the game. "If you look at the 90 minutes [against Bournemouth], I never felt Liverpool was in total control of the game," Hamann told talkSPORT. "Last season, it was something that Arne Slot was really good at. "If you don't control games without the ball, it makes it very hard to control it when you do get the ball. "Liverpool has been pretty fragile defensively in the two games so far, including against Palace and Kerkez has struggled in both games and Frimpong, for all his power and pace going forward, is not a right back. "This is something Liverpool must address because without Trent in the team, the dynamics have changed. "Last season, Liverpool tired teams out when it had the ball and in Trent had one of the best ball players in the Premier League. If he had a bit of space, teams would drop off because they were scared of his passing ability and it stretched the pitch. That gave the rest of the team a bit more space when they got on it. "Liverpool won't have that this season because Frimpong is a completely different player." Hamann's criticism of Liverpool's performance came after Jamie Carragher also questioned the team. "I've watched enough football in my life," Carragher said on Sky Sports. "This idea that everyone bombs forward, it's not for me. I don't like it. "There is definitely a problem that Arne Slot has to solve. People say 'they need a centre-back'. A centre-back doesn't fix that. He just takes Konate's place. "It's about the make-up of the team with two attacking full-backs and a number ten who more interested in getting on the ball than defending like Szoboszlai was last season. If Liverpool continue like that, I don't think they will win the league."
