Oklahoma Sooners earn commitment from ESPN 4-star 2026 defensive lineman
Carrington is an ESPN four-star prospect in the cycle and has a significant offer sheet from across the college football landscape. Just a couple of days ago, Carrington decommitted from Florida State, and the expectation was that he would commit to Oklahoma. Steve Wiltfong of Rivals issued a futurecast favoring the Oklahoma Sooners shortly after he decommitted from the Seminoles.
Carrington chose the Sooners over 25 Power Four offers, including nine SEC offers from schools like Alabama, Florida, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, Tennessee, South Carolina, Texas A&M, and Oklahoma. He's the No. 33 defensive line prospect in the nation and the No. 30 player in the state of California.
The Sooners currently have the No. 21 class in the 2026 recruiting cycle after this week's commitments. Defensive tackles coach Todd Bates and defensive ends coach Miguel Chavis have built a strong defensive line recruiting class with commitments from Brian Harris, Matthew Nelson, Daniel Norman, Jake Kreul, and now James Carrington. Carrington is the 17th player pledged to Oklahoma's 2026 recruiting class.

World No. 1 Jackson Koivun of Auburn was among the earlier selections, along with Virginia's Ben James, Ole Miss' Michael La Sasso, and Oklahoma State teammates Preston Stout and Ethan Fang. This will be Hagestad's fifth Walker Cup as he was on winning teams in 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023. Summy was coming off winning the Western Amateur while Modleski was a semifinalist at the Western and a quarterfinalist at Olympic. Morrison solidified his spot by making match play at the Western and U.S. amateurs. Howell earned an automatic spot with his 7-and-6 win over Jackson Herrington. Among those left off the team were high-schooler Miles Russell, who also made the quarters this week and would've been the youngest Walker Cupper ever at 16 years old, and mid-amateur Evan Beck, the reigning U.S. Mid-Amateur champion. The 50th Walker Cup, which pits a team U.S. amateurs against those from Great Britain and Ireland, will take place Sept. 6-7 at Cypress Point Club in Pebble Beach, California. The GB&I team will be finalized Monday.

One of the biggest sports personalities in the state has outlined his expectations for Michigan State football this year, with a simple question of whether or not they are unreasonable or not. Mike Valenti of 97.1 The Ticket in Detroit provided his expectations and goals for the Spartans this upcoming season, and wants the fans to weigh in on whether or not he's being reasonable. Here are the outlined expectations Valenti provided during a show earlier this week: Seems pretty reasonable to me -- the bigger question is whether or not the Spartans can get that done. Valenti is a Spartans alum and has been known for holding Michigan State to high standards. This list of expectations seems about right, in my opinion, and something I believe they can achieve this fall. In my preseason predictions, I have Michigan State going 7-5 with notable wins over Indiana and Michigan that would qualify as the significant victory Valenti is calling for. I also believe their offense will be "fun again" as he said during his show -- so for me, Michigan State nearly checks all of those boxes in my personal outlook for the season. Spartans invite Illinois 2027 ATH prospect that has offers from Miami (FL), Penn State
Michigan State football is reportedly showing interest in an athlete prospect from Illinois that holds a pair of notable power four offers. Josh Morgan of Oak Park, Ill. announced on Sunday that he has received an invitation to attend the Spartans' season-opener against Western Michigan on August 29. Morgan added in a social media post that he "can't wait to get back on campus" noting that he plans to either attend this opener or hopefully another game this upcoming season. Morgan is currently listed as an unranked 2027 athlete prospect on 247Sports. His social media X account states he plays wide receiver and defensive back, and is listed at 6-foot-2 and 190 pounds. He plays for Fenwick High. Michigan State has not yet extended an offer to Morgan, according to 247Sports. He does, however, hold offers from Miami (FL), Penn State and Western Michigan.
