His skiing career was long and very successful. Beginning in alpine skiing, he came third in the downhill race in Sierra Nevada, Spain, and received a World Cup podium in 1999.
Claiming yet another bronze at the 2005 World Championships, later he changed to freestyle and ski cross and finished first overall in the Ski Cross World Cup in 2007.
The Ski Federation described Groenvold's passing as a huge loss to both Alpine and freestyle skiing.

'I don't think they will compete against each other until the World event,' he added. Dr Ali Bajwa performed an interventional procedure on Nadeem's calf muscle at the Spire Hospital in Cambridge. Nadeem is now undergoing rehabilitation in London. As per Butt, Nadeem may compete in one event before the World Championships in Tokyo, if he gets clearance from the doctor. 'The World Championships are very important for Arshad (Nadeem) as he finished with a silver behind Neeraj (Chopra) in Budapest in 2023,' the coach said. It was a win on demand wherein Humpy dominated the next game. The Queen pawn opening was good enough wherein Humpy was in command right from the word go. Humpy won with her superior technique and also her absolute determination to turn the tide in her favour from any given position. In the third set of tie-break games Humpy drew white in the first game and crushed Lei in all departments of the game. Winning this game meant that just a draw was needed for her to get in to the final and in the return game Humpy was at her technical best as she won again out of an Italian opening. If there is one title that has eluded Humpy it's the World Cup and world championship. Apart that Humpy has won everything under the sun.
