My favourite 80s coming-of-age classic hits 4K Blu-ray for the first time ever – and with all the Dolby Atmos and Vision bells and whistles

We all know the No.1 hit theme song by John Parr, we all know Emilio Estevez and his fellow Brat Pack gang… and hopefully we all know the movie that followed hot on the heels of fellow Brat Pack coming-of-age classics Sixteen Candles and The Breakfast Club.
40 years to this very month after hitting theaters, St. Elmo's Fire has today been released on 4K Blu-ray for the first time, and has been given the Dolby Vision HDR and Dolby Atmos surround sound treatment.
Directed by Joe Schumacher, who went on to direct The Lost Boys and Batman Forever, and starring many of that gang – Emilio Estevez, Rob Lowe, Andrew McCarthy, Demi Moore, Judd Nelson, Ally Sheedy and Andie MacDowell – the teen flick follows a clique of recent college graduates as they adjust to the growing pains and responsibilities of adulthood, trying desperately to keep their friendship and youth intact by hanging out at their favourite watering hole, St. Elmo's Bar, while trying to launch their careers and establish themselves and their relationships.
It's a quintessential, all-in coming-of-age drama of its era and a very 'real' movie about self-absorbed college kids grappling with the post-university transition. Critics panned St Elmo's Fire for its unlikeable characters and petty melodrama – but that's bratty college kids for you, right?
What Schumacher did was play out a friends drama that, in my opinion, managed to incorporate all the new and relatable emotions of that uncertain and place-finding time in your life – the innocence, the love and the jealousy, the simultaneous feelings of freedom and restraint – through interesting (but sure, not largely likeable) characters, via the most magnetic and compatible bunch of young actors and actresses of that moment.
The cold-stone classic of the Brat Pack genre was well made and produced back then, shooting for mainstream appeal, but it was high time for it to get the 4K treatment.
The 4K Blu-ray, which has been released today in special 40th-anniversary format, features a 4K scan of the original 35mm film negative, and is bolstered with Dolby Vision (and HDR10) HDR, while the stereo audio has been Dolby Atmos-fied for those with Atmos soundbars or compatible speaker packages – because who wouldn't want to hear Rob Lowe's iconic saxophone scene in surround sound?
The disc also features commentary with Schumacher and a separate special featurette with him, the original 'making of', the theme song (Man in Motion) music video, and 12 deleted scenes. Consider me sold.

For the second time in less than a year, Jake Paul battered a long-past-his-prime boxing champion from yesteryear. On Saturday night, Paul defeated Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. via unanimous decision (99-91, 97-93, 98-92) in front of an underwhelmed crowd at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif. 'All the boos are words and action speak louder than words. So y'all can shut the f— up,' Paul said after Saturday's win, which improved his record to 12-1. 'It was flawless,' Paul said about his performance. 'I thought I did great going 10 rounds against a former world champion. He's in there with Canelo (Álvarez) and all these guys, and I embarrassed him like that.' Paul, 28, did not use his post-fight time on the mic to try and rekindle interest in a bout with Álvarez, but did call out a litany of present-day stars: Gilberto 'Zurdo' Ramirez, Anthony Joshua, Badou Jack and Gervonta Davis. 🤣🤣🤣😩😩😩 — Badou Jack (@BadouJack) June 29, 2025 Chavez spent the first half of Saturday's fight boxing like a man unaware he could also throw punches. He didn't land a single punch in the first round. The former WBC middleweight champion — who entered the night famous for sharing a name with his legendary father and for being cannon fodder for Álvarez in 2016— mustered up enough moments in the final rounds to bring the weary crowd to its feet. But overall, Chavez spent more time in the bout complaining to the ref about legal punches from Paul than Paul has spent boxing legitimate opponents in his career. 'Jake is a good boxer,' Chavez said after the loss, but later added, 'I don't think he's ready for the champions, but he's a good fighter.' Paul and Álvarez were rumored to have been nearing a bout agreement earlier this year before Álvarez pivoted to a four-fight deal with Riyadh Season in February. As part of that deal, Álvarez will battle undisputed champion Terence Crawford in a September megafight. Advertisement Paul and Davis were also reportedly in talks for an exhibition bout this fall, but those plans fell apart after Davis and Lamont Roach fought to a draw in March, prompting a rematch. 'Everyone wants me to fight the toughest person in the world right now, and that will happen in the next 24 to 36 months,' Paul said weeks ago. The Odyssey Teaser Trailer Release Date Possibly Set
A new report seems to suggest that a teaser trailer for Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated epic, , will be coming soon. Per a new report from World of Reel, a teaser trailer for the upcoming film narrated by Anne Hathaway is ready. The release for the trailer is reported to be set for sometime in July, along with screenings for Jurassic World Rebirth, which is set to release on July 2, 2025. The report goes on to say that the teaser trailer likely won't feature any real footage, in line with some of the early teasers for past Nolan films, like Oppenheimer. Northern California's High Sierra Music Festival faces uncertain future amid low ticket sales
A long-running music festival in Northern California may be on the verge of its final act. The High Sierra Music Festival in Quincy is hoping for a last-minute boost in ticket sales ahead of next week's event. It's part of a nationwide trend, with festivals across the country seeing a drop in attendance. But organizers say they've come up with a few ways to bring the crowds back. "The High Sierra Music Festival is a very unique and extraordinary experience," said Dave Margulies, High Sierra Festival producer. For nearly 30 years, Margulies has helped bring the High Sierra Music Festival to life in Plumas County. Known for its bluegrass and acoustic sets and long weekend of camping, the three-day event has been a summer tradition at the Plumas County Fairgrounds since 1995. "It's a big, giant community that gathers every year, it's kind of like a family reunion," Margulies said. This year's festival runs from July 3-6. But organizers say ticket sales are at an all-time low. "We're hoping people rally and we get a big, big surge," Margulies said. Pre-pandemic, the festival used to draw 6,500 people. In the years that followed, 4,500. But with less than a week to go, they're at around 2,500. "Ever since the pandemic, we've seen a downturn in sales and I think a lot of events have seen downturns as well," Margulies said. Recent data shows festivals across the country saw a decline in music festival ticket sales between 2023 and 2024. Experts blame rising costs for tickets. High Sierra is now forced to provide 15% discounted tickets leading up to the festival, all in hopes of continuing it next year. "The value is off the charts, it adds up to about $5-$6 per band," Margulies said. They hope next week's mid-80s in Quincy may also entice people to escape the valley heat.
