A Global Star at the Crossroads
While Sardaar Ji 3 finds itself embroiled in controversy over its India blackout and inclusion of Pakistani actors, Diljit Dosanjh is being honoured far from the noise—in the corridors of higher education. In a landmark move, Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) has announced that it will introduce a full-fledged course on the superstar's cultural and musical impact. The course, scheduled to launch in late 2026, will mark the first academic programme in Canada centred around a Punjabi artist. The announcement came just hours before Dosanjh's new film Sardaar Ji 3 was confirmed for an overseas-only release on June 27, with the trailer geo-blocked in India. The move has stirred massive outrage online, with netizens accusing the actor-producer of betraying national sentiment due to the film's casting of Pakistani actors like Hania Aamir, Nasir Chinyoti, and Daniel Khawar—especially in the wake of heightened India-Pakistan tensions after the Pahalgam terror attack in April. While Diljit fans in India expressed heartbreak and disappointment, Toronto was rolling out academic red carpets. The new course, to be hosted by TMU's The Creative School, aims to explore the 'intersection of culture, identity, and global music entrepreneurship,' according to Dr Charlie Wall-Andrews, assistant professor at the university. In a statement to Billboard Canada, Dr Wall-Andrews said, 'His rise illustrates the cultural influence and economic potential of Punjabi music on the world stage. Students will explore how regional sounds shape global pop culture, mobilise diasporic communities, and contribute to sustainable creative economies rooted in authenticity.'For Dosanjh's manager Sonali Singh, who serves as CEO of Ripple Effects, the announcement represents more than just academic recognition. 'His journey stands for cultural pride, creative freedom, and global representation for Punjabi and South Asian communities,' she told Billboard Canada. 'Seeing his impact formally recognised in an academic space is not only powerful; it's long overdue.'Mo Ghoneim, President of Billboard UK and Canada, also praised the move. 'He represents the very heart of this global movement, and we're excited to see his story enter the classroom,' he added. In the past year alone, Dosanjh has broken records and barriers. From his critically acclaimed performance in Amar Singh Chamkila to his show-stopping appearance at Coachella and his debut at the Met Gala 2025, the star has carved out a unique global identity. His recent Dil-Luminati tour sold out the largest Punjabi concert ever held outside India, cementing his status as an international cultural ambassador.Yet back home, the star is facing growing scepticism. Netizens took to social media to accuse him of neglecting Indian audiences after achieving global fame. Many also criticised the decision to geo-block the Sardaar Ji 3 trailer and questioned the inclusion of Pakistani actors during a period of heightened national sensitivity. The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) had earlier urged the CBFC to deny the film clearance, citing the participation of Pakistani actors as the reason. As fans and critics argue whether Sardaar Ji 3 is a betrayal or bold move, a Canadian classroom prepares to study Dosanjh's impact for generations to come—proof, perhaps, that while screens may flicker and trailers disappear, influence has a way of leaving a more lasting imprint.

'I'm not Canadian, man!': iShowSpeed hilariously fails at hockey in viral clip

iShowSpeed tries hockey, wipes out, and drops the most Canadian excuse ever iShowSpeed has tried a lot of things on livestream: soccer, boxing, even setting off fireworks inside his own room (seriously, don't ask). But this time, the chaos king of YouTube laced up for something new: hockey. And while he wasn't exactly NHL-ready, Speed actually held his own on the ice until he let out the now-iconic line that broke the internet. Speed laced up the skates and immediately blamed Canada for what happened next In a now-viral clip, Speed tries hockey and his reaction… 'I'm not Canadian, man!' 😅 — BR_OpenIce (@BR_OpenIce) And just like that, the internet got another classic Speed moment. No goals. No slapshots. Just chaos. And when he realizes hockey isn't going to be his thing, he throws up his hands and blurts: 'I'm not Canadian, man!' It's the most Speed reaction ever funny, dramatic, and low-key iconic. Even fans who've never touched a puck could relate. Fans are calling the clip 'peak Speed' and absolutely losing it online Twitter and IG reels ran wild with the moment, with fans dropping comments like: To be fair, hockey's no joke. Skating alone is a full-body workout. Then add a stick, a puck, and 10 people trying to knock you over? Yeah, not for everyone. Speed might've been clowning, but anyone who's ever stepped on a rink knows: the ice doesn't care who you are. And honestly, blaming Canada might be the most accurate response ever. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like 2025 Top Trending local enterprise accounting software [Click Here] Esseps Learn More Undo He's gone viral for goal celebrations, boxing mishaps, and everything in between but this hockey moment might be one of Speed's funniest fails yet. Ashoke Pandit calls Diljit Dosanjh

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], June 23 (ANI): Amid the ongoing backlash surrounding Diljit Dosanjh's 'Sardaar Ji 3', filmmaker Ashoke Pandit has come forward to share his views and said that 'we are appealing to our producer bodies that please don't cast him(Diljit Dosanjh)'. Diljit has found himself on the receiving end of a social media backlash after the trailer of his upcoming Punjabi film, 'Sardaar Ji 3', which features Pakistani actress Hania Aamir, dropped online. Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) has sent a letter to the Chairperson, Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), to 'withhold certification of the Film 'Sardaarji 3' containing Pakistani artists.' The controversy comes in the wake of the recent Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, followed by India's Operation Sindoor on May 7, in which air strikes were carried out on terror bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Pakistani artists, including Hania Aamir, had their social media accounts made no longer accessible in India following the ghastly Pahalgam attack. Since the 2019 Pulwama attack, which claimed the lives of 40 CRPF personnel, FWICE has consistently enforced a blanket ban on Pakistani artists, including actors, musicians, and technicians, within the Indian film industry. In a conversation with ANI, Pandit talked about the entire controversy surrounding Diljit and said, 'Federation of Western India Cine Employees had issued a notice of non-cooperation after the Pulwama attack. All the people will not participate with any Pakistani performer. Be it a producer, a director, a singer or a music director. No craft will involve them. If a technician works with them, it's not only actors or performers, even the technicians will be boycotted. We issued a notice of non-cooperation on the first day of the Pulwama attack. After that, we reiterated all the attacks, that our notice is still valid. We have not changed or withdrawn it. When the trailer of 'Sardaar Ji 3', was released, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees, which is the mother body of 36 crafts, immediately wrote a letter to CBFC and I & B Ministry, that this film should not get a census certificate, and it should not be released here.' 'Hopefully, CBFC will agree with us, ' he continued, 'Because I& B Ministry itself issued a notice, in which they said that if anyone participates with a Pakistani performer, we will not let his things come out. They will not get permission.' He called the singer-actor a 'compulsive, regular lawbreaker', who has always 'promoted Pakistani performers', saying, 'The matter is very serious because Diljit Dosanjh is a compulsive, regular lawbreaker, as far as our industry is concerned. He has always promoted Pakistani performers, Pakistani singers, Pakistani actors. He knows the reason. When the industry is appealing to him, and there is no need to appeal to the industry, when it comes to the nation, the integrity of the nation, the internal security of the nation, even then, this person makes the same mistake again and again.' 'The matter is very serious, because Diljit Dosanjh is a compulsive, regular lawbreaker, as far as our industry is concerned. He has always promoted Pakistani performers, Pakistani singers, Pakistani actors. He knows the reason. When the industry is appealing to him, and there is no need to appeal to the industry, when it comes to the nation, the integrity of the nation, the internal security of the nation, even then, this person makes the same mistake again and again. We will issue another notice, where we are appealing to our producer bodies, to all the members of the producer association, that please don't cast him, please don't work with him. And apart from this, all the event companies, we are writing to them, that in any of their events, don't let him participate, don't hire his services. It is very important to boycott him from this country...,' added the filmmaker. Meanwhile, sharing the trailer of the horror-comedy franchise on his Instagram on Monday, Diljit announced that the film will release exclusively overseas on June 27. Diljit captioned the trailer post, 'Sardaar Ji 3 releasing 27th June OVERSEAS only. FADH LAO BHOOND DIAN LATTAN.' The comments section of the actor's social media platform quickly turned into a storm of angry reactions, with Indian netizens expressing their disappointment over his decision to work with a Pakistani artist, amidst tensions between the two countries. The trailer of 'Sardaar Ji 3' is currently not on YouTube India but has been shared by Diljit on his Instagram page. (ANI)
