Reigning two-time champions Australia defeated the Philippines 84-60 and remain unbeaten in the competition since entering it for the first time in 2017.
The Boomers dominated from the start, sinking seven 3-pointers in the first quarter on the way to building a 29-12 lead. Jaylin Galloway led the early charge, while Jack McVeigh and Will Magnay contributed impressive performances on the offensive and defensive fronts.
'I'm just really proud of how we rebounded and defended,' said coach Adam Caporn. 'We just rallied on the defensive end and on the boards. I'm very happy.
Disappointed Philippines coach Tim Cone said: 'We really liked our time together. I like the way we play, I like the togetherness, they are all easy to coach, but I didn't like our performance tonight.'
Philippines center Justin Brownlee, whose 3-pointer forced overtime on Monday in the play-off victory over Saudi Arabia, was held in check this time by the Australian defense and finished with 10 points on 3-of-7 field goal shooting.
In the day's other quarter-final, Iran completed one of the most dramatic comebacks ever seen at Asia Cup, reversing a 21-point deficit to edge Chinese Taipei 78-75 at King Abdullah Sports City.
The turnaround was about more than simply advancing to the semi-finals for the Iranians, it was about reaffirming their status as genuine title contenders.
'At halftime, we had a long talk and we changed the approach,' said coach Sotirios Manolopoulos. 'We had to start from defense to play aggressively, possession by possession. We knew we will get our shots, and this time we will make our shots. For the second half, we played to our maximum.'
For Chinese Taipei, the defeat marked a heartbreaking end to the competition.
'We shot better but we still lost the game; this is basketball,' said coach Gianluca Tuccil.
Australia and Iran, both of whom are unbeaten in this year's competition, will face off on Saturday at King Abdullah Sports City for a spot in the final.
China will take on South Korea and then New Zealand face Lebanon in the remaining two quarter-finals, which take place on Thursday.

Australia beat China, 90-89, to complete ‘three-peat' bid in FIBA Asia Cup

JEDDAH: Australia took the FIBA Asia Cup basketball for the third time in a row after a dramatic 90-89 victory over China at the King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah on Sunday. The Boomers trailed all the way, with China leading by up to 15 points early in the game. Xavier Cooks pumped in 30 points and grabbed 9 rebounds, Jaylin Galloway contributed 23 points and 5 rebounds, and William Hickey added 15 points as the Boomers steadily narrowed down China's lead. With just 1:09 remaining in the last quarter, Hickey scored the basket that turned the tide. China had a chance to win but Hu Mingxuan's buzzer-beater attempt bounced off the rim. Hu led his team with 26 points. With the victory, Australia became the second team in Asia Cup history to achieve a 'three-peat'. The Boomers also extended their unbeaten run to 18 games since they joined the tournament in 2017. China was the first to win the title three times in a row in 2003 as it captured its 13th tournament title. All in all, China has won 16 Asia Cup championships. Aside from Hu Mingxuan, three of China's players scored double figures, with Hu Jinqiu pouring in 20 points and 10 grabbing rebounds, Cheng Shuaipeng making 12 and Zhao Rui adding 10 points. China's second place performance was, nonetheless, a remarkable comeback after a decade without a medal since it last won the Asia Cup title in 2015. Speaking to the press after the game, Australia head coach Adam Caporn said: 'The main thing is I am so proud of the character of our guys. We were down by 15, but we saw our players' toughness, their problem-solving attitude,' 'We have great people in the program, and in my opinion that's why we won,' he added In the battle for third place in Jeddah, Iran defeated New Zealand, 79-73. Prince Fahd bin Jalawi bin Abdulaziz bin Musaed, vice president of the Saudi Olympic and Paralympic Committee, crowned the Australian national team with the 31st edition of the 2025 Asian Basketball Cup, in the presence of Sheikh Saud Al Thani, president of the International Basketball Federation; K Govindaraj, FIBA Asia president; and Ghassan Tashkand, president of the Saudi Basketball Federation.

Al-Hilal tops Middle East football brands as Saudi clubs ride star power

JEDDAH: Saudi football club Al-Hilal has been ranked the Middle East's strongest brand, as the Kingdom's 'big four' teams gain international recognition on the back of high-profile signings, according to Brand Finance. The Riyadh-based club earned a Brand Strength Index score of 80.8 out of 100 and an AAA- rating, topping regional peers. Al-Ittihad scored 76.8, Al-Nassr 75.6, and Al-Ahli 72.7, the London-based consultancy said in its annual rankings. Domestically, all ten Saudi clubs studied outperformed their international ratings, with Al-Hilal achieving a home BSI of 92.1 compared with 57.9 abroad. Al-Nassr has been the standout internationally with a score of 69.5, helped by the global profile of Cristiano Ronaldo. Saudi Arabia has stepped up its football push with major overseas signings, record investment in the Saudi Pro League, and ambitions tied to its Vision 2030 diversification plan. The Kingdom is also preparing to host the 2034 FIFA World Cup, underscoring its bid to become a global hub for the sport. Andrew Campbell, managing director Middle East, Brand Finance, said: 'The Middle East's bold investment in football is beginning to yield tangible results on the global stage. Led by the Saudi Pro League, the region is rapidly expanding its commercial and sponsorship footprint while accelerating moves toward club privatisation.' He added: 'High-profile international signings continue to elevate global perceptions - not just of the league, but of the Gulf region as a rising force in world football. As the market matures, strategic investment and commercial discipline will be key drivers of sustained growth, with top club brands expected to strengthen in parallel.' UAE's Al-Ain led its domestic peers with a score of 69.9, ahead of Al-Wasl at 61.7 and Shabab Al-Ahli at 60.9. Globally, Real Madrid and Barcelona retained their positions as the most valuable and strongest football club brands, with values of $2.1 billion and $1.9 billion, respectively. Both clubs secured AAA+ strength ratings. The London-based firm pointed out that the Premier League is the world's most valuable sports league in terms of brand value, with its top ten brands' values totaling $9.1 billion – more than 37 percent of the total value of the world's top 50 most valuable clubs. The report noted that the Premier League's uniqueness lies in how brand value is distributed across multiple clubs. Six teams — Manchester City and Liverpool at $1.6 billion each, Manchester United at $1.4 billion, Arsenal at $1.3 billion, Chelsea at $1.1 billion, and Tottenham Hotspur at $890 million — each hold substantial brand value. 'The combined value of the world's top 50 football club brands has climbed to $24.5 billion in 2025. However, Brand Finance research reveals a growing imbalance across the game, as outside of the Premier League, brand value is increasingly concentrated among a handful of elite clubs in Europe's top leagues, said Hugo Hensley, head of sports services, Brand Finance. He noted that brand is no longer a byproduct of performance but a defining driver of success. 'As the sport becomes increasingly competitive both on the pitch and commercially, clubs and leagues must manage their brands strategically to ensure they aren't edged out of realising the benefits of a strong and valuable brand,' added Hensley.
