Officials clear large homeless encampment in Van Nuys near 405 Freeway
The operation is part of the Inside Safe Program led by Mayor Karen Bass. It's an effort that aims to help tackle the homeless crisis in Los Angeles, focusing on providing temporary housing and connecting residents with supportive services to transition them towards permanent housing.
The goal is to get people off the streets and keep them off the streets. Jennelle Irby was trying to someone inside the encampment but was denied entry.
"It just breaks my heart, actually. It really does. It really does. So many people are just taking advantage of other people," Irby said. "Honestly, from my experience, there's no good feeling when you're in there."
More than 75 people who live in the encampment have to make a decision if they will take a temporary motel room or have their belongings left behind destroyed.

Soulja Boy arrested on weapons charges in Los Angeles
Rapper Soulja Boy, who exploded onto the scene in 2007 with the smash hit "Crank That (Soulja Boy)," was arrested on weapons charges in Los Angeles early Sunday morning, according to authorities. The Los Angeles Police Department confirmed that the arrest of DeAndre Cortez Way, his birth name, took place at about 2:35 a.m. in the Melrose neighborhood of L.A. Officers conducted a traffic stop in the area of Melrose and North Genesee avenues and discovered that Way, a passenger in the vehicle, was in possession of a firearm. KTLA identified the one victim as Teodora Mendoza, 51. The outlet said the woman had severe face injuries and was taken to the hospital, but she was later pronounced dead. The identity of the second woman has not yet been released. It is not currently known if the two victims knew each other. Speaking with the Times, San Bernardino Police Sgt. Chris Gray said of the animals involved, "It appears they may have been stray dogs." "It was a bit of a chaotic scene at first, because there were multiple dogs out there," he added. According to KTLA, one Pitbull was shot dead after it charged at a police officer when they arrived at the scene. The incident occurred near a homeless encampment, and San Bernardino Animal Control later responded to the scene and removed 14 dogs, per KTLA and the Times. Mendoza's son, Alex Lozano, told the Times his mother had been homeless for more than a year at the time of the death. He added that she often visited Perris Hill Park with a male companion. 'My grandpa from Texas called and said that my mom was attacked by Pit bulls. That's how I found out,' Lozano, 21, said. He added that he and his mother had not spoken for some time. DUI arrest after fiery crash on I-15 injures several
SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — An overturned Jeep engulfed in flames brought traffic to a stand-still following a DUI collision in Escondido Saturday night. The fiery accident occurred on the northbound Interstate 15 on-ramp to eastbound State Route 78 at around 6:26 p.m., according to California Highway Patrol (CHP). Suspect at large after woman jogging sexually battered in East County According to CHP, the driver of an SUV was driving recklessly going more than 100 miles per hour. After reportedly veering across the area between the roadway and the SR-78 on-ramp, the SUV struck a Jeep, causing it to roll over and burst into flames. Two people were removed from the Jeep by a good samaritan and taken to the hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the SUV and a child passenger were also transported for minor injuries, with a police officer accompanying the driver.
