Sonius promoted to Briar Cliff head women's basketball coach
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) – Briar Cliff athletics has announced the promotion of Connor Sonius to head women's basketball coach.
'I am excited to announce the promotion of Connor Sonius to Head Coach,' Tim Jager, Executive Director of Charger Athletics said. 'Connor has done an outstanding job in all aspects of the women's program while serving as our full-time assistant. I look forward to continued success on and off the court under Connor's leadership.'
'I would like to thank our Athletic Director, Tim Jager, and our President, Dr. Matthew Draud, for giving me this amazing opportunity to lead the women's basketball program,' Sonius said. 'We have a great group of returning and incoming players and I am excited for the opportunity to get to coach them. Briar Cliff is a special place to coach women's basketball and I can't wait for our awesome fans to pack the Newman Flanagan Center.'
Sonius has been working with Briar Cliff women's basketball for the past 3 seasons. During his time as an assistant coach for the Chargers, Sonius has helped lead the team to an 80-24 overall record and three straight NAIA National Tournament appearances.

(KCAU) – Dakota Valley's Addicyn Sailer finished in a tie for fifth place at the SDHSAA Class A Girls Golf State Tournament, scoring 24-over-par while teammate Katie Betsworth logged a score of 30-over-par to end in a tie for ninth place at Madison Golf and Country Club. The Vermillion duo of Georgia Johnson and Ronnie Wilharm both finished 32-over-par, tying for 12th place. Sailor Kommes of Elk Point-Jefferson finished in 40th place. J.D. Scholten announces U.S. Senate bid
SIOUX CITY, Iowa (KCAU) — An Iowa state representative from Sioux City just announced his run for U.S. Senate. Representative J.D. Scholten made the announcement on social media. Watch Scholten's full announcement here In the video posted Monday, Scholten said he 'couldn't just sit on the sidelines' after Senator Joni Ernst's recent town hall. Scholten, a Democrat, has represented Iowa's 1st House district since 2023 and is currently a pitcher for the Sioux City Explorers.
