2026 Ram HD Review, Pricing, and Specs

Car and Driver4 days ago

Overview
While trucks like the 2026 Ram HD are made to perform herculean feats of strength, they aren't afraid to class things up a bit too, offering interior features, materials, and tech rivaling those of a premium sedan. Two powertrains are on offer: A 405-hp 6.4-liter Hemi V-8 gasoline engine is standard, but hardcore users will want to spec the 430-hp Cummins inline-six diesel for its 1075 pound-feet of torque and its 36,610-pound max tow rating. Both offer an eight-speed automatic transmission and two- or four-wheel drive, save for the Power Wagon and Rebel which get 4WD standard. Finally, three cab sizes—regular, crew, and Mega—make finding the perfect fit for your family or crew easy.
What's New for 2026?
Refreshed for 2025, the 2026 Ram HD 2500 and 3500 trucks are expected to carry over with no significant changes.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The price of the 2026 Ram HD is expected to start around $48,000 and go up to $83,000 depending on the trim and options.

Most serious users are willing to pay up for the diesel, but the standard 405-hp 6.4-liter gas engine is plenty capable, even in the 3500. For the best mix of capability, space, luxury, and price, we would stick with the most popular model, the 2500 4x4 Crew Cab Laramie. Although more are sold with the Cummins, stick with the gas V-8, which is quicker around town, unless towing huge trailers is a high priority for you. With the dollars saved, spring for the limited-slip differential and load-leveling air suspension, which further improves the Ram's already impressive ride quality.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
Standard power in all models comes from a 405-hp 6.4-liter V-8, which makes 429 pound-feet of torque. This is the only engine and transmission offered in the Power Wagon, which is exclusively four-wheel drive. However, every other model is also offered with a 6.7-liter Cummins diesel inline-six with either rear- or four-wheel drive. The diesel is available in both 2500 and 3500 models and makes 430 horsepower and 1075 pound-feet of torque. Both the gas and diesel engines are paired with an eight-speed automatic. When we drove the updated Ram HD pickups, we found the updated Cummins diesel engine to be responsive and refined; although it's still noisier than the V-8, it's no longer a raucous beast.
0–60-MPH Times
Depending on powertrain configuration, we estimate the Ram HD pickups will get to 60 mph in between 6.7 and 8.1 seconds.

Towing and Payload
The maximum towing capacity of the 2025 Ram 3500 is 36,610 pounds, but such a number requires the diesel engine. The Ram 3500 also has a maximum payload capacity of 7590 pounds, but unlocking that capability requires sticking with the standard gas engine. The 2500 model is rated to tow up to 20,000 pounds with the diesel engine, and its max payload is 4420 pounds when equipped with the gas engine.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
Fuel economy is not estimated by the EPA on commercial vehicles such as the Ram 2500 and 3500 because their Gross Vehicle Weight Ratings (GVWR) exceed 8500 pounds. We haven't yet tested the Ram's updated Cummins engine on our real-world 75-mph highway fuel-economy test, but we'll update this section when we do.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
As with most pickups, the Ram's extensive number of trim levels and cab styles means its interior materials, passenger space, and in-cabin tech features can vary widely in terms of quantity and quality. A single cab, a spacious four-door Crew Cab, and the massive Mega Cab (which offers the largest rear seat in the class) are available. Although heavy-duty trucks from Ford, Chevy, and GMC are also large and luxurious inside, the Ram has the best interior in the segment with luxury-car-level detailing, extreme comfort, and a clean, modern design, while the highest trim levels offer premium materials. The top Longhorn trim even gets striped wood and gold trim on the dash, doors, and gauges, along with the Longhorn logo hand-branded into the wood on the truck's upper glovebox door. The cabin's design also features easy-to-use controls and a ton of interior cubby storage. Its multilevel center console can accommodate a laptop with a 15.0-inch screen. Every Ram HD also comes with standard acoustic glass and active noise cancellation tied into the audio system, and the result is a truck that's luxury-car quiet inside—even the diesel models.

Infotainment and Connectivity
Ram packs its heavy-duty trucks with in-cabin tech, including the latest in infotainment, that rivals some big-buck luxury sedans and SUVs. The Ram's system is intuitive, with simple menus and prompts. It also responds quickly to user inputs, and its 8.4-inch touchscreen is large and well-placed. Ram also offers a larger 12.0-inch touchscreen and an even bigger 14.5-inch one, both of which give the truck's interior a high-tech look and feel. A separate 10.3-inch passenger display is also available. The infotainment system features navigation, a subscription-based Wi-Fi hotspot, and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. For your devices, the truck's interior features five USB ports and up to three 115-volt outlets, which can handle up to 400 watts to run or charge tools quickly.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Both the Ram 2500 and 3500 can be equipped with a long list of driver-assistance technology. For more information about the Ram's crash-test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) websites. Key safety features include:
Standard forward-collision warning and automated emergency braking
Standard adaptive cruise control
Available blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert
Warranty and Maintenance Coverage
Ram provides its two heavy-duty models with a competitive limited warranty. While both its powertrain coverages span five years, gas-fed engines get 60,000 miles of protection while the diesel offers 100,000 miles—similar to what's offered by the Ram's HD rivals. Unlike Chevy and GMC, however, the Ram has no complimentary scheduled maintenance.
Limited warranty covers three years or 36,000 miles
Powertrain warranty covers five years or 60,000 miles
No complimentary scheduled maintenance

Thousands of car enthusiasts attend 4th annual Downtown Arlington Classic Car Show

Thousands of car lovers turned out Saturday for the Downtown Arlington Classic Car Show. It featured hundreds of classic cars and trucks fully restored and maintained. More than 220 classic cars from the 1920s to the 1970s filled the streets. Classic car owners from North Texas and from all over the Southwestern United States revved their engines for the 4th annual show. One owner, Phil Reinsch, shared his passion for the classic car event. "It just seemed like a great way to support the culture, grow it here in town, let people see these old machines and kind of reminisce about the good old days," Reinsch said. Reinsch showed off his bright red 1965 Sunbeam Tiger. "That was one of the primary colors that came with another thing about this car," Reinsch said. "It was on a TV show called Get Smart back in the 70s and 60s, and they drove a red one. They made a lot of them in red. Mike Ames won the show last year and owns 17 classic cars. His son and grandson have picked up the hobby of hunting for unusual cars and restoring them. "I'm very active in a lot of the clubs," Ames said. "I do a lot of writing for magazines and so forth, and I've just been in the hobby for many, many years, and I know a lot of people. It's kind of like a fraternity, almost." Ames displayed his rare 1954 Buick Skylark. "They only built 836 of them with very low production," Ames said. "It was the only year they built this body style and design. This was considered a Buick sports car. It's a V8, has an automatic transmission." The show also included a live DJ, music, and food trucks. Money from the event will go back into the Downtown Arlington Community. Arlington Mayor Jim Ross took in the show and judged the Mayor's Choice Award. "We love the classic car show because it brings people together from everywhere," Ross said. "This is what Arlington is all about. We like people to come out, get to know your neighbors, have some great food, enjoy some great music, see some incredibly cool cars, and have a wonderful time." Organizers plan on making next year's show even bigger and better.

Soak Up the Sun With These Wallet-Friendly Convertibles

There's something about a convertible that just feels like summer. Maybe it's the open sky, the warm breeze, or that sense of freedom that only comes when the top is down and the road stretches ahead. Whatever the reason, if you've been dreaming about owning one, now's a great time to start looking. While some convertibles come with six-figure price tags, there are still plenty of models that offer open-air fun without draining your savings. Whether you're into classic styling, modern tech, off-road adventure, or pure driving joy, there's a convertible out there that fits the bill. Why We Chose These Cars We looked for convertibles that balance three key qualities: affordability, reliability, and driving enjoyment. Some are brand-new models with updated tech and safety features. Others are slightly older, pre-owned picks that have held their value and still offer a lot of fun for the money. All pricing and specifications were sourced from trusted sites like Car and Driver, Edmunds, Kelley Blue Book, Cars & Bids, and official manufacturer websites. A few discontinued models made the cut because they're still widely available and worth considering if you're open to shopping used. From sporty roadsters to rugged roofless SUVs, this list offers a variety of drop-top experiences for every kind of driver. Ask just about any car enthusiast to name the best affordable convertible, and chances are they'll say 'Miata.' And for good reason. The 2025 Mazda MX-5 Miata stays true to what has made it a favorite for decades: lightweight design, balanced handling, and pure driving enjoyment. Mazda reports that the 2025 model keeps its 181-horsepower 2.0-liter engine, with your choice of a six-speed manual or automatic transmission. It's not just fun—it's efficient, too, with a combined 29 miles per gallon. Thanks to its near-perfect 50/50 weight distribution, the Miata carves through corners with confidence, making even an ordinary drive feel like something special. If you like the idea of owning something collectible, Car and Driver shares that Mazda is releasing a 35th Anniversary Edition in a deep Artisan Red with tan Nappa leather seats. Only 300 are coming to the U.S., so it's a rare find. Whether you're a longtime fan or just looking to add some fun to your weekends, the Miata is proof that joy doesn't have to be expensive. If you're after a convertible with charm, personality, and a bit of British flair, the 2025 Mini Cooper Convertible delivers. It's compact, stylish, and built to make everyday drives feel a little more playful. Mini offers a variety of ways to customize your car, from bold paint colors to interior trim and tech features. No matter how you configure it, you still get that signature Mini look and the famously fun 'go-kart' handling that makes it such a joy to drive around town or through winding roads. The base model includes a 161-horsepower engine paired with an automatic transmission. It's zippy without being overwhelming, making it a great option for drivers who want something sporty but approachable. For those who want something a little different without straying too far from comfort and quality, the Mini Cooper Convertible offers just the right mix of fun and refinement. If you want American muscle with your open-air experience, the Camaro is a great choice. Car and Driver reports that the 2024 model offers a choice of a 335-hp 3.6-liter V-6 or a 455-hp 6.2-liter V-8. You can also choose between a 6-speed manual or a 10-speed automatic transmission. For drivers looking for a little more pep in their step, CoPilot found that the ZL1 trim is a beast with 650 supercharged horsepower. In addition, if you need serious track performance, check out the 1LE package. The Fiat 124 Spider is a stylish roadster that combines Italian design with Japanese engineering. The popular car marketplace, Carwow, states that the car features a 1.4-liter turbocharged engine with 160 hp and gets 29 mpg combined. Unfortunately, according to Fiat, the 124 Spider was discontinued in 2020. However, you can still find many used models on online car marketplaces. For another car that is no longer in production but still a fun ride, the 2019 Beetle Convertible is a modern take on a classic. It's got that iconic shape and a fun, retro vibe. Edmunds reports that the 2019 model features a 174-hp 2.0-liter engine and a 6-speed automatic, getting 29 mpg combined. Giving a loving tribute, Car and Driver states that the Beetle's history in America starts in the 1950s and took off in the 60s when it was featured in the popular Disney movie The Love Bug. Still, to this day, it remains one of the most recognizable cars in history. For the adventurous, the Jeep Wrangler is the ultimate go-anywhere convertible. You can take off both the roof and the doors for a truly open-air experience. Jeep states the 2025 model offers a choice of engines, including a 285-hp 3.6-liter V-6 that gets up to 19 mpg combined. Jeep's roots are deep in American history, with one of the first models being used in World War II, where it served as a military vehicle. Now, the Wrangler comes in tons of configurations, including two-door and four-door versions. The Ford Bronco is another rugged option, directly competing with the Wrangler. It also has a removable roof and doors, with retro styling. Car and Driver reports that the 2025 Bronco offers many engine options, with the standard being a 300-hp turbocharged four-cylinder that gets a combined 18 mpg. There's even a Bronco Raptor trim with a 418-hp engine for serious off-roading. Unfortunately, you need deep pockets to get your hands on one, as this over-the-top Bronco will run you about $92,000, putting it well outside the affordable category. The Ford Mustang is a classic American muscle car that goes back all the way to the 1960s. Moving into the 21st century, The Mustang Convertible offers several engine options from the base 315-hp 2.3-liter inline-four EcoBoost to the iconic 480-hp 5.0-liter V8, and buyers also get to choose between a 10-speed automatic and a 6-speed manual transmission. The average mpg ranges from 17 to 25, depending on your engine configuration. Maybe that roaring V8 is worth a few extra bucks at the pump?! Further on our list is the 987 Porsche Boxster, which is a fun little roadster featuring top-of-the-line handling and an exciting top-down driving experience. This particular model of Boxster ran from 2004 to 2012. The car auction website Cars & Bids shows pre-owned models ranging from $11,100 to $55,000. Porsche Club of America states that the 987 Porsche Boxster was offered a couple of different engine options, from the base 2.7-liter to a 3.2-liter flat-6. It's also available with several transmission options, ranging from a 5 or 6-speed manual or a 7-speed automatic. If you're looking for something stylish and refined, the Audi A5 Cabriolet delivers a quiet, confident kind of luxury. It's not flashy, but it turns heads for all the right reasons—with clean lines, tasteful chrome accents, and that unmistakable Audi grille. Available with Audi's Quattro all-wheel drive, the A5 Cabriolet gives you a sense of security and traction that many convertibles can't match, especially if you live somewhere with unpredictable weather. Most models from this era come with a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, offering a smooth ride and plenty of power for highway cruising. Inside, you'll find a comfortable and thoughtfully designed cabin. Even the earlier models feel upscale, with features like leather upholstery, dual-zone climate control, and a surprisingly quiet ride when the top is up. For under $20,000 on the used market, the A5 Cabriolet is a strong option for drivers who want an open-air experience without giving up comfort or refinement. It's a convertible you can enjoy daily, and still feel good about when you pull up to dinner on a Friday night. The BMW 2 Series Convertible is what happens when German engineering meets top-down driving fun. Compact and athletic, the 2018 230i strikes a great balance between sporty performance and everyday comfort, making it a standout in the used convertible market. Under the hood, you'll find a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that delivers 248 horsepower to the rear wheels. That means sharp handling, smooth acceleration, and a driving feel that's unmistakably BMW. You can choose between an eight-speed automatic or a six-speed manual, depending on how involved you want to be behind the wheel. The interior is classic BMW—clean design, quality materials, and just enough tech to make life easy without feeling cluttered. It's also surprisingly comfortable for a small car, with supportive seats and a well-insulated soft top that keeps things quiet when it's up. For drivers who want a convertible that feels refined but still has a bit of edge, the 230i is a strong contender. With used prices falling around $16,500 to start, it's a great way to enjoy premium quality without stepping into luxury-car price territory. If you're looking for a convertible car that's fun to drive, reliable, and affordable to keep running, the Toyota MR2 Spyder is your next car. This sporty convertible was in production from 1999 to 2007, but disappeared from the American market in 2005. According to Kelley Blue Book, the Toyota MR2 Spyder came standard with a 1.8-liter inline-4 engine and a 5-speed manual transmission. No matter your style — sporty, rugged, nostalgic, or refined — there's a convertible out there that can turn your everyday drives into something memorable. The best part? You don't need to empty your savings to get one. Whether you're eyeing a modern Miata, a throwback Beetle, or even a used Porsche that still has plenty of punch, the options are surprisingly accessible. And if you're leaning toward something a little less traditional, like a Jeep or Bronco with the top off and the trail ahead, that counts too. So if you've been waiting for a sign to start your top-down summer adventures, consider this it. Take your time, do your homework, and test drive a few. The right convertible isn't just about looks or speed. It's about how it makes you feel every time you turn the key (or press the button) and roll out into the sunshine. Happy driving, and don't forget the sunscreen.

5 Used Luxury Trucks That Are a Good Investment for Retirees

Pickup trucks are popular with all age groups, including seniors. Everyone loves the versatility, comfort and dependability a truck provides, but entering a new phase of life deserves a hauler with an extra bit of luxury. However, luxury comes at a price, and many retirees are on a fixed budget. Pickups take a beating, but they're durable, and while you can easily find a great truck from 2013 to 2014 for under $15,000, there are many newer, high-end used trucks that are good investments for retirees. Read Next: Check Out: Unlike some car companies that build only premium models, many luxury trucks are produced by popular brands who zhuzh up their trims and costs. Here are five great sophisticated trucks that you can count on to last. Calling it 'the most luxurious truck ever built,' TopSpeed praised the Ram 1500's smooth on-road handling and its powerful off-road capabilities. More importantly, a 2020 model has an average used price of $33,924, making it a luxury truck many retirees can afford. Be Aware: The Toyota RAV4 dethroned the Ford F-150 as America's bestselling vehicle in 2024. However, the F-Series still rules truck sales, so there are lots of used F-150s available for retirees to choose from. A consistent class leader, the 2022 regular cab will run you anywhere from $29,081 to $37,727, per Kelley Blue Book, but you should be able to score a more luxurious higher-trim 3-year-old F-150 for the same reasonable price if you look hard enough. Toyota isn't known for its trucks, but the brand has been actively selling pickups in the U.S. since the 1970s. The midsize Tacoma and full-size Tundra are both good options for retirees who are primarily looking for a reliable ride. Regarding the latter, the TRD Pro Crew Cab four-wheel-drive Tundra has every bell and whistle and is tailor-made for adventure and comfort. Because they're so durable, you'll probably pay an average of $40,888 for a 2019 model, per J.D. Power. You should be able to buy a 5-year-old Titan with all available upgrades for an average price of $34,858, per TopSpeed. This includes sought-after trims like the XD or Pro-4X. What you'll get in performance is a 5.6-liter V-8 engine and nine-speed automatic transmission dishing out 400 horsepower, 413 pound-feet of torque, and a towing capacity of 9,660 pounds. If you want a simple base Crew or King Cab, Kelley Blue Book puts the price range slightly to significantly lower. Honda's Ridgeline offers the best qualities of a pickup in a package that drives more like an SUV. It's a great investment for seniors who don't anticipate any off-roading or towing in their leisure years. According to Ike Honda, earlier models from 2009 to 2012 have a good reputation of reliability. Models from 2018 and later also are valid options. The 2021 model won a Car and Driver Editor's Choice award and is an excellent alternative to traditional pickup trucks. Car and Driver puts the MSRP between $37,715 and $45,145.
