Goa Inc supports need for transport aggregators in state

Panaji:
Backing govt's Goa transport aggregator guidelines, Goa's industry bodies stated that app-based taxi services will improve workforce mobility and create an investor-friendly environment in Goa.
The Goa Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Verna Industrial Estate, Travel and Tourism Association of Goa (TTAG), Assocham, and other industry representatives mentioned that thousands of workers and professionals employed in the state require 'dependable transport' for their daily commute.
'Across sectors—be it tourism, manufacturing, real estate, retail, logistics, or services—businesses in Goa are increasingly dependent on a workforce that requires dependable and safe transport options,' said GCCI president Shrinivas Dempo.
The Verna Industries Association noted that the lack of app-based taxi services has posed challenges in terms of accessibility, especially for shift workers, women employees, and those travelling from Goa's hinterland.
The industry bodies expressed that the transport department's guidelines strike a well-considered balance between enabling digital transport innovation and protecting the livelihoods of local taxi drivers.
The transport department's guidelines require the aggregators to pay drivers the full govt-notified fare, mandating timely payments while also offering health insurance and vehicle subsidies.
'We urge govt to implement the guidelines in a time-bound manner and call upon all stakeholders to participate constructively in building a mobility ecosystem that meets the growing needs of Goa's industrial sector,' said Kalpak Arware, president of Verna Industries Association.
Dempo stated that the introduction of taxi services will reduce the reliance on private vehicles, decongest roads, and lower pollution. Assocham Goa Council president Manguirish Pai Raiker urged the taxi operators to collaborate with govt and build a transport ecosystem.

HMDA plans new round of land auction at Neopolis in Kokapet

Hyderabad: After almost two years, the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) is gearing up for land auctions at Neopolis in Kokapet. Along with this, it has identified plots that can be sold. Earlier, the previous BRS govt had auctioned about 95 acres at Neopolis in two phases – June 2021 and Aug 2023. The state govt has already decided to go for land auctions across the state as part of resource mobilisation to fund various projects. Since there is a slump in the real estate sector, agencies such as HMDA and Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TGIIC) have been waiting for the right time. The HMDA also wants funds for its various projects, including two elevated corridors – Paradise to Shamirpet and Paradise to Dairy Farm Road (Medchal) – and a greenfield radial road in Future City. "Of the 20 big land parcels at Neopolis, five are still available. If the state govt permits, we will go ahead with the auctions," HMDA metropolitan commissioner Sarfaraz Ahmad told TOI. In the earlier auctions, HMDA got about Rs 40 crore to Rs 100 crore per acre, and this time, the authority may fix Rs 40 to Rs 50 crore per acre as the upset price. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Yaşlılar İçin Kurulum Gerektirmeyen Mobil Merdiven Asansörleri (Nasıl Bulunur Rehberi) Knowledge Knower Undo From Neopolis, the HMDA earned Rs 2,000 crore and Rs 3,300 crore in the two phases. Budvel land auctions fetched the govt another Rs 3,625 crore in 2023. HMDA officials said there are about 2,414 plots available in 18 HMDA layouts, including ongoing layouts. While four major land parcels are available in Budvel, there are 41 open plots in Uppal Bhagat, 12 in Turkayamjal and 327 in Inmulnarva village in Rangareddy district. There are various layouts, including projects that were taken up under land pooling schemes, which have open plots that would be auctioned in the future, officials said. For instance, Lemoor, Thorrur, Kurmalguda, Bachupally, Medipally, Mokila, Pratapa Singaram, Bahadurpally and Pedda Kanjarala have 2,029 plots that are developed or under development. Sources said the govt will first go for land auctions in high demand areas in western part of the city, such as Kokapet, and continue if there is a good response.

Will address staff crunch in Mapusa municipality: Rane

Panaji: Acknowledging the staff crunch faced by various municipalities in the state, town and country planning minister Vishwajit Rane on Friday said that the directorate of municipal administration has been asked to assess the shortage and create fresh posts. Rane, who was speaking at the inaugural of the renovated Mapusa Municipal Council building, said that the creation of a common cadre for municipalities, which has been pending for over five years, will help address the inefficiencies at the municipal level. 'We will work towards increasing the municipality staff. I told the DMA that what we need is an assessment first,' said Rane. 'There is a requirement for a common cadre. The current staff strength is based on the earlier time when there were nine councillors. Now the councillors have increased, and that is why staff has to be increased. We need to make our municipalities independent.' Mapusa MLA Joshua De Souza informed Rane that a shortage of staff was delaying key works that the Mapusa Municipal Council has taken up. 'I received a proposal for the market complex, and it will be my endeavour to place this proposal at the next GSUDA meeting. The expenditure for this project I will discuss with the CM and find the money. Mapusa needs a town planning scheme,' said Rane. Rane said that he will ensure that sanction is accorded for key projects proposed for Mapusa. He also said that the ICU at the North Goa district hospital will be fully utilised. Shashank Narvekar, the councillor for Mapusa's ward no. 5, skipped the inaugural citing illegalities. He said that the building lacks the required NOCs from the health department, the electricity department, and the PWD and thus also lacks an occupancy certificate. 'It appears that the commercial complex of Mapusa Municipal Council is incomplete, illegally constructed, and wrongly planned,' said Narvekar. Goa fish production peaks in 2023, number slips through net in 2024

Margao: Goa's fish production peaked at 140.3 tonnes in 2022-23, marking the highest output in eight years, before dropping to 135.7 tonnes in 2023-24. The latest data released by the Union ministry of statistics and programme implementation in the 'EnviStats India 2025: Environment Statistics' report shows that the fishing sector weathered significant challenges over the past decade. From 111.9 tonnes in 2015-16, fish production showed steady growth, peaking at 124 tonnes in 2017-18. However, the industry faced challenges in the subsequent years, declining to 120 tonnes in 2018-19. The worst time for this sector came during 2019-20, when production plummeted to 105 tonnes, the lowest point in the data series, representing a 15.3% drop. The downturn continued into 2020-21, though production recovered to 111 tonnes. The recovery gained momentum in 2021-22 with production reaching 116.2 tonnes, followed by a significant surge to 140.3 tonnes in 2022-23, representing a 21% increase and the highest production levels since data collection began. The decline to 135.7 tonnes in 2023-24, industry watchers said, is a cause for concern, but recovery is definitely possible. The consistent performance above 135 tonnes in recent years showed resilience in the sector, they said.
