
Lenzing H1 revenue at $1.56 bn; tariff policy slows recovery momentum
Lenzing Group reported H1 2025 revenue of €1.34 billion (~$1.56 billion) and EBITDA growth of 63.3 per cent to €268.6 million (~$312.3 million), aided by its performance program. Despite Q2 challenges from global tariffs and high costs, Lenzing improved earnings and secured long-term financing. The company expects further cost savings and higher EBITDA in 2025.
The Lenzing Group generated revenue of €1.34 billion (~$1.56 billion) in the first half of 2025, which was higher than in the same period of the previous year. The operating earnings trend benefited significantly from the positive effects of the performance program. EBITDA grew by 63.3 percent to €268.6 million (~$312.3 million), which included positive exceptional effects from the sale of surplus EU emission allowances amounting to EUR 30.6 mn and the valuation of biological assets amounting to EUR 12.5 mn. The EBITDA margin rose from 12.5 percent to 20 percent. Earnings before interest and tax (EBIT) amounted to EUR 109 mn (compared with EUR 18.9 mn in the same period of the previous year), which corresponds to an EBIT margin of 8.1 percent (compared with 1.4 percent in the same period of the previous year). Earnings before tax (EBT) amounted to EUR 22.1 mn (compared with minus EUR 22.3 mn in the same period of the previous year). Earnings after tax improved significantly to EUR 15.2 mn (compared with minus EUR 65.4 mn in the same period of the previous year).

The Lenzing Group's performance program is comprehensively geared towards strengthening long-term crisis resilience and enhancing agility in the face of market changes. The aim is to sustainably improve EBITDA and generate free cash flow through increased profitability and consistent cost excellence. Measures such as acquiring new customers for key products and expanding into smaller markets were implemented in order to strengthen sales activities and thereby revenue growth. At the same time, Lenzing is implementing measures to significantly improve its cost structure, which are being reviewed and further developed on an ongoing basis. Over EUR 130 mn in cost savings were already achieved in 2024. Progress was made especially in terms of product costs and product quality. The Managing Board also expects further efficiency gains in the coming quarters, especially in production costs and overhead functions. The ongoing improvements in structures, processes and personnel expenses are expected to lead to an increase in both revenue and margins. The Managing Board anticipates cost savings of in excess of EUR 180 mn in the current financial year.
Lenzing has also successfully strengthened its capital structure over the course of the year to date. A syndicated loan of EUR 545 mn was concluded in May. The structure of the loan comprises a EUR 355 mn term loan with a three-year term and a revolving line of credit of EUR 190 mn, also with a three-year term and extension options totaling two years. In addition, a new EUR 500 mn three-year non-callable hybrid bond was successfully placed on the market. With these measures, Lenzing secures its financing until 2027 and can continue to focus fully on implementing its successful performance program to enhance margins and free cash flow as well as to improve the cost position.
Cash flow from financing activities amounted to EUR 150.1 mn (compared with EUR 239.6 mn in the same period of the previous year). The reduction is partly due to a higher level of working capital. Free cash flow was also positive at EUR 43.1 mn (compared with EUR 141.8 mn in the same period of the previous year). Unlevered free cash flow amounted to EUR 89.4 mn (compared with EUR 180.4 mn in the same period of the previous year).
Liquid assets (including liquid bills of exchange) increased by 66.9 percent compared with December 31, 2024, to a level of EUR 754.0 mn as of June 30, 2025, mainly due to the syndicated loan that was agreed in May.
Lenzing also announced personnel changes on its Managing Board during the first half of the year. At the end of March, Walter Bickel relinquished his operational tasks by mutual agreement. Georg Kasperkovitz was appointed as a member of the Managing Board and as Chief Operations Officer (COO) of Lenzing AG with effect from June 1, 2025. As COO, Georg Kasperkovitz took over the management of the company-wide fiber production sites, including the site in Lenzing (Austria). He will also advance the ongoing performance program and, as a consequence, operational cost excellence and the transformation of the company as a whole.
Outlook
For 2025, the IMF forecasts global growth of three percent, followed by 3.1 percent in 2026 – marking a slowdown compared to the previous year (2024: 3.3 percent). The projection remains below the pre-pandemic historical average. At the same time, the IMF warns of persistently high risks to the global economy: a renewed escalation of trade conflicts, geopolitical tensions, or tighter financing conditions could dampen growth and reignite inflationary pressures.
In an environment characterized by uncertainty and a persistently high cost of living, consumers are anticipated to remain cautious. This is exerting a lasting negative impact on their propensity to spend. Given the announced tariff increases, the rise in spending on apparel in the USA in the first half of the year is to be regarded as a temporary, one-off effect and is unlikely to continue over the course of the remainder of the year.
The currency environment is expected to remain volatile in regions relevant to Lenzing.
In the global bellwether market for cotton, market analysts' current forecasts anticipate a slight increase in stocks to around 16.3 mn tons for the coming 2025/26 harvest season.
Lenzing will continue to consistently implement its performance program and will conduct ongoing evaluations in order to leverage further cost potentials and further improve its revenue and margin generation.
At present, the Lenzing Group confirms its guidance for the 2025 financial year of year-on-year higher EBITDA.
The ongoing tariffs conflict and associated uncertainty are negatively affecting market expectations and are continuing to exert a very restrictive effect on earnings visibility.

Trump Tariff brings down Tata Motors Q1 FY26 net profit by 30 pc to Rs 3,924 crore
Mumbai, Aug 9 (UNI) Tata Motors has officially announced that it has posted a 30 per cent decline in its Q1 FY26 net profit of Rs 3,924 crore from the Rs 5,643 crore net profit reported in the same period last year. Tata Motors stated that its performance was impacted by decline in profitability primarily from its Jaguar Land Rover business, besides volume decline in all businesses. The company stated that US President Donald Trump's tariff impacted revenues from Jaguar Land Rover which declined by more than 9 per cent to £6.6 billion (UK pound sterling). Significantly, the United States is Jaguar Land Rover's most important export market, accounting for nearly a quarter of its sales. Operating profit from Jaguar Land Rover slipped by 49 per cent to 351 million pounds or Rs 4,130 crore in Q1FY26. Revenue at Jaguar Land Rover, which was acquired by Tata Motors in June 2008, also decreased by 10 per cent to 6.6 billion pounds or Rs 77,662 crore after it had to stop exports to the United States for nearly a month in April in response to tariffs imposed by US President Trump and phased out older Jaguar models primarily made in the United Kingdom (UK). However, despite the fall in revenue, Jaguar Land Rover has kept its guidance range for FY26 unchanged at 5 to 7 per cent. "Welcomed signing of UK-US trade deal to reduce tariffs on UK-produced vehicles exported to the US from 27.5 per cent to 10 per cent, effective from June 30, 2025. EU-US trade deal announced on July 27, 2025 will, in due course, reduce tariffs on Jaguar Land Rover's European Union-made vehicles exported to the US from 27.5 per cent to 15 per cent," the company stated. The revenue of Tata Motors from operations dropped by 2.5 per cent year-on-year to Rs 1.04 lakh crore in Q1 FY26, from Rs 1.07 lakh crore in Q1 FY25, while EBITDA declined 36 per cent year-on-year to Rs 9,700 crore. The company's commercial vehicle revenues declined by 4.7 per cent to Rs 17,000 crore, while EBITDA margins improved to 12.2 per cent, due to better realisations and cost savings despite lower volumes. 'India will not bow to threats': Former VP Naidu vows to protect strategic and national interests; slams selective US tariffs
NEW DELHI: Former vice-president M Venkaiah Naidu on Saturday said that India will not compromise on its strategic or national interests and will continue to protect its energy security despite external pressures. Speaking at the valedictory session of the MS Swaminathan Centenary International Conference, Naidu stated, 'We will remain to safeguard energy security and we will stand firm on our strategic and national interest. Naidu underlined that India is self-reliant while remaining committed to global cooperation guided by the principle of 'share and care.' His remarks came after US President raised tariffs on Indian goods from 25 per cent to 50 per cent, calling India a 'dead economy', a remark Naidu dismissed, citing India's strong growth. He noted that India is growing fast and gaining worldwide recognition while some countries are envious of nation's growth. "They are not able to digest our growth. They are suffering from indigestion problem," the former vice-president said. He highlighted that India has moved up from fourth to third place in the global economic rankings and expressed confidence that with contributions from farmers, researchers and youth, the country will "definitely reach further heights". Naidu cited India as "sovereign and vibrant democracy" growing at 6.5–7 per cent annually and contributing 18 per cent to global GDP growth, higher than the US' share of 11 per cent. Why poor nations got hit with higher tariffs than rich ones
President Trump's tariffs barrage has landed the heaviest blow on the very nations that global trade was supposed to help: poor countries. For decades, the U.S. and other rich countries have granted special trading privileges to many poor countries, cutting tariffs and boosting market access to lend emerging countries a helping hand. That hasn't been Trump's approach. While his administration placed tariffs of 10% to 15% on imports from many of the world's wealthiest countries, such as South Korea, Japan and European Union member states, it slapped goods from developing countries such as Vietnam, Bangladesh, South Africa and Iraq with duties of 20% or higher. Two of Asia's poorest countries, Myanmar and Laos, were hit with tariffs of 40%, a potential death knell for their U.S. exports, which include goods such as furniture and garments. On Wednesday, Trump said he would raise tariffs on India to 50%, as Washington and New Delhi scuffled over India's continued imports of Russian oil. In a new era of gloves-off trade negotiations, these poorer countries had the least leverage with a country the size of the U.S. Low wages have turned some of them, such as Bangladesh and Vietnam, into manufacturing powers, but their citizens can't afford expensive American products, meaning they often run the sort of large trade surpluses with the U.S. that have drawn Trump's ire. Moreover, the president has demanded that trading partners invest in the U.S., but few developing countries have the financial firepower to match the hundreds of billions of dollars that Japan, South Korea and the EU have pledged to sink into the American economy. Some countries that carry geopolitical or economic weight with the U.S. were spared the worst of the tariffs. The U.S. didn't levy tariffs higher than the baseline 10% on Saudi Arabia, Qatar or the United Arab Emirates—oil and gas producers whose leaders are close to Trump. 'It's left developing countries with very high tariffs," said Deborah Elms, head of trade policy at the Hinrich Foundation, an Asia-based think tank. 'It's a significant change especially for treatment of least developed countries." Until 2020, many poor countries, such as Cambodia and Bangladesh, benefited from a special arrangement known as the Generalized System of Preferences that eliminated trade duties on products from more than 100 of the world's poorest countries and territories. The arrangement hasn't been renewed. Now poor countries' access to the U.S. has diminished further. Take Cambodia. The small country, a large garment exporter to the U.S., was hit with 19% tariffs, causing widespread worry in the country's clothing industry. 'We are a poor country. Our purchasing power is not the same as a rich country," said Sun Chanthol, Cambodia's deputy prime minister who led the tariff talks with the U.S., in an interview. Cambodia has slashed its own tariffs on U.S. imports to zero. Its national airline has promised to buy 10 planes from Boeing, with an option to buy 10 more—a modest proposition compared with financial pledges of rich countries such as Japan, which agreed to buy 100 jets from the U.S. aerospace company. Although the 19% tariff Cambodia ended up with was slightly better than that of some other developing countries, the government had been pushing for a lower rate. 'I was hoping to at least get 15% like Korea or Japan," Sun Chanthol said. Now, companies are worried about the fallout of higher tariffs on their exports to a market as crucial as the U.S. Bernhard Wewengkang, an executive at PT Great Giant Pineapple, one of the world's largest canned pineapple exporters, based on the island of Sumatra in Indonesia, expects demand will soften in the U.S., the company's largest market, given the 19% tariff on Indonesian exports to the American market. He is hoping to offload more canned pineapple into other markets—but so is everybody else in the industry. Great Giant Pineapple's margins are too small to lower its prices, meaning U.S. importers will face higher costs that they may pass along by raising prices for shoppers. Wewengkang worries that will hit canned pineapple sales and hurt the company's revenue. 'It's a lot," he said of the tariffs. Economists and trade officials are often left scratching their heads about why certain countries have dodged the bullet while others get slammed. Algeria and Libya face tariffs of 30% on their exports to the U.S., while Iraq's goods will be charged a duty of 35%. Among the highest tariffs was the 41% levy placed on goods from Syria. Having lived under punishing sanctions for years, the country exports very little to the U.S. Its tariff rate is higher even than the 39% tariff on Switzerland, one of the rare rich countries to get hit hard. In some cases, such as with Vietnam, developing countries have come under scrutiny from the White House because of their close trade and diplomatic ties with China. Other times Trump has expressed anger about their domestic politics. Trump placed 50% tariffs on certain Brazilian products, such as coffee. In justifying the levies, he cited legal action against former right-wing President Jair Bolsonaro and against U.S. tech firms. Last week, the White House confirmed that South Africa would be hit with 30% tariffs, despite monthslong efforts by South African officials to reduce them. In May, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa met with Trump at the White House to try to salvage a deteriorating relationship with the U.S. over issues ranging from race relations to Israel and trade. But the Oval Office visit devolved into a tense exchange over perceived threats to white farmers in South Africa. South Africa's exports are mostly platinum and cars. But senior South African officials say many exports—particularly the country's citrus fruit—don't pose a threat to American producers because they are counterseasonal, meaning they fill gaps in the U.S. market rather than replacing domestic products. Hundreds of thousands of cartons of citrus have already been packed and are awaiting shipment to the U.S. in the coming weeks, the Citrus Growers' Association of Southern Africa said in a statement.
