2,00,001-acre boundary stone to mark temple lands under purview of HR&CE department installed
CHENNAI
A boundary stone to mark the 2,00,001 acres of land belonging to temples under the purview of the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department in various parts of Tamil Nadu, was symbolically installed on Wednesday near Sriperumbudur.
Ministers T.M. Anbarasan and P. K. Sekarbabu jointly placed the stone on the land belonging to Sri Valleeswarar temple in the presence of officials, including Kancheepuram Collector Kalaiselvi Mohan, an official press release here said.
The project to mark lands belonging to temples was inaugurated at Kapaleeswarar temple on September 8, 2012. All the stones have the text HRCE engraved on them.
A total of 40 tahsildars and 172 licenced surveyors using 36 DGPS rovers have been identifying and marking the lands. The 1,00,001-acre stone was kept on January 25, 2023 at Tiruvallur on the land belonging to Sri Bhavani Amman temple at Periyapalayam, the release said.

149 folk artists from five districts get welfare aid
Madurai: Welfare assistance worth 9.2 lakh was distributed to 149 folk artists from five southern districts — Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Sivagangai, and Ramanathapuram — at a function held at the Madurai district collectorate on Tuesday. The event was organised by the Tamil Nadu department of art and culture. Chairman of Tamil Nadu Iyal Isai Nataka Mandram and actor Vaagai Chandrasekhar distributed the aid and interacted with the artists. He noted that while state funding was inadequate in the past, the association recently received 1 crore from chief minister M K Stalin's govt. "We currently have 58,000 members. While identifying beneficiaries remains a challenge, we've recommended methods to the govt to streamline the process," he said. Vaagai also added that the association requested the Hindu religious and charitable endowments (HR&CE) department to employ traditional artists, such as nadaswaram players, for temple rituals to support their livelihoods. According to a release from the Madurai district administration, 109 artists from Madurai, 20 from Dindigul, nine from Ramanathapuram, seven from Theni, and four from Sivaganga received assistance under the scheme.

Murugan meet: Nainar slams min
Madurai: BJP state president Nainar Nagenthran on Tuesday hit out at HR & CE minister P K Sekarbabu, saying his comment that action would be taken if any untoward incidents happen during the upcoming Murugan conference in Madurai, is highly disappointing and reflects his own mindset. "Sekarbabu is a devotional person but it is disappointing to see him make such comments suggesting untoward incidents may happen during the conference. It raises suspicion as to who really wants to create divisive incidents. Why does the minister harbour such bad thoughts," asked Nagenthran while addressing reporters. He met party cadres in Tirunelveli, Virudhunagar and Madurai on Tuesday, and also took part in a consultative meeting at Melur for the Murugan conference on June 22. Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath and Andhra Pradesh deputy chief minister Pawan Kalyan are among those likely to take part in the conference. On the Anna University sexual assault case, the BJP leader said, "We welcome the court decision. But, the question of 'Who is that sir' remains. This case was rushed and finished in 154 days when there are sexual assault cases pending in courts for years. Reality is that law and order in Tamil Nadu is out of the control of chief minister M K Stalin," he said.
