Woman flown to hospital after lion attack at Australian zoo
Emergency services were called to the Darling Downs Zoo, 110 km southwest of Brisbane, around 8.30 am on Sunday following reports that a woman in her 50s had been attacked by an animal.
The woman, an employee of the zoo, suffered a significant arm injury and was airlifted to a Brisbane hospital in a stable condition.
The Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported that the animal involved in the incident was a lion and that the woman lost an arm.
The zoo said in a statement posted on social media on Sunday afternoon that the woman was watching zookeepers working in the carnivore precinct when the animal grabbed her by the arm.
It said that at no stage did the animal leave its enclosure, and there was no risk to the public.
The zoo said that the animal involved would not be put down or punished in any way.
"Police and Workplace Health and Safety personnel are investigating this incident and have been onsite all morning. The zoo is working with them to establish how this incident occurred," it said.
The Darling Downs Zoo, which celebrated its 20th anniversary in June, houses tigers, leopards, and lions. - Bernama-XInhua

The Section provides for up to two years' jail and a fine of RM25,000 per individual animal part. Wiki committed the offence at a rubber plantation along the Sematan/Telok Melano road in Lundu at about 6.27pm on Aug 14, 2025. According to the facts of the case, a team comprising Sarawak Forestry Corporation and Marine Police Force personnel acted on intelligence reports and detained the accused on suspicion of illegally possessing turtle eggs. A search of a black plastic bag uncovered 93 marine turtle eggs for which the accused failed to produce any valid permission or licence from the Controller of Wild Life. It was established that the turtle eggs were from the Cheloniidae family, classified as a Totally Protected Animal under Part I of the First Schedule of the Wild Life Protection Ordinance. Bukit Aman: Three Held, Drugs Worth RM4.16 Million Seized
MELAKA, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- Police have busted a drug trafficking syndicate using a luxury condominium as a storage facility, seizing various types of drugs, including ganja weighing about 94.84 kilogrammes (kg), with an estimated street value of RM4.16 million, in a series of raids across the Klang Valley and Melaka on Aug 13. Bukit Aman Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) director Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said the operations, conducted from 4.15 pm to 6.10 pm, also resulted in the arrest of three men, including a Pakistani national, aged 25 to 46. 'In the first raid at a condominium compound in Bukit Jalil, Kuala Lumpur, police arrested a local man and a Pakistani national. Upon searching the suspects and their vehicle, authorities found 26.73kg of ganja. 'Subsequent searches of a unit of the same condominium uncovered a drug storage facility containing various types of drugs, including ganja buds, ketamine, and syabu,' he said at a press conference at the Melaka contingent police headquarters (IPK) today. During a second raid, Hussein said the third suspect, a local man, was arrested in Ayer Molek, Melaka. A search of his car discovered heroin base drugs weighing approximately 18.25kg, along with various other drugs. 'Overall, the seized drugs included ganja (94.84kg), ganja buds (2.58kg), ketamine (42.23kg), syabu (143g), Eramin 5 pills (810g), and heroin base (18.25kg). 'In addition to the drugs, police seized a Toyota Estima valued at approximately RM70,000 and two other vehicles - a Perodua Myvi and another Toyota Estima - bringing the total value of seized drugs and assets to RM4.233 million,' he said. Hussein added that intelligence indicated the syndicate had been active since last April, and the total amount of drugs seized could supply up to 2.815 million addicts. Meanwhile, he said one of the three suspects tested positive for Tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), while two of them had previous records related to crime and drugs.
