Ashadhi Ekadashi Musical By Swarmala Marks Start Of Devotional Events

Nagpur: The city is set to witness a vibrant series of devotional and cultural programmes in the run-up to Ashadhi Ekadashi on July 6. The festivities commenced on July 3 with a special Marathi devotional musical event titled 'Viththalachya Paayi' held at Vishnuji Ki Rasoi, Bajaj Nagar.
Jointly organised by Swarmala and Vishnuji Ki Rasoi, the musical evening featured performances of soulful abhangs and devotional songs dedicated to Lord Viththal. The highlight of the event was the performance by Deepak Kulkarni, assistant director (programme) at South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC), Nagpur, who also holds additional charge as deputy director at the centre.
Veteran singer Gunwant Ghatwai, Manjiri Vaidya Iyer, Rajesh Khinchi, and Anand Fadnavis joined as co-singers, presenting a rich repertoire of Marathi devotional classics.
The musical arrangements were done by Govind Gadhikar and Moreshwar Dahasahastra, with accompaniment by Shrikant Pise on harmonium and Vikram Joshi on tabla.
Continuing the fervour, the cultural affairs epartment of the govt of Maharashtra and the directorate of cultural affairs will host 'Paaule Chalati Pandharichi Vaat' on Friday at 6.30pm at Suresh Bhat Auditorium. Conceptualised by cultural affairs minister Ashish Shelar and coordinated by MLA Pravin Datke, the event will feature renowned singers Aniruddha Joshi, Shamika Bhide, Bhushan Jadhav, Niketa Joshi, and Chandrakant Shinde.
Musical arrangements will be led by Parimal Joshi, with Asavari Galande-Deshpande as the compere.
On July 6, a devotional musical programme featuring singer Amar Kulkarni and his troupe is scheduled at Tatya Tope Hall, further adding to the city's Ashadhi Ekadashi celebrations.
In another highlight, a grand Warkari Dindi will be held on July 5 bringing the spiritual spirit of Pandharpur to Nagpur. Approximately 1,500 school students will join the procession to commemorate Ashadhi Ekadashi.
Organised jointly by the secondary education department, Nagpur Zilla Parishad, Nutan Bharat Vidyalaya and Junior College, and Marathi Gyan Sanvardhan Pratishthan, the initiative aims to introduce students to Maharashtra's rich Warkari tradition. The procession will begin at 9am from Swatantryaveer Savarkar Chowk, Shankar Nagar, with students donning traditional Warkari attire and carrying images and scriptures of revered saints.
The Dindi will conclude at the Dnyaneshwar Temple in Bajaj Nagar, followed by the distribution of mahaprasad and mementos at Nutan Bharat Vidyalaya.

Agency: PTI Last Updated: Thane, Aug 18 (PTI) Veteran Marathi singer Leelatai Shelar passed away on Monday evening at her home in Thane city due to old age-related ailments, her family members said. She was 94 and unmarried. Leelatai Shelar is survived by her brother and his family. The nonagenarian singer's last rites took place late at night at the Jawahar Bagh crematorium in Thane city with local residents, music enthusiasts and disciples paying their last respects to her. Fondly known as 'Guru Leelatai Shelar", she dedicated her life to music and nurtured generations of singers in Thane. Her singing classes were regarded as a gateway for common citizens to learn the art with ease. Leelatai Shelar began her musical studies under maestro Bhaskarrao Phatak and later trained for 22 years under Pandit Achyut Abhyankar, a senior disciple of Pandit Firoz Dastur of the Kirana Gharana. She later honed her skills in Bhavgeet and Bhaktigeet under guru Ram Mete, and with his inspiration, in 1960 founded Kalayatan — an institution that became Thane's second temple of art after Gadkari Rangayatan. Apart from training, Leelatai Shelar actively performed in concerts. Recognizing her immense contribution to music and singing, the Thane Municipal Corporation honoured her with the Thane Gaurav Award. She also has the distinction of being the first to sing lyricist P Savalaram's iconic song, 'Ganga Jamuna Kachaan Vedhi Ka", later immortalized by legendary Lata Mangeshkar. A chef in Japan has taken his love for Maharashtrian food further by opening a Saoji cuisine "bhojnalaya" in Fukuoka. In a video going viral on Instagram, content creator Sonam Midha visits the Midori Store, run by Japanese chef Takashi-san. Saoji is a fiery and flavourful cuisine from Nagpur, Maharashtra. It is originally cooked by the Saoji community, known for their bold spice blends and robust meat dishes. Chef Takashi-san has recreated his own version of Nagpur in Japan through his passion for Saoji food. He even learnt Marathi to keep it authentic, with the entire bhojnalaya designed with a traditional Indian touch - from the food to the menu written in Marathi. Sharing his love for India, he added, "Everyone I met was incredibly warm and generous, and I truly fell in love with India. Thanks to the people of Nagpur, many wonderful things have happened to me. Since I'm running a business inspired by Indian culture, I want to share its authentic flavours and spirit to Japan with deep respect and gratitude." At Midori Store in Ohashi, the chef serves dishes like Shahi Murgi, Dal, and Pao - all with the signature Saoji heat. Once a week, he also cooks Parsi food. The eatery offers vegetarian dishes too, along with rabri faluda for dessert.

She also revealed why her son is living apart from her and how she feels living life all alone. The Pavitra Rishta actress revealed her son loves non-veg food made by her although he lives in his Uncle's house. 'Mere bete ko non-veg bahut achha lagta hai. Lekin beta mere saath rehta nahi. Bhai ke ghar pe rehta hai Borivali mein.' When asked why her son lives there and not with her. She explained, 'Wo alag rehta tha shaadi hone ke baad. To mera bhai Borivali me rehta tha unka 2BHK tha. Abhi wo re-develop hoke 3BHK ho gaya, usko (her son) chhoti baby hai, toh bhai ne bola tu idhar aa. Chhota bachha sabko achha lagta hai to wo udhar hai bachhi ko leke.' Usha Nadkarni reveals living all alone since 1987 The Celebrity Masterchef fame also revealed her daily routine and addiction to social media. She said, 'Akeli rehti hun. Savere uthke naasta banati hun, khana pakati hun, nahane ke baad bhagwaan ki puja karti hun. Baad me khana khaya let'ti hun, aur facebook (she laughs) dekhti hun.' When the actress was quizzed how did she feel living a loner life. She was quick to respond, 'Nahi. Aadat ho gayi.' Usha further highlighted that she has been living all alone since 1987 as she was always working. The veteran actress underlined feeling unsafe in the initial days. 'Pehle ye building me akele rahene aayi main to bahut darti thi raat ko late aati toh. Watchman ko bolti thi Dada me saath upar aao na. Abhi aadat ho gayi. Abhi nahi darti,' concluded Usha Nadkarni.
