Texans reportedly trading WR John Metchie to Eagles ahead of season-opener

The Philadelphia Eagles are adding another wide receiver for Jalen Hurts to work with ahead of the season. The Eagles struck a deal to land Houston Texans wide receiver John Metchie on Sunday afternoon, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. It's unclear what the Texans will receive in return. Metchie is entering his third season in the league this fall. The 25-year-old, who the Texans took with the No. 44 overall pick in 2022 out of Alabama, had a career-high 254 yards and a touchdown on 24 catches last season in Houston. This post will be updated with more information shortly.

Alabama's Jam Miller expected to miss season opener vs. FSU with upper-body injury

Alabama starting tailback Jam Miller is out indefinitely after suffering an upper-body injury in Saturday's scrimmage. Miller's exact injury was not specified by Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer, who said in a statement Sunday that Miller had a 'procedure' the night before. 'Jam should recover fully with a timetable for his return yet to be determined,' DeBoer said. Advertisement Miller, a senior, was preseason third-team All-SEC after being Alabama's second-leading rusher last season with 668 yards and seven touchdowns. Then-quarterback Jalen Milroe was Alabama's leading rusher. At minimum, Miller appears out for No. 8 Alabama's season opener at unranked Florida State. But he could be facing an extended absence, putting his availability in peril for the Sept. 13 home game against unranked Wisconsin and the Sept. 27 trip to No. 5 Georgia. Miller could be a big loss for the Crimson Tide for however long he's out. He split time last season with Justice Haynes, who then transferred to Michigan, so Miller was expected to have a much bigger role. (He also had 16 catches for 155 yards last year.) Otherwise, Alabama doesn't have a lot of SEC experience in the backfield. But there is potential in redshirt sophomore Richard Young, a 2023 top-100 prospect, who suffered a leg injury in Week 3 last year that caused him to miss the next four games. When he returned, Young didn't have a big role, finishing with 146 yards. Sophomore Daniel Hill (61 rushing yards) generated some optimism this spring, and Dre Washington, a transfer from Louisiana, rushed for 1,343 yards over the past three seasons in the Sun Belt. Alabama looks to bounce back from going 9-4 last season under first-year coach DeBoer. Spot the pattern. Connect the terms Find the hidden link between sports terms Play today's puzzle

Alabama RB Jam Miller reportedly likely to miss season opener vs. Florida State with upper-body injury

Alabama running back Jam Miller suffered an upper-body injury during Saturday's scrimmage and underwent a procedure for the issue, head coach Kalen DeBoer announced in a statement on Sunday. 'Jam Miller suffered an upper-body injury in Saturday's scrimmage and went in for a procedure on Saturday evening," DeBoer wrote. "Jam should recover fully with a timetable for his return yet to be determined.' The injury is expected to sideline Miller for the Crimson Tide's Aug. 30 season opener at Florida State, ESPN's Mark Schlabach reports. Alabama hosts Louisiana-Monroe on Sept. 6 and Wisconsin on Sept. 13 before a bye week. The Tide will then open their SEC schedule on Sept. 27 at No. 5 Georgia. [Join or create a Yahoo Fantasy Football league for the 2025 NFL season] Miller, 21, is the Tide's leading returning rusher as a senior, running for 668 yards and seven touchdowns on 145 carries last season. He also tallied 16 receptions for 155 yards and a score. With Miller sidelined, sophomore running backs Richard Young and Daniel Hill are expected to carry the rushing load. Young ran for 146 yards and 2 TDs on 27 carries last season, while Hill rushed for 61 yards and a TD on 21 attempts. Alabama also added transfer Dre Washington, who ran for 478 yards with 107 receiving yards for Louisiana in 2024. Freshmen AK Dear and Kevin Riley could also be in the mix. Last season's second-leading rusher among Alabama running backs, Justice Haynes, transferred to Michigan. QB Jalen Milroe led the Crimson Tide with 726 yards and 20 TDs before he became a third-round selection in the 2025 NFL Draft by the Seattle Seahawks. Alabama is ranked No. 8 in the AP preseason college football Top 25, which was released last Monday. Last season, the Crimson Tide finished 9-4 in DeBoer's first season as head coach, succeeding the legendary Nick Saban.
