JPJ hopes more B40 students will benefit from MyLesen B2 programme
JPJ director-general Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli said this aligns with the 10,000 new spots under the initiative recently announced by Transport Minister Anthony Loke.
"…we are targeting to help more underprivileged secondary school students aged 16 and above obtain their motorcycle licence so that they can ride to school.
"JPJ, the Ministry of Education and state education departments have reviewed several matters to expand the MyLesen B2 programme to the school level," he told reporters at the handover ceremony of the MyLesen B2 driving licence for Kedah state here today.
"I hope the government will consider JPJ's request to increase the allocation for the MyLesen B2 programme next year, as it has received an overwhelming response," he said, adding that the programme would also ensure better compliance with road traffic laws.
The government allocated 15,000 spots for the free motorcycle licence under phase one of the programme, which began in February.
The MyLesen B2 programme is an initiative to help the B40 group obtain a free Class B2 of the Malaysian Driving Licence (LLM), as part of efforts to enhance mobility, employment opportunities, and road safety.
Meanwhile, Aedly Fadly said that only the government can decide to lower the minimum age for obtaining a driving licence below 16, adding that thorough preparations and discussions are necessary before it can be introduced.
"Currently, the minimum age to obtain a motorcycle licence is 16 and 17 for a car licence…Lowering the age limit would require thorough preparation at driving institutes, for example, as well as addressing concerns from parents," he added. — BERNAMA

JPJ director-general, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, said the sweep snared celebrities, influencers and entrepreneurs, with some owing up to RM29,000 in back taxes. 'The seized cars include Ferrari, Lamborghini and Rolls-Royce, with some of them still driven without road tax for about three years. 'In Johor alone, we detained 11 vehicles, including a car with an annual road tax of RM12,000. 'In Kuala Lumpur, the highest road tax arrears recorded was RM29,000,' he reportedly said at a press conference yesterday, as cited by The Star. Owners can only reclaim their luxury rides once all outstanding road tax, insurance, and summonses are cleared. 'Driving without a valid road tax and insurance puts not only other road users at risk, but also the driver themselves in the event of accidents,' Aedy Fadly warned. Its director-general, Datuk Aedy Fadly Ramli, said the operation is being carried out continuously across all states to take firm action against luxury vehicles being driven without a valid motor vehicle licence (LKM) or insurance. 'This operation is a stern measure against luxury vehicles that are being driven without paying road tax, with some also without insurance coverage. The vehicles will be detained and seized until the owners settle all outstanding road tax, insurance, and summonses before they are released,' he told a press conference at JPJ Taman Daya recently. Also present were JPJ senior director (Enforcement) Muhammad Kifli Ma Hassan and Johor JPJ director Azmil Zainal Adnan. Aedy said the seized vehicles included a Ferrari in Johor Bahru, which was without road tax and insurance, a Lamborghini Huracán with an annual road tax of RM12,000, and a Rolls-Royce in Kuala Lumpur with unpaid road tax of RM29,000 per year. He revealed that some of the vehicles had not had their road tax renewed for more than a year, with one case in Kuala Lumpur involving a lapse of up to three years, where the owner claimed to have 'forgotten' to renew it. 'We do not want luxury vehicles on the road without valid road tax and insurance, as the risks to public safety in the event of an accident are extremely high,' he said.
