UC Berkeley professor killed, reportedly by masked gunman in Greece
The university confirmed to CBS News Bay Area on Saturday the death of Przemyslaw "Pshemek" Jeziorski, an associate professor at the Haas School of Business.
"We are heartbroken by news of the tragic and sudden death of Professor Przemyslaw Jeziorski, a beloved member of our marketing faculty and Haas community," said Jennifer Chatman, dean of Haas School of Business.
A native of Poland, Jezioriski had taught at the business school since 2012.
According to reports from Greek and Polish media outlets, Jezioriski was in a suburb of Athens near his ex-wife's home on July 4 when a masked gunman shot him at least five times. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Jeziorski had two children with his ex-wife, who returned to Greece after their divorce six years ago. According to her attorney, the former couple were in the midst of a child custody dispute.
CBS News Bay Area was unable to independently verify these reports.
"While authorities are investigating what happened, our focus is on supporting our community during this difficult period. My heart goes out to Przemek's family and loved ones. We will miss him," Chatman added.
Łukasz Jeziorski, Przemyslaw's brother, said on a European crowdfunding site, "He was the victim of a terrible crime, and the perpetrator is still at large. Our family is heartbroken, and we are doing everything we can to ensure that justice is served."
Jezioriski previously studied at the Warsaw School of Economics, the University of Arizona, the University of Chicago and the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
Outside of his work at the university, Jeziorski co-founded the startup Keybee, a service that helps manage short-term rentals.

Police say girl found dead in upstate New York, no signs of possible abduction as father reported
The death of a 9-year-old girl whose father initially reported she was missing and possibly abducted is being investigated amid 'inconsistencies' in his account, police said Sunday after the girl's body was found in New York state. Melina Frattolin was reported missing from near Lake George in northeast New York late Saturday evening by her father, Luciano Frattolin, according to New York State Police. Both father and daughter were identified by authorities as residents of Canada. No charges have been announced in the case. The girl's body was discovered Sunday in the area of Ticonderoga, about 30 miles (50 kilometers) east of Lake George near the state line with Vermont during a search, state police said. Police said K9 and aviation units were involved in the search. Ticonderoga also is about 250 miles (400 kilometers) north of New York City in a popular resort area in the Adirondack Mountains. 'As the case progressed, law enforcement identified inconsistencies in the father's account of events and the timeline he provided,' state police said in a statement. "At this time, there is no indication that an abduction occurred, and there is no threat to the public," the agency added. The agency did not elaborate. Law enforcement officials said a news conference is scheduled for Monday. Luciano Frattolin's whereabouts weren't clear late Sunday. Man dead in shooting at St. Paul homeless encampment, police say
A man was shot and killed at a homeless encampment in St. Paul on Sunday, police say. Authorities say officers responded to the encampment near the 1200 block of Jackson Street at about 1:15 p.m. Officers were directed to a tent in the encampment where the man was, police say. Several people rendered first aid to the man, including police and medics from the St. Paul Fire Department. The victim was later pronounced dead on scene. No arrests have been made. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy to identify the victim and determine exact cause of death. Investigators are working to determine what led to the shooting and who is responsible. Anyone with information is asked to call the St. Paul Homicide Unit at 651-266-5650. Authorities say this is the fifth homicide of 2025 in St. Paul.
