Schools on Asean Summit routes to switch to remote learning, says Fahmi
PUTRAJAYA, May 7 — Schools located on routes to be affected by the upcoming two-day Asean Summit in the capital city will be shut for remote learning, Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said today.
The government has encouraged both private and public employers to work from home on those two days, in anticipation of heavy traffic caused by road closures.
The Ministry of Education will release the list of schools soon.
'The MoE will identify schools that are located on the key routes towards the summit location and the list will be released soon,' Fahmi said at this week's post-Cabinet press conference here.
'Pupils from the affected schools will be allowed to learn from home.'

Sultan Ibrahim meets new IGP Mohd Khalid in JB
JOHOR BARU, June 29 – His Majesty the King, Sultan Ibrahim, today granted an audience to newly appointed Inspector-General of Police (IGP) Datuk Seri Mohd Khalid Ismail. The King's Facebook page indicated that the meeting took place in Johor Baru, with Johor Police Chief Datuk M Kumar also in attendance. Sultan Ibrahim also serves as the Honorary Commissioner of the Royal Malaysia Police. Earlier this month, Mohd Khalid was appointed as the 15th IGP on a two-year contract beginning June 23, 2025. Prior to his new appointment, the 60-year-old served as director of the Special Branch and retired on April 8 but was reappointed on a contract basis from that date until now. He replaced Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, who stepped down from the post after a two-year term.

Two Sabah reps, businessman to face graft charges tomorrow over mining licence scandal
KOTA KINABALU, June 29 — Two state assemblymen and a businessman arrested by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) under Ops Adun, are reportedly scheduled to be charged tomorrow. New Straits Times wrote that the Sabah MACC said the trio are expected to be charged at the Special Corruption Court here at about 9am. They will face a total of four charges under the MACC Act 2009. Two of the charges will be brought under Section 16(b)(A) of the Act for offering bribes, while the other two will be under Section 16(a)(A) for accepting bribes. So far, 15 politicians have been implicated in corrupt activities between 2023 and 2024, in exchange for assistance in processing mineral exploration licence applications. Earlier this month, MACC said it would charge two Sabah assemblymen and a civilian in court this month over a corruption scandal involving the mining licences. MACC chief Tan Sri Azam Baki told reporters that the individuals were in the process of being arrested and notified about their court dates.

PBDS eyes comeback at next Sarawak state poll, mulls possible Opposition pact
SIBU, June 29 — Parti Bansa Dayak Sarawak (PBDS) is preparing to contest in the next state election by targeting constituencies deemed suitable, based on grassroots support and the aspirations of its members. PBDS president Mejar (Rtd) Moses Ripai said the party is in the process of identifying potential candidates who meet its internal criteria and are capable of serving the people effectively. He said this during the PBDS Ngiling Bidai gathering held at his residence in Taman Permai here last night, which was attended by over 100 members and their families. Among the senior leaders present were deputy president Julius Enchana, secretary Kipli Ayom, Selangau PBDS chief Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun, Kanowit chief Datuk Paduka Michael Lias, Saratok chief Dato Linang Chapum, PBDS Orang Ulu representative Dr Elli Luhat and PBDS Bidayuh representative Dr Bayang Teron. 'We have always remained committed to serving the people, even if our efforts are not always publicised. What we do on the ground does not need to be exaggerated, let our actions speak quietly but meaningfully,' said Moses in his address. He called on members to continue fostering unity and mutual understanding within the party, as these values are crucial to strengthening PBDS as it moves forward politically. Touching on potential collaborations, Moses said PBDS remains open to working with opposition parties, provided such cooperation is built on mutual respect and aligned with the party's core values. 'We welcome cooperation with any like-minded parties, as long as there is sincerity and respect for our principles,' he said. The event, held in conjunction with the PBDS 'Ngiling Bidai' Program, featured traditional elements such as the miring ceremony, Ngajat dance and the symbolic cutting of the 'ranyai' tree.
