Wellness centres inaugurated in Madurai

Madurai: Chief minister M K Stalin on Thursday inaugurated 208 urban health and wellness centres (UHWC) and 50 primary health centres (PHC) across the state through video conferencing from the Secretariat.
These new facilities were established at a total cost of 112 crore — 52 crore for UHWCs and 60 crore for PHCs.
Of these, 18 facilities were opened within Madurai city limits. One of the newly inaugurated centres in the city is located at ward 50, Thaikkal Street, where Madurai mayor Indrani Ponvasanth participated in the local launch event.
The centres are being set up under the National Urban Health Mission to improve access to primary healthcare services in densely populated areas.
Each centre will provide preventive and curative services such as screening for non-communicable diseases, maternal and child health services, vaccinations, and general outpatient care.
Officials from the Madurai corporation said these centres will help reduce the burden on tertiary hospitals by addressing health issues at the community level. The CM said the initiative is part of the state's broader goal to make quality healthcare accessible and equitable for all.

Four years of 'Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam' benefits 6.57 lakh in Krishnagiri district
KRISHNAGIRI: The 'Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam' programme has benefited a total of 6.57 lakh people in Krishnagiri district since inception in August 2021. The program, which provides doorstep healthcare, was inaugurated by Chief Minister MK Stalin at Samanapalli village near Shoolagiri. The scheme has helped people with hypertension (HTN), diabetes mellitus (DM), both HTN and DM, palliative care, physiotherapy, and continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis (CAPD). According to Krishnagiri District Health Officer Dr G Ramesh Kumar, "Krishnagiri district's population is 21.23 lakh. During the programme, 16.06 lakh people over 18 years old were screened for the first time. Among them, 6.57 lakh people were diagnosed with HTN (3.37 lakh), DM (1.57 lakh), both HTN and DM (1.32 lakh), palliative care (13,178), physiotherapy (13,161), and CAPD (8)." He also noted that a total of 147 Mid-Level Health Providers (MLHPs) and 239 Women Health Volunteers (WHVs) were involved. He added that among the ten blocks, Hosur City Municipal Corporation (HCMC), and Krishnagiri Municipality, most HTN cases were reported in HCMC at 25.19% (52,240 people). The Uthangarai/Singarapettai block recorded 24.90% (33,373), and Thally/Kakkadhasam block had 22.57% (35,337). The lowest rate was in Mekalachinnampalli/Krishnagiri Rural, at 14.23% (18,279).

Provide best medical services to those visiting PHCs: Nandyal Collector
Collector Rajakumari Ganiya asked the medical officers to provide the best possible services to those visiting primary health centres (PHCs). The Collector was on a tour of Gospadu mandal headquarters, during which she visited the PHC, Rythu Seva Kendram, and a private fertiliser shop. During her visit to the PHC, Ms. Rajakumari Ganiya enquired about the staff strength, the number of pregnancy deliveries, availability of medicines, and how expired tablets were being disposed. She said that people visit government hospitals with a belief that quality medical care would be available and asked the staff to meet their expectations. Ms. Rajakumari Ganiya asked the staff to create awareness among the people about the benefits of delivering at a government hospital and to increase the number of deliveries. She said that steps would be taken to fill staff vacancies, if any, and asked the staff to maintain clean and hygienic conditions on the PHC premises. The Collector also interacted with the patients and enquired whether they were getting proper treatment, among other things. Later, she visited the Rythu Seva Kendram and enquired about e-KYC, enrolment of crops with the kendram, extent of crop sown, availability of urea, and others with the staff there. She asked the staff to educate farmers about the ill-effects of excess usage of urea in cultivating crops. Ms. Rajakumari Ganiya inspected the Sri Venkata Sai fertilisers shop and went through the records to verify the fertilisers and DAP stocks. She asked the shop management to sell fertilisers at the price fixed by the government and warned of registering criminal cases, if the farmers were forced to buy fertilisers at a higher price.

All 48 vacant dentist posts in govt colleges to be filled immediately, says health minister Ma Subramanian
CHENNAI: Health Minister Ma Subramanian on Tuesday said all 48 vacant dentist posts in government dental colleges will be filled immediately through the Medical Services Recruitment Board (MRB). Speaking to reporters after inaugurating equipment and infrastructure upgrades at the Government Dental College in Chennai, the minister said apart from 40 dentists, recruitment of 450 technical staff has also been completed. 'The chief minister will soon hand over the appointment orders to the selected candidates,' he said. It may be recalled that last month, the Dental Council of India (DCI) issued a notice to the state health department about deficiencies in faculty attendance. On the naming of health scheme after Chief Minister MK Stalin, Subramanian said it was 'strange' that the AIADMK has filed a contempt plea. 'The previous AIADMK government ran schemes like Amma Uppu, which was sold in just 10 shops, and Amma Drinking Water, which was available only at bus stands,' he said. 'The AIADMK has filed a petition out of jealousy because the DMK has gained huge public support due to such schemes,' he stated.
