Popular for chartbusters such as Taare Hain Baraati (Virasat) and Bumbroo (Mission Kashmir), Jaspinder still remembers the first ever time she sang, 'I was eight! I sang on Doordarshan, and after that I sang Dumadum Mast Qalandar at the launch of Doordarshan in Jalandhar. I was one of the first people in the country to sing Dumadum Mast Qalandar. I would accompany my mother to her shows in Canada and London. Someone gifted her a record of the song, and when I listened to it I liked it, and prepared it.'
Ask her about the high points of her prolific career, and she replies, 'Every song of mine gave me so much gratification. I got love of the people. When I received the Padma Shri from our President, she remembered that she had also honoured me on April 12 at another felicitation at the Punjab University. Waqt kam hota hai Padma awards mein baat karne ka unse, but she did smile and remember.'

Actor Jackie Shroff, PETA India donate mechanical jumbo to Kerala temple
Agency: PTI Thrissur(Kerala), Aug 16 (PTI) PETA India and Bollywood actor Jackie Shroff on Saturday gifted a life-size mechanical elephant to the ancient Nediyathali Sri Siva temple at Kodungallur here. The three-metre-tall, 800-kilogram mechanical jumbo, named 'Thaleeswaran', was donated to the temple in recognition of its decision to never own or hire live elephants, People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India said in a statement. The mechanical jumbo will be used by the temple to conduct ceremonies and it was welcomed through an inauguration ceremony by the temple which also hosted a 'Panchari Melam' performance, a PETA India statement said. Shroff, praising the initiative, was quoted as having said that his heart lights up when he sees 'God's creations living happily". 'Elephants are not meant to stand on hard floors, carry people on their backs, or walk in circles with chains around their legs. God intended for them to splash in rivers, roam in forests, and just be elephants. 'That's exactly why I'm donating Thaleeswaran, a mechanical elephant, to a revered temple in Kerala," the actor said. After the inauguration of the mechanical jumbo, Congress MP Benny Behanan said he was pleased with how beautiful it was. 'Though it looks like a real elephant, it is completely safe. Children can touch it, take photos, and enjoy its presence without any risk and this brings great joy to their hearts. 'It feels just like a real elephant, but with the added safety and compassion that makes it perfect for temple traditions," he is quoted as having said in the statement. The president of the temple, Suresh Babu, also welcomed the mechanical elephant, saying it was not just a symbol of tradition, but 'a tribute to all sacred beings created by the divine". 'With this compassionate step, we can honour Lord Ganesha without causing distress to any living being," he said, according to the statement. Thaleeswaran is the eleventh robot elephant donated to temples by PETA India and the seventh in Kerala. It is the third such elephant, made from rubber, fibre, metal, mesh, foam, and steel, and powered by five motors, donated to a temple in Thrissur. The other life-size mechanical elephants already in use in Kerala temples through PETA India's efforts include Irinjadappilly Raman at the Irinjadappilly Sree Krishna Temple and Kombara Kannan at the Kombara Sreekrishna Swami Temple, both in Thrissur; Mahadevan at the Thrikkayil Mahadeva Temple in Kochi; and Vadakkumbad Sankaranarayanan at Edayar Sree Vadakkumbad Shiva Vishnu Temple in Kannur. Besides these, PETA India has gifted mechanical elephants — 'Baladhasan' and 'Devi Dasan' — to the Pournamikavu Temple and the Balabhadrakali Kshetram at Perumkadavila, both in Thiruvananthapuram. 'A mechanical elephant looks, feels, and functions like a real elephant. It can shake its head, move its ears and eyes, swish its tail, lift its trunk, and even spray water. It can be climbed upon, and a seat can be affixed to its back. 'It operates simply by plugging it into an electrical source. It can be taken through the streets and is mounted on a wheelbase, allowing it to be moved and pushed around for rituals and processions," PETA said. Nediyathali Sri Siva Temple is a historically significant temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and houses one of the largest Shivlings in Kerala, facing west, it said. It is one of the four Thali temples built during the Perumakan dynasty and notably, King Ramavarma Kulashekara had sought refuge here during an attack on Kodungallur and formed a chaverpada (suicide squad) from within the temple, the statement said. Thus, when it was announced that the show would have a cinematic adaptation, fans couldn't keep calm. However, the film's casting has not yet been finalised, as the studio reportedly wants Ranveer Singh in the lead role, but Mukesh has made it clear he doesn't believe Ranveer is the right fit. Mukesh Khanna on why Ranveer Singh should not play Shaktimaan In a recent interview with Filmygyan, Mukesh responded to a fan asking him to sit back and let Ranveer take the role of Shaktimaan. He said, 'You can't change my mind. You like Ranveer Singh, and I like him too. We've sat and talked for three hours, and he's a very energetic actor. But I have openly said to his face, You can play Tamraj Kilvish (the story's villain). His face has a mischievous positivity. This actor — if you tell him to play Shaktimaan, you might enjoy it because he makes you dance, but you need someone mature enough to play Shaktimaan.' He expressed how the real-life image of an actor can affect their reel-life portrayal and said, 'Maine kaha dekho, mereko Shaktimaan ke liye actor nahi chahiye, face bhi chahiye. Kahin na kahin real-life mein agar aapki image galat hai, toh who beech mein aati hai. The show, Shaktimaan, aired on Doordarshan from 1997 to 2005, starring Mukesh Khanna in the dual role of Shaktimaan and his alter ego Pandit Gangadhar Vidyadhar Mayadhar Omkarnath Shastri, a clumsy photojournalist. The show also featured Kitu Gidwani, Vaishnavi, Surendra Pal, and Tom Alter and was a huge success. It ran for 450 episodes over almost eight years and is still remembered with nostalgia as the pioneer of the Indian superhero genre. Makers want Ranveer in the lead role In 2022, Sony Pictures announced Shaktimaan, the film, stating that it will be a trilogy bringing back the iconic superhero. The announcement video was captioned, "After the super success of our many superhero films in India and all over the globe, it's time for our desi Superhero!" In a follow-up tweet, the studio wrote, "We are excited to join hands with Brewing Thoughts Private Limited, and Mukesh Khanna's Bheeshm International. Get ready for #ShaktimaanMovie; more details coming soon." While Mukesh Khanna has clearly expressed his problem with Ranveer Singh playing Shaktimaan, filmmaker and actor Basil Joseph, who is said to be directing the film, told Subhash K. Jha in an interview for Bollywood Hungama that the film will only be made with Ranveer Singh. He said, 'No one else is doing Shaktimaan. It is Ranveer Singh and no one else. Whoever is spreading rumours of his replacement clearly has their own agenda.' Ranveer Singh's upcoming project Ranveer Singh is awaiting the release of his upcoming movie, Dhurandhar. Directed by Aditya Dhar, the film also stars Sanjay Dutt, Akshaye Khanna, and Arjun Rampal in lead roles and is scheduled to release on December 5.

During an interview with Complex News, the Oscar-winning actor inquired about what being 'cancelled" meant. The host explained that it meant someone losing public support. Without missing a beat, Denzel quipped, 'Who cares?" He added, 'What made public support so important to begin with?" The interviewer then pointed out that in today's world, 'followers are currency". But the actor was still not convinced. He said, 'I don't care who's following who. Okay? You can't lead and follow at the same time, and you can't follow and lead at the same time.
