Teen motorcyclist killed in crash along LPT2 near Kerteh
KEMAMAN: A teenage boy was killed after the motorcycle he was riding was involved in an accident at Kilometre 321.3 of the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) near Kerteh early this morning.
In the 12.05am incident, the victim, identified as Hairodariush Amri Hairodadamizan, 16, died at the scene after sustaining severe injuries from being dragged about 33 metres in the crash.
Kemaman district police chief Superintendent Mohd Razi Rosli said the teenager was reportedly riding in a convoy with several friends from Paka, Dungun to Kijal prior to the accident.
"The victim was believed to be on his way home to Kampung Titian Berayun in Kijal when the accident occurred.
"He was riding a Yamaha Y15 motorcycle alone when he is said to have lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road," he was quoted as saying to Buletin TV3.
Mohd Razi said the motorcycle crashed into the expressway's metal guardrail.
"The impact caused the victim to be thrown and dragged to the middle of the highway," he said.
The victim's body was sent to the Kemaman Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

Nine-year-old boy allegedly sodomised by schoolmate
PETALING JAYA: A 12-year-old boy who allegedly sexually assaulted his nine-year-old schoolmate cannot be prosecuted under Malaysia's current legal framework, highlighting a significant gap in the country's child protection laws. Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat confirmed that while the 12-year-old suspect has been arrested and investigated for the alleged sodomy incident, he cannot face charges in court due to Section 113 of the Evidence Act 1950. The law stipulates that children below 13 years of age are considered incapable of committing rape based on an 'irrebuttable presumption,' effectively placing them beyond prosecution for such offenses. According to Buletin TV3, the alleged sexual assault occurred approximately two months ago between the two boys, who attend the same primary school in Kelantan. The victim subsequently informed his mother about the incident, prompting her to file a police report. 'The incident took place once and following that, the victim's mother came forward to lodge a police report,' Mohd Yusoff was quoted as saying. The police chief expressed concern about the legal limitation, calling for amendments to address what he sees as an increasing problem involving underage perpetrators. 'Therefore, I am of the view that this section should be amended to allow for the perpetrator to be charged, as there have been many cases involving suspects who are also underage children,' he said. The case underscores ongoing debates about how Malaysia's legal system should handle serious crimes committed by children, particularly as incidents involving juvenile offenders continue to emerge across the country.

Company director loses over RM137,000 in govt tender scam
CHUKAI: A company director lost RM137,200 after falling victim to a syndicate offering a fake government tender. Kemaman police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli said the 52-year-old man was contacted via WhatsApp on May 13 by someone posing as a representative of a public university in Kelantan, offering a tender to supply 20 air-conditioning units and a power generator. "To gain the victim's trust, the suspect sent four purchase orders allegedly issued by the Higher Education Ministry secretary-general, along with contact details of a supposed supplier," he said in a statement on Sunday (June 1). Convinced by the offer, the victim made seven bank transfers to an account under the name Gertrude Chee over five days starting Tuesday (May 27). He later discovered the tender was a scam. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. Police urge the public to verify any tender offers with the relevant authorities before making financial transactions. - Bernama
