Woman Brought Her 8-Year-Old Son to a No-Kids Wedding Event. Then She Cried When He Wasn't Allowed in

Yahoo19-04-2025

Woman says she attended a no-kids wedding, but brought her 8-year-old son to the post-wedding brunch the following day because it "didn't occur" to her that it would be a problem
The woman says that the bride then "gently" kicked her son out of the brunch
The woman shared her experience on the U.K.-based community site Mumsnet.com, and the majority of post commenters firmly sided with the bride
A woman says she brought her 8-year-old son to a wedding event even though he wasn't invited — and was surprised and 'ashamed' when he was asked to leave.
The woman detailed her experience on the 'Am I Being Unreasonable?' forum on the community site Mumsnet.com, which is a place where women can go to seek advice from other women about interpersonal issues. In her post, shared on Monday, April 14, the woman explained that that she has been living with her current partner for over a year, and she was invited to his sister's wedding.
She said her partner asked his sister if she could bring her son — who both the bride and groom have met — but he was told the wedding would be an adult-only event. The original poster (OP) said she then asked her partner's sister 'directly' if she could bring her son to the evening portion of the wedding, and was told that 'no extra guests' were invited to that part.

The OP said that her son ended up having 'a sleepover with a friend' the night of the wedding, but he needed to be picked up by 9 a.m. as the friend's family was heading out for the day at that time.
The woman also said that she and her partner had only taken one car to the hotel where the wedding took place, so she picked her son up and brought him back to the hotel before the scheduled post-wedding brunch.

She explained it 'didn't occur' to her that bringing her son to the brunch would be a problem, noting in a later comment that 'other children' like 'godchildren and cousins' were invited. Also, she 'didn't see this as part of the wedding but post-wedding where it did't matter.'
Because of this, the OP said that she brought her son to the area of the hotel where the brunch was scheduled, but discovered that it was being held in a private room and only her name was on the list — so the hotel staff would not let them in.

She went on to say that she eventually was able to get into the area where the food was being served — but her partner's sister was not having it.
'His sister came over to my son and essentially asked him to leave, sort of gently by asking him to go out on [the] lawn with my partner. Partner left with us and we had breakfast in the [public] bit.'
'I actually started to cry over breakfast, then my son did,' the OP recalled, adding that she was 'ashamed of myself for this.'
'Did I make too many assumptions?' she asked at the end of her post.
The story left commenters divided over whether or not the OP was in the wrong, with some people saying they understood where she was coming from in this scenario.
'I don't think I would have brought my child to it but I can understand why you did - it's s--- you put [your son] in the position where he cried but it's weird the bride cared enough about brunch the day after her wedding to make an 8 year old not attend,' one person said.
Others, however, were firmly on the side of the bride and shared that they found the OP's behavior appalling.

'You were told countless times it's a child free wedding. I'd be livid if I was your SIL and you made a scene at my wedding like that,' someone said.
'The brunch was part of the wedding and you needed to check first,' added someone else.
Another user wrote: 'How rude of you to show up with your son when [you were] clearly told he was not invited. Why didn't you just grab something to eat for your son separately from the guests? By going there with your son you made everyone uncomfortable and most of all your son. A no is a no.'

Kevin Costner dismisses retirement talk as he pushes forward with new projects at 70

Kevin Costner isn't looking to retire anytime soon. The "Yellowstone" star, 70, has enjoyed a long, successful career in Hollywood, and with his ongoing "Horizon" western saga, he's not showing any signs of slowing down. In a new interview, he explained why retirement isn't on the table for him. "I don't even think about retiring, because I'll just move to the next thing that captures my imagination," Costner admitted to People. He explained that "imagination is what determines what I do, not a boss." The actor continued, "I think we're all different and we have different things happening for us. I've felt really lucky in my life. I'd like to think that I worked for all of it, but not everybody can live by the same blueprint." Costner made his film debut in 1981 with "Malibu Hot Summer," and he's been working steadily ever since. With acting roles in movies like "The Postman" and "The Bodyguard," as well as projects like the four-part "Horizon" saga and the classic "Dances with Wolves" that he's directed as well as starred in, it seems clear that he has worked for what he has. He explained to People that he doesn't have a "bucket list" per se, "but certainly my eyes and my enthusiasms are wide open and very big." Costner said, "I've so enjoyed life and imagining what I can do, what can I be about and what makes a difference. Not only to me, but to other people. What just satisfies me?" "I go through that whole idea, and you realize it's about time. It's a rush to get to all of them," he concluded. Costner currently has a number of projects in the works. Last year, he released the first two parts of "Horizon," the western film series he's writing, directing and starring in. The third movie is currently in production, with a fourth slated to follow. He's also writing and starring in two additional movies that are currently in pre-production, and is producing four television projects. The "Field of Dreams" star is also busy in his personal life as a father of seven. He shares his oldest children — Annie, 41, Lily, 38, and Joe, 37 — with ex-wife Cindy Silva. He shares his son, Liam, 28, with ex-girlfriend Bridget Rooney. He also shares children Cayden, 18, Hayes, 16, and Grace, 14, with ex-wife Christine Baumgartner. WATCH: KEVIN COSTNER WILL 'NEVER FORGET' WORKING WITH SON HAYES IN 'HORIZON' When it comes to parenting, Costner told Fox News Digital last month, "I don't know, the advice thing, I'd like them to see how I do my work. I take it seriously. I'm a public school guy. I was often at the wrong end of the bell curve. There was too much math, and there was not enough history. And I was made to feel like a dumbbell." "Because if you don't do well in that thing, you're a dumbbell. So, I always thought I was a daydreamer. I think I don't know what advice I give them, other than I hope they can find that yellow brick road, you know, to land on it and have the courage to go forward and don't let the economics drive their decisions in their lives. Find what they love."

The former aide to Hillary Clinton and her fiancé, billionaire Alex Soros, were all dressed up as loved ones gathered for their rehearsal dinner in the Hamptons on Friday, June 13, according to the Daily Mail, which obtained exclusive photos of the event. Abedin, 48, and Alex, 39, could be seen walking together on a waterfront estate on Shelter Island, N.Y., at the event, held ahead of their upcoming nuptials. The couple — who announced their engagement in July 2024 — walked side by side as someone who appeared to be a photographer followed in tow, one image shows. In another, Alex was photographed wrapping his arm around Abedin's back. For the pre-wedding event, Abedin wore a glittering, champagne-colored gown with flowy sleeves and a high neck, per the Daily Mail's photos. The Both/And: A Life in Many Worlds author paired the neutral-toned dress with matching heels and wore her hair down in a bouncy, side-parted blowout. Alex, the billionaire son of George Soros, complemented his bride-to-be in a tan suit, which he layered over a white shirt and paired with a pair of chunky sunglasses. The rehearsal also teased the star-studded guest list to come, with Hillary, 77, and husband Bill Clinton, 78, in attendance, according to the photos obtained by the Daily Mail. At one point during the festivities, Hillary appeared to chat with Abedin's son, Jordan, whom she shares with her ex-husband, disgraced politician Anthony Weiner. The former secretary of state and Jordan, 13, had a conversation together, just the two of them, one photo shows. Bill, meanwhile, was photographed exiting a vehicle after arriving at the Hamptons estate. The former U.S. president and first lady were surrounded by Secret Service agents at the event, per the Daily Mail. Other photos from the rehearsal dinner show guests mingling outdoors and large tents housing tables covered in floral cloths and a bar cart covered in empty champagne flutes. Abedin and Alex revealed their engagement in a joint Instagram post on July 10, 2024, less than a year after they met. It was later revealed that the billionaire had proposed a few months prior to the official announcement. Alongside a photo of himself on one knee in front of Abedin, Alex wrote: "This happened…we couldn't be happier, more grateful, or more in love ❤️ 😍 💍.' View this post on Instagram A post shared by Alexander Soros, PhD (@alexsoros) The groom-to-be proposed to Abedin "at home in New York City in late May,' and the pair later had "a formal celebration in Italy," according to Vogue. The couple reportedly met in the fall of 2023 at a mutual friend's birthday party, 'where they quickly discovered their mutual interests in politics and public service," per the outlet. While speaking with New York Magazine earlier this year, Alex said that his soon-to-be wife taught him what true love looked like. 'I hadn't been in a relationship for a very long time — 10 years or something like that — that had lasted for more than three months," he said. "And it's, like, the first time I realized I had been mistaking lust for love.' Echoing his sentiments, Abedin told the magazine that she "had never imagined I would meet someone whose life so seamlessly blended with mine.' Read the original article on People

Vivian Wilson, the 21-year-old daughter of Elon Musk and Justine Wilson, joined the lineup of Pattie Gonia Presents SAVE HER! - An Environmental Drag Show in Los Angeles on Friday, June 13, where she gave her debut drag performance as Vivllainous. The charity show was hosted at The Bellwether by Pattie Gonia to raise money for 'legal defense funds supporting immigrants' in the L.A. area. 'We're using drag to stand in solidarity with detained immigrants, protestors, and everyone raising their voices for justice,' the environmental activist and drag queen wrote of the event on Instagram. For her performance at the show, Vivian sported a sleek, skintight black bodysuit and structured translucent corset, which she complemented with a similarly futuristic makeup look — courtesy of another SAVE HER! performer. Noxxia Datura did the model's makeup for her debut, she revealed in an Instagram post on Saturday, June 14. 'Painted @vivllainous for her drag debut at the SAVE HER! show,' Datura wrote in part, and Vivian replied in the comments: 'Love you so much doll, ty for the faceeeee 🙌🙌.' But the star of the show was Vivian's hip-length hair, which she flipped around onstage while lip-syncing to 'Wasted Love' by Austrian singer JJ, footage from the event shows. She also held up a transgender pride flag at one point, while other event performers were also on the stage. The model reposted several clips of her performance on her Instagram Stories, including one from an audience member who declared that she 'slayed her drag debut' and another who called her hair flips 'lethal.' Another video Vivian shared showed her doing some impressive backbends before falling to her knees during the debut performance. The other performers on the SAVE HER! lineup included Vera!, Nini Coco, Jacob Ostler, Skirt Cocaine and Trudy Tective, according to the event website. The June 13 performance comes a few months after Vivian opened up about her identity — and her parents' differing reactions to her coming out as transgender — in a cover story for Teen Vogue. Her mom Justine, 52, was more supportive than her estranged dad, 53, when she confirmed her gender identity to them in 2020, the model and performer recalled in the interview. "She was very supportive of my transition," Vivian told the magazine of her mom. "She is a published writer of supernatural romance fiction, which is where I get all my Vivian-isms." "When I came out to her, she was like, 'Yeah, that figures.' She kind of [pieced it together], so when I came out, she pretended to be slightly surprised for 30 seconds and then was like, 'Yeah, honey. Okay,' " the 21-year-old continued. As for her father, the model told Teen Vogue that the Tesla CEO 'was not as supportive as my mom,' adding: 'First of all, I had not talked to him in months — in months — so I had to get f------ parental consent to get testosterone blockers and [hormone replacement therapy]."
