Previously, only 7 lakh hectares in the state were irrigated; now 55 lakh hectares are under irrigation. The target is to expand it to 100 lakh hectares in the next five years, he added.
Additionally, he announced that on the upcoming occasion of Raksha Bandhan, all Ladli Behnas in the state will receive Rs. 1,500 in their accounts--Rs. 1,250 as the fixed scheme amount and an additional Rs. 250 as a Raksha Bandhan gift. He added that with everyone's cooperation, Madhya Pradesh's landscape will be transformed in the next five years.
He further emphasised that the state is working for farmers' prosperity and aims to surpass Punjab and Haryana to become the No. 1 state in India. Agro-based industries are being promoted, and schemes have been launched to make Madhya Pradesh the dairy capital of the country.
Women in self-help groups and farmers are being encouraged to start cattle rearing, with a 25 per cent subsidy provided. The government will buy the milk. Ten gaushalas (cow shelters) are being opened in each municipal corporation. The per-cow subsidy has been increased from Rs. 20 to Rs. 40. The government will support anyone interested in opening a gaushala, he added.
CM Yadav furthermore announced that a stadium would be constructed in Bareli, Barna and Jamgarh irrigation projects in Udaipura Assembly constituency would be launched soon. Along with this, Bareli Nagar Parishad will be upgraded to Nagar Palika, a new veterinary hospital will be built in Bareli and development works will be undertaken at temples in Chhind, Bapauli, and Udaipura regions.
The Chief Minister also participated in a Tiranga Yatra (Tricolour Rally) held in Bareli to honour India's brave soldiers. The event witnessed massive public participation and the CM raised patriotic slogans like Vande Mataram and Bharat Mata Ki Jai, as people showered him with flower petals along the roadsides. (ANI)

The Indian Army has entered the first phase of a comprehensive transformation aimed at integrating traditional strengths with modern warfare capabilities. Announced by Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi on Vijay Diwas (July 26), the changes are part of the army's 'Decade of Transformation' (2023 to 2032) and are being implemented as India marks 79 years of transformation includes the creation of new formations such as all-arms Rudra Brigades, Bhairav Battalions, Divyastra Batteries, and Shaktibaan units. These developments aim to enhance the army's adaptability and firepower, using advanced technologies such as drones, loitering munitions, indigenous missile systems, and upgraded air defence capabilities. General Dwivedi said, 'The Indian Army today is effectively addressing contemporary challenges while rapidly advancing as a transformed, modern, and future-oriented force.' He also stated, 'Every infantry battalion now includes drone platoons, while the artillery's lethality has been significantly enhanced through Divyastra Batteries and loitering munitions batteries. The Army Air Defence is being equipped with indigenous missile systems.'The Army's Air Defence (AAD) branch is also strengthening its capabilities with the deployment of two new regiments of Akash Prime surface-to-air missiles, specifically designed for high-altitude areas along the border with China. These systems are capable of intercepting aircraft, helicopters, and drones up to 25 km away. Additionally, three regiments of the newer Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missiles (QRSAM), with a range of 30 km, are being procured at a cost of Rs 36,000 crore. These mobile, short-range missile systems will be shared between the Army and the Indian Air Force to provide rapid defence against aerial threats. Together, these systems reinforce India's multi-layered air defence network, which was put to the test during Operation Sindoor. Army sources confirmed that this network played a key role in preventing drone and missile attacks from Pakistan, including threats posed by Turkish-origin drones and Chinese-supplied missiles. By the end of August, the Indian Army is expected to raise five Bhairav Battalions. These lethal special forces units serve as a bridge between elite special forces and conventional infantry. While similar in nature to special forces, Bhairav battalions focus on less strategic tasks, freeing up elite units for high-priority, deep-penetration addition to these, the army is also forming new Bhairav light commando battalions designed to operate close to the border with speed and precision. These units will support the existing Para-Special Forces and Para (Airborne) Bhairav units are raised from regular infantry and equipped with updated weapons, technology, and drones. The target is to form 40 to 50 such battalions in after 'Bhairav,' meaning 'the terrifying one,' these battalions will conduct rapid surprise strikes, cross-border raids, and tactical disruptions as shock-and-awe are underway to equip all infantry battalions with drone platoons by the end of August. ‘Is this a joke?': Gauhati High Court on cement company being allotted 3,000 bighas in Assam's tribal district
The Gauhati High Court, in a hearing last week, made sharp observations about the allotment of 3,000 bighas of land (around 4 square kilometres) in Assam's tribal Dima Hasao district to a private company to set up a cement factory, directing the state to furnish the policy under which 'such a huge chunk of land' has been allotted for the purpose in a region under the Sixth Schedule of the Indian Constitution. Dima Hasao is a tribal majority hill district in Assam, administered through provisions under the 6th Schedule of the Indian Constitution with an autonomous council, the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC). In October 2024, a plot of land measuring 2,000 bighas was allotted to Mahabal Cement Private Limited, a private company with its registered address in Kolkata, and in November that year, it was allotted another adjacent plot of 1,000 bighas of land. The allotment order, issued by the Additional Secretary, Revenue, NCHAC, states that the purpose of the allotment is the installation of a cement plant. Incidentally, Mahabal Cement had signed an MoU for investment worth Rs 11,000 crore with the state during the Assam government's mega investment summit, Advantage Assam 2.0, in February this year, in which a company spokesperson had said that they would set up a cement plant in Dima Hasao. During a hearing on two petitions concerning this allotment last week, including one by a set of locals alleging that they are being evicted from their land for the purpose, a Bench of Justice Sanjay Kumar Medhi made the remarks when the counsel for the company, G Goswami, mentioned that the size of the allotment is 3,000 bighas. '3,000 bighas!… What is going on? 3,000 bighas allotted to a private company?… What kind of decision is this? Is this some kind of joke or what?' he remarked during the hearing. While the initial petition had been filed earlier this year by the company, seeking protection from 'disturbances created by local villagers' in construction work, Justice Medhi said last week that the court would like to examine the policy under which and the process through which the land was allotted to the company. In its order, the court referred to the size of the allotted land as 'extraordinary'. 'A cursory glance into the facts of the case would reveal that the land which has been sought to be allotted is about 3,000 bighas, which itself appears to be extraordinary. Ms. Goswami, the learned counsel, has, however, submitted that such allotment has been made pursuant to a mining lease granted under a tender process,' states the order. Directing the state to provide information on the allotment process, the court also noted the rights of tribal residents of the area concerned, as well as its environmental sensitivity. 'This court directs Shri C Sarma, learned Standing Counsel, NCHAC, to obtain the records containing the policy to allot such a huge chunk of land measuring 3,000 bighas to a factory. The aforesaid direction has been given by taking into account that the district is a 6th Scheduled District under the Constitution of India, where the priority has to be given to the rights and interests of the tribal people residing there. Further, the area involved is Umrangso in the district of Dima Hasao, which is known as an environment hotspot containing hot spring, stop over for migratory birds, wildlife, etc,' states the order. The Umrangso region in Dima Hasao has widespread coal, limestone and granite quarrying activities and a cement plant.
