Richfield police capture wandering sheep after nearly mile-long chase
"I was like, 'OK, we're gonna wrangle an animal today.'" said officer Megan Miller of the Richfield Police Department. "My mouth dropped open... I was shocked."
That jaw-dropping call was at 9:26 a.m. Police were requested to help shepherd a sheep near East 75th Street and 11th Avenue South, and found its owner along the way.
"We pulled up alongside of him and asked, 'Are you looking for a sheep?" And then one of the neighbors was like, 'It went that way!' And we all were like, 'Sweet,' and we just took off after the sheep," said officer Nolan Monahan.
That mission is now a conversation in person and online amongst Richfield residents.
"I was very confused and amused," said Richfield resident Kris Hoffwomyn, who was heading to work when she saw the sheep. "I was pretty sure it wasn't a dog. When I took a closer look, it was clearly not a dog."
Martin Guzman and his wife were home when they saw officers catch the sheep in their backyard, an ending to a pursuit nearly a mile away from where it began.
"It seemed very strange for me the see the police outside," said Guzman.
"He was out for 15 to 20 minutes. He was fast. He was panting," Miller said. "We kept saying he was running for his freedom."
Police say farm animals aren't allowed in Richfield, and the owner claims it was purchased to be harvested. Chickens are allowed with a permit.

Later on July 19, GloRilla performed at the WNBA All-Star game in Indianapolis. She turned herself over to authorities on July 22 and was charged with possession of marijuana and possession of a "schedule one" controlled substance — both felonies in Georgia. She was released on a $22,260 bond shortly afterward. 'The homeowner is a victim of a serious crime, and we are committed to bringing the suspects to justice,' Sheriff Ron Freeman told WSB-TV in Atlanta. 'At the same time, we must continue to uphold and enforce the law in all aspects of this case.' But GloRilla's attorneys objected to the arrest calling GloRilla "a victim, not a suspect," in a statement issued July 24. "Ms. Woods was out of town when her residence became a target for a group of home invaders who most likely knew she wasn't there," wrote the performer's attorneys, Marissa Goldberg and Drew Findling. "What they didn't know was that she had family staying with her that were traumatized by the violent entrance of this group. "This is our tax dollars at work, absolutely unbelievable,' they said. The incident occurred about 15 months after GloRilla's previous arrest. In April 2024, she was arrested on DUI and other traffic and alcohol charges in Suwanee, Georgia, a suburb of Atlanta, after an officer witnessed her make an illegal U-turn. Also in this case, the smell of marijuana led to further investigation and further charges, according to officers on the scene. LAPD pursuit ends after another driver collides with officer
Paramedics took an officer from the Los Angeles Police Department to the hospital after colliding with another driver during a pursuit in Willowbrook. The brief pursuit started at around 9:30 p.m. after the officer saw what they described as a reckless driver. Shortly after initiating the chase, another driver hit the officer's vehicle near the intersection of S. Mona Boulevard and E 124th Street, according to LAPD. The officer suffered an arm injury. Paramedics took the officer to the hospital in a stable condition. LAPD did not release the condition of the other driver; however, the person stayed at the scene. The suspect the officer was chasing drove away after the crash.
