Jabalpur bank robbery: J'khand gang with 15kg gold still untraceable

Jabalpur: The remand of four arrested accused in the sensational Khitola bank robbery case ends on Wednesday, even as police teams hunt for five members of a Jharkhand gang that fled with nearly 15 kg of gold from the bank locker. Six dedicated police teams have been dispatched, including units camping in Jharkhand, to track down the absconding robbers. Raids are being carried out at their suspected hideouts, officials said. The robbery took place on the morning of Aug 11, when three helmet-wearing youths stormed into the Khitola branch of ESAF Small Finance Bank around 8.50 am. Brandishing pistols, they forced the staff to hand over nearly 15 kg of gold ornaments and Rs 5 lakh in cash. Two accomplices waited outside with motorcycles, and the gang escaped within 20 minutes. At the time, only four employees were present in the bank. CCTV footage later revealed that the gang avoided the highway and fled via Majholi road. Police investigations have revealed that the plan was hatched inside Raigarh jail in Chhattisgarh, where Raees Singh Lodhi of Patan, arrested earlier in a narcotics case, came into contact with members of the Jharkhand gang. The heist was masterminded there, sources said. Raees, after getting bail, provided crucial logistical support. He roped in local youths, including Sonu Verman, who arranged a rented house for the gang in Indrana and helped them with reconnaissance of the bank and escape routes. Another accomplice, Hemraj, financed a new motorcycle in his name that was used in the crime. After the robbery, the five Jharkhand gang members regrouped at their Indrana hideout before Raees and Hemraj escorted them safely to Damoh. There, another associate, Vikas Chakravarty, arranged meals for the robbers at a roadside eatery and later booked train tickets on the Kolkata Express to help them escape to Jharkhand. Police have so far arrested three local youths and one from Damoh, but the main gang members remain at large. Stay updated with the latest local news from your city on Times of India (TOI). 3 electrocuted in 2 accidents during Ganeshotsav prep in city

Hyderabad: Three men died in two electrocution accidents during Ganeshotsav preparations in Hyderabad on Tuesday. The twin tragedy came a day after five persons were electrocuted during a Janmashtami chariot procession in Ramanthapur late Sunday. In Bandlaguda, two men — tractor driver Dhoni alias Toni (19) and Vikas (21), a labourer — were electrocuted and their associate, Akhil (23), was injured when the Ganesh idol they were transporting in a tractor-trolley came in contact with a high-tension power line on Tuesday. The injured man was hospitalised. According to Bandlaguda police, about 15 youths from Chandrapuram near Puranapul had gone to Laxmiguda in Jalpally to bring a 22-ft Ganesh idol for installation at their pandal under Hussainialam police station limits. The idol was loaded onto a tractor-trolley driven by Dhoni. There were about 15 youngsters in the trolley at the time of the incident. Three of them, including the driver, suffered a jolt and collapsed. Dhoni and Vikas were declared dead at a nearby hospital," said Bandlaguda inspector R Devender. Following the incident, police shifted the idol back to Laxmiguda. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Your Finger Shape Says a Lot About Your Personality, Read Now Tips and Tricks Undo A case under section 106(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (causing death due to negligence) was registered against the organiser of the pandal and others. Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) officials inspected the site on Tuesday and clarified that the idol had not touched the line directly. "There is a 33 kV high-tension line at 23 feet above the road, which means there would have been a gap of about one foot between the idol and the wires. We suspect induction shock. The idol wrapped in a plastic sheet came very close, and those who were in contact might have suffered a jolt. Witnesses said there were sparks, but the line did not trip since there was no direct contact," said TGSPDCL superintending engineer Devarakonda Sreeram Mohan. In the second accident, 18-year-old Ramcharan, a labourer, was setting up a Ganesh pandal in Amberpet late Monday when he accidentally touched an overhead electricity line with a bamboo stick while standing on the pandal structure. "The bamboo was raw, and Ramcharan suffered a jolt. He fell 15ft below, sustaining a severe head injury. Locals rushed him to a private hospital in Kacheguda. He succumbed during treatment on Tuesday evening," Amberpet inspector T Kiran Kumar said. Police registered a case under BNSS Section 194 (suspicious death) based on a complaint from Ramcharan's kin and sent the body for post-mortem.
