"These Chinese attempts are deplorable": Major General Dhruv C Katoch slams China over attempts to rename places in Arunachal Pradesh
New Delhi [India], May 14 (ANI): Major General Dhruv C Katoch on Wednesday slammed China over their attempts to rename places in Indian state Arunachal Pradesh stated that the attempts of China were 'deplorable'.
'These Chinese attempts are deplorable. For no rhyme or reason, China continues to interfere with Arunachal Pradesh...' Katoch told ANI.
He also stated that the world should take notice of what China was doing in Tibet, further stating that if India took up the lead for Tibetan independence, it would be supported by the world and the United States.
'India could take up the lead for Tibetan independence, and the world, especially the United States, could support that move. Once Tibet becomes an independent country, all our problems with China will get resolved... Tibet becoming an independent country would be the long-term solution for stability in Asia,' he added.
On May 14, India categorically rejected China's vain and preposterous attempts to rename places in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh and emphasised that such manoeuvres would not change the reality that Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India.
Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), Randhir Jaiswal, made the remarks on Wednesday while responding to the media queries on the renaming of places in Arunachal Pradesh by China.
Jaiswal said, 'We have noticed that China has persisted with its vain and preposterous attempts to name places in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh. Consistent with our principled position, we reject such attempts categorically.'
He added that such 'creative naming' will not alter the undeniable reality that Arunachal Pradesh is an integral part of India.

In the past, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had said, 'If today I change the name of your house, will it become mine? Arunachal Pradesh was, is and will always be a state of India. Changing names does not have an effect.'
'I think we rightly called it senseless. By doing it repeatedly, it is still senseless. So I want to be very clear. Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and will always be India,' he had said. The EAM had also emphasised, 'I hope I am saying it so clearly that not only in the country but beyond the country also, people get that message very, very clearly,' Jaishankar emphasised.
India has time and again firmly rebuffed the baseless arguments by China to rename Indian territories. Arunachal Pradesh, was, is and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India. (ANI)

India slips to 131st position in Global Gender Gap Index 2025
New Delhi, India has ranked 131 out of 146 countries in the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Gap Report 2025, slipping two places from its position last year. With a parity score of just 64.1 per cent, India is among the lowest-ranked countries in South Asia, according to the report released on Thursday. India ranked 129 last year. The Global Gender Gap Index measures gender parity across four key dimensions: Economic Participation and Opportunity, Educational Attainment, Health and Survival, and Political Empowerment. The Indian economy's overall performance improved in absolute terms by 0.3 points. "One of the dimensions where India increases parity is in Economic Participation and Opportunity, where its score improves by .9 percentage points to 40.7 per cent. While most indicator values remain the same, parity in estimated earned income rises from 28.6 per cent to 29.9 per cent, positively impacting the subindex score," the report said. Scores in labour force participation rate remained the same as last year India's highest achieved to date. In educational attainment, the report said, India scored 97.1 per cent, reflecting positive shifts in female shares for literacy and tertiary education enrolment, which result in positive score improvements for the subindex as a whole. "India also records higher parity in health and survival, driven by improved scores in sex ratio at birth and in healthy life expectancy," it said. However, similar to other countries, parity in healthy life expectancy is obtained despite an overall reduction in the life expectancy of men and women, the report said. "Where India records a slight drop in parity since the last edition is in Political Empowerment. Female representation in Parliament falls from 14.7 per cent to 13.8 per cent in 2025, lowering the indicator score for the second year in a row below 2023 levels," it said. Similarly, the share of women in ministerial roles falls from 6.5 per cent to 5.6 per cent, moving the indicator score further away this year from its highest level , it said. With notable gains in political empowerment and economic participation, Bangladesh emerged as the best performer in South Asia, jumping 75 ranks to rank 24 globally. Nepal ranked 125, Sri Lanka 130, Bhutan 119, Maldives 138 and Pakistan 148. The report said the global gender gap has closed to 68.8 per cent, marking the strongest annual advancement since the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet full parity remains 123 years away at current rates, according to the report. Iceland leads the rankings for the 16th year running, followed by Finland, Norway, the United Kingdom and New Zealand. The 19th edition of the report, which covers 148 economies, revealed both encouraging momentum and persistent structural barriers facing women worldwide. The progress made in this edition was driven primarily by significant strides in political empowerment and economic participation while educational attainment and health and survival maintained near-parity levels above 95 per cent. However, despite women representing 41.2 per cent of the global workforce, a stark leadership gap persists with women holding only 28.8 per cent of top leadership positions, the report said. "At a time of heightened global economic uncertainty and a low growth outlook combined with technological and demographic change, advancing gender parity represents a key force for economic renewal," said Saadia Zahidi, Managing Director, World Economic Forum. "The evidence is clear. Economies that have made decisive progress towards parity are positioning themselves for stronger, more innovative and more resilient economic progress," Zahidi said.

'No compromise with safety standards on helicopter service providers': Uttarakhand CM Dhami
Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami (ANI) DEHRADUN: Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has made it clear in strong words to all the helicopter service providers and operators serving in the state here that there should be no compromise with the safety standards of helicopter services, said an official statement. CM said that safety standards should be given top priority without getting complacent with the maximum number of passengers taking heli services. Along with this, the chief minister has also given instructions for audit and continuous review of heli accidents that have happened in the past years so that they do not recur. He has also directed UCADA to prepare a concrete policy to operate only double-engine helicopters in future. The chief minister has also directed UCADA and related stakeholders to study the heli service model being operated in Vaishno Devi. He has instructed to keep only highly experienced pilots in heli services in the state. Along with this, chief minister Dhami has also given strict advice to the heli operators to maintain sensitive behaviour with the passengers so that the tourists coming from all over the world have a pleasant experience in Devbhoomi. He has also directed the heli operators and the administration to run a cleanliness campaign on the Chardham routes. The chief minister said that in view of the increasing demand for heli services in future, many helipads are under construction in the state. So far this year, more than 66,000 passengers have availed the facility of heli shuttle services. chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has also directed UCADA to prepare an action plan for heli services for the state for the next 10 years in today's meeting. He said that being a tourism and Chardham state, the demand for heli services is going to increase more and more in the state. Due to the adverse geographical conditions, heli services will be the basis of the state in future.
