Marine restrains man allegedly trying to open plane's emergency exit during flight
NBC reported Sergeant Major Jody Armentrout was on Flight 114 from Tokyo to Houston when he saw a man acting suspiciously.
Armentrout, who has been in the Marines over 20 years, is stationed in Japan, and he told the media company he witnessed a suspicious man take his backpack to one bathroom before going from bathroom to bathroom.
"He came out of that one and began pacing up and down the aisle, so that just threw my radar on," the 50-year-old Marine reportedly said during a phone interview.

Armentrout said the man was looking at the emergency exit door next to him, and that's when the Marine quickly got up and placed himself between the man and the door.

The suspicious man turned around and ran around the plane before darting to an exit door on the opposite side of the aircraft.
Armentrout told the station he only had seconds to act.

"He grabbed a strap around the door, pulled it off and about that time is when I took him and slammed him, put him on the ground," he said. "And then there was an older gentleman sitting on that side that woke up, and he got up and kind of helped me."
Flight attendants also stepped in and handed the marine zip ties, which he reportedly used to restrain the man's wrists and secure him to a seat.
For the remainder of the flight, Armentrout sat next to the man.
The flight was diverted to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport.

"His eyes … you could definitely tell there was something going on," Armentrout said.
FBI Seattle confirmed the incident, saying it, along with the Port of Seattle Police Department, responded to All Nippon Flight 114 Saturday morning.
"The flight was diverted to Seattle due to a passenger attempting to open the exit doors mid-flight," FBI Seattle said. "The crew and passengers restrained the individual, who was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation after the flight landed.
The FBI also said a second individual was removed from the flight after becoming frustrated with the flight diversion and punching a bathroom door.

The flight continued to its destination after its stop in Seattle and landed in Houston without further incident.
No charges have been filed in the incident, the FBI said.
Prosecutors are reviewing reports and witness statements to determine if the case is appropriate for federal prosecution.
All Nippon Airways told Fox News Digital the flight was diverted due to an "unruly" passenger.
"While on the tarmac in Seattle, a second passenger became unruly," the airline said. "Both were removed from the flight by the Port of Seattle Police.

While my husband and I were thrilled we'd have our son home this summer between his freshman and sophomore years, we knew things had changed. After all, he chose to attend university halfway across the country, blazed his own trail out west, and started dating a fellow student. It seemed serious fairly fast, so we weren't surprised when he told us he planned to travel to Europe for a weeklong visit during the break to see her. However, when it became clear she wanted to make the same trek to stay with us, we weren't entirely sure what to expect. A bit of level-setting off the top made all the difference and kept things easy, breezy, and fun. Here's how we navigated the experience. We first established house rules We've always had pretty simple rules: If you're borrowing one of our cars, never drive impaired. Give us a general idea of when you'll be home. Call if you need help. Be conscientious, treat others as you'd prefer to be treated. In short: Don't be a jerk. Ahead of our guest's arrival, we reminded our son of our home's code of conduct. Discussing sleeping arrangements ahead of time was also crucial. Together, we decided they would share his bedroom, bathroom, and, of course, our common spaces. We simply asked for respect and discretion. The young couple was courteous, lovely, and sweet. They appreciated being treated as the adults they are, and there was no weirdness whatsoever. They set their own itinerary Aside from the first evening, when I knew his girlfriend would be exhausted after her long flight and made dinner at home, I left the entire week's planning to my son. His dad and I offered suggestions when he asked for them, but for the most part, we stayed out of the logistics. We didn't impose a curfew. We let them have access to one of our vehicles for the week, and off they went. This gave them agency to pursue their shared interests and to explore as they saw fit. They stayed busy sightseeing, hiking, and exploring as our son showed off his hometown. Truthfully, we didn't see much of them. Plenty of space and grace were key It was important to provide our son and his girlfriend plenty of privacy during her stay. We made sure to knock before entering any closed door — bedroom, bathroom, or otherwise — to avoid any potential embarrassing encounters. We were interested and engaged, but didn't smother, snoop, or otherwise try to insert ourselves in their activities. They needed time together, not with us. How they spent that time was different, too. They stayed up well into the wee hours (but never woke or disturbed me) and slept in far beyond my morning alarm. The two of them ate lots of sugary cereals, gummy candies, and instant ramen — culinary dorm room staples I don't usually keep at home. But I wasn't about to nag or scold. They reminded me of myself at that age. Perhaps someday they'll opt for more nutritious foods and a better circadian rhythm. Or not. That's not mine to manage anymore. We'd be thrilled to welcome her back anytime The week of the visit flew by without a single awkward word, moment, or circumstance. We were all somewhat sad to say our goodbyes. Mass shooting at NYC lounge leaves at least 3 dead, others injured; suspects at large
A mass shooting at a crowded lounge in New York City left at least three people dead and eight others injured as police search for multiple suspects, authorities said Sunday morning. Gunfire erupted around 3:30 a.m. at Taste of the City in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn after a dispute took place, NYPD Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch said during a news briefing. Officers responded within minutes to multiple 911 calls and found 11 gunshot victims ranging in age from 27 to 61, Tisch said. Three victims, two males aged 27 and 35, and a third male of an unknown age, were pronounced dead. The remaining eight victims were being treated at local hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, Tisch said. Tisch said investigators believe there were multiple shooters, though no suspects were in custody as of Sunday morning. "We have the lowest number of shooting incidents and shooting victims seven months into the year that we've seen on record in the city of New York," Tisch told reporters. "Something like this is, of course, thank God, an anomaly and it's a terrible thing that happened this morning, but we're going to investigate and get to the bottom of what went down." Investigators were canvassing available CCTV footage around the lounge and discovered at least 36 shell casings at the scene. Three people were killed and eight others were wounded in a shooting at a bar and restaurant in the Crown Heights neighborhood of Brooklyn early Sunday morning, the police said. Police officers were called to Taste of the City Lounge at 903 Franklin Avenue around 3:30 a.m. after multiple reports of gunfire, the police said. There, they found eight men and three women with gunshot wounds. Three men were pronounced dead at the scene. The other eight victims were taken to hospitals, the police said.
