Chants, flowers and faith mark Rath Yatra in city

Patna: The streets reverberated with spiritual fervour on Friday as the city observed the annual Rath Yatra, replicating the grandeur of Puri's iconic celebration. Organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (Iskcon), the Rath Yatra commenced at 2pm from the temple premises and drew thousands of devotees, local residents and visitors, all eager to be part of the sacred procession.
A towering 40-foot chariot, beautifully adorned with fresh flowers and carrying the idols of Lord Jagannath, Lord Baladeva and Subhadra, became the focal point of devotion and reverence. Cries of "Jai Jagannath", "Jai Baladeva" and "Jai Subhadra" echoed throughout the route as the deities made their way through the city. Lifelong members of Iskcon welcomed the chariot at several points along the route and performed arati rituals.
At various landmarks including the Income Tax roundabout, Vidyut Bhawan, Bihar Museum and others, the chariot was showered with flowers, while devotees lined both sides of the road to offer their respects.
Millions received 'prasad' distributed along the route, as the divine procession unfolded with traditional chants and rituals. The yatra was inaugurated with a ceremonial arati, performed jointly by L N Poddar, chief donor of Iskcon Patna, in the presence of a large gathering.

Raman Manohar Das, chairman of Iskcon Patna Temple Management Committee, said sweeping the ground before the yatra begins is an ancient tradition. "Along with observing this tradition, it is also very important that we cleanse our inner selves along with our external surroundings so that the supreme soul can reside within," he added.
Among those present on the occasion were building construction minister Ashok Choudhary and Bihar Religious Trust Board member Sayan Kunal.
Gaurav Singh, a local resident attending for the first time, said, "It is truly a blessed day. The energy and devotion are palpable, and it feels wonderful to see so many people come together with devotion to celebrate the tradition."
