PETALING JAYA : A 46-year-old Malaysian woman was arrested on Monday for allegedly attempting to smuggle more than 2kg of drugs worth over S$142,000 (RM469,889) into Singapore.
The Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) said ICA officers discovered two bundles concealed beneath the front fairing of the motorcycle ridden by the woman during an enhanced check at the Woodlands checkpoint.
'CNB was promptly alerted, and further checks uncovered a total of seven bundles from the same location,' they said in a joint statement today.
They said the bundles were later found to contain 1,057gm of cannabis and 973gm of methamphetamine.
The investigations are ongoing.
Those who import into or export from Singapore more than 250gm of methamphetamine or 500gm of cannabis may face the death penalty under the Misuse of Drugs Act 1973.

JPJ director-general Aedy Fadly Ramli said the other vehicles seized included a Ferrari, Rolls-Royce, Bentley, BMW 530e, Mercedes-Benz, Toyota Alphard and a Lotus Elise S. Their drivers were found to have committed various offences under the Road Transport Act 1987 and related regulations. 'The offences detected included lack of valid insurance, expired driving licences, use of fake registration plates, mismatched chassis numbers and use of counterfeit trade plates. 'All vehicles involved are now detained at the JPJ storage depot for further action and investigation,' Bernama reported him as saying at the Kuala Lumpur JPJ headquarters. Aedy said Op Luxury was aimed at curbing the careless attitude luxury vehicle owners had towards road regulations. 'Owning a luxury vehicle is not a licence to ignore the law. The laws of the country apply to all, regardless of status or brand of vehicle. 'Strict action will continue to be taken against anyone who fails to comply with basic requirements such as vehicle documents and valid driving licences,' he said.

He said his team had reviewed outstanding summonses, and identified a list of high-risk operators, which includes 300 lorries, 100 tour buses and 100 express buses. The main focus of the operation is to assess the level of compliance on safety, vehicle maintenance, driver management, and regulations under the Road Transport Act. Aedy said the action was taken following the recent accidents involving heavy vehicles, including the bus crash that claimed the lives of 15 students of Universiti Pendidikan Sultan Idris on June 9. Strict action will be taken against any operator found to be violating regulations or neglecting safety aspects, he said.
