Not Riyan Parag! Pundit Says 38-Year-Old Could Be RR Captain If Sanju Samson Leaves

Last Updated: Aakash Chopra suggests this 38-year-old star could lead Rajasthan Royals if Sanju Samson leaves. Former India batter Aakash Chopra believes that if Sanju Samson were to leave the Rajasthan Royals (RR) this season, Ravichandran Ashwin could be a good choice to lead the franchise. Chopra's comments were in light of rumors that Samson has conveyed his eagerness to look for a challenge beyond RR, and Ashwin has asked for the same at Chennai Super Kings (CSK), though it's not confirmed that the two teams are up for a switch. Samson missed five of the 14 league stage games in IPL 2025 and didn't captain in three more. Riyan Parag, 23, led the team in his absence but couldn't impress much, overseeing only two wins in eight games. There are other options in RR's young core, like Yashasvi Jaiswal who is said to have been harboring captaincy ambitions, and Dhruv Jurel, but neither has enough experience to make them a clear first-choice. 'RR's captain might come to CSK, although he might not become the captain, as Ruturaj Gaikwad might remain the captain, but Ashwin could go to Rajasthan and become their captain because they need a captain," Chopra said in a video on his YouTube channel. 'I was thinking who could become Rajasthan's captain if Sanju leaves. Dhruv Jurel, not ready and very, very young. Yashasvi Jaiswal, of course, has captaincy aspirations, but I don't think they will invest in him now. Riyan Parag was okay, okay last season. So it may just work out beautifully," he observed. CSK are said to be the most interested in bringing in Sanju, probably to ensure a succession plan for when MS Dhoni decides to call it quits. However, RR have reportedly asked a couple of players in exchange for Samson, but it is uncertain if CSK would agree. 'Sanju in yellow, so the keeping future is ready," Chopra said. 'Then MS Dhoni can do whatever he feels like. RR need an off-spinner as well because (Wanindu) Hasaranga and (Maheesh) Theekshana haven't done the job that much. So they would get that and a captain, and everything looks alright. I feel that can happen," he added. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. "I'll Trade Myself...": R Ashwin Teases Sanju Samson "You Can Travel Back To Chennai" Amid RR Exit Rumour

Is Sanju Samson going to leave Rajasthan Royals? And is Ravichandran Ashwin 's time at Chennai Super Kings ending? Those are the two big questions that are doing the rounds currently. Amid the reports, the two cricketers came togther for a podcast, where Ashwin could be seen teasing Samson about 'lot of rumours'. "I have a lot of questions to ask. But before that, I thought I'll come directly and trade myself. I am happy to stay back in Kerala. There are a lot of rumours going on. Neither do I know of anything. So, I thought I'll reach out to you and ask you. If I can stay back in Kerala and you can travel back to Chennai," Ashwin said, as Samson burst out laughing. Sanju on #KuttiStoriesWithAsh, powered by @PeterEngland_. Drops tomorrow afternoon. — Kutti Stories with Ash (@crikipidea) August 8, 2025 According to a report in Cricbuzz, Ashwin - who retired from international cricket last year, has informed the franchise that he has decided to part ways. As far as Samson is concerned, the RR captain did not play all the matches in the IPL 2025 after an injury. Even after he recovered, there were reports that he was not getting involved in the team meetings. After the IPL 2025 ended, where Rajasthan Royals missed out on a playoff spot, reports suggested that Samson was on his way out from the franchise with whom he has been associated since the beginning of his IPL career. Now a report in Cricbuzz has claimed that the differences between the two parties is so severed that the cricketer's family is openly saying that Samson does not want to continue with RR. "Serious differences have cropped up between Sanju Samson and the Royals management - so much so that the designated captain has formally requested to be traded or released into the auction," the report stated. "Members of Samson's family openly say that he no longer wishes to continue with the Royals. Some current IPL and international players close to him also indicate that his relationship with the franchise has not exactly been the way it used to be."

'Players Convey Same Message And Get Dropped': Rahane Hails Bumrah's 'Courage'

Last Updated: Ajinkya Rahane praised Jasprit Bumrah for his courage in informing the team about his limited availability. Ajinkya Rahane has praised Jasprit Bumrah for showing 'courage' in telling the team management beforehand about the number of matches he'd be able to play in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. Rahane said it's not an easy thing to admit in the country, for the selectors often drop such players. The BCCI's physios, along with the team medical staff, had decided long back that Bumrah shouldn't take the workload of more than three games in the series. He confirmed that publicly in pre-series interviews and featured in only the first, third, and fourth Tests, still bowling 119.4 overs for 14 wickets at 26. 'What I liked about the Bumrah situation was that he was pretty clear; he knew what he wanted to do before the series," Rahane remarked in a video on his YouTube channel. 'He said, 'I'll play the first one, I won't play the second one, and then I'll play the third'. Great clarity for a captain. It shows that he has the courage to tell the captain and management to be really clear. It also shows that he is keeping the team ahead of himself. Sometimes it is not easy to do so when you are playing for India. Sometimes players convey the same message to the team, and then they get dropped," he added. Indeed, soon after the Test series ended, some reports cited unnamed BCCI officials saying that the board was considering revising its planning on Bumrah and picking him only for series where he's fully fit for all games. Rahane suggested that to prolong Bumrah's impact, India will need to 'use him properly' and give him the luxury of enough rest. 'Because of his unique action, there is a lot of load on his body. If you want Bumrah to play all five Tests, then use him in smaller spells like three or four overs," Rahane suggested. 'I think England were wary of Bumrah when he was playing; 'Bazball' didn't come out to the full extent. When Bumrah wasn't there, they played a little freely. It is important to use him properly; you have to give him the luxury to get the best out of him, he said. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
