‘STV legend' Glen Michael host of Cartoon Cavalcade dies aged 99
His family said he died peacefully at his home in South Ayrshire early on Wednesday evening.
STV's audience director Bobby Hain said: 'We are deeply saddened to hear that Glen Michael has passed away.
'Glen was a wonderful performer and personality and we know that many viewers will have very fond memories of him.
'He was an STV legend, with Glen Michael's Cavalcade a particular favourite for children across Scotland during its 26-year run.
'Our thoughts are with his family at this time and we send them our deepest condolences.'
Michael was born Cecil Edward Buckland in Devon in 1926, but adopted the name Glen Michael as he began a showbusiness career.
One of his childhood acquaintances would grow up to be Queen Elizabeth II's horse racing manager, Lord Porchester, whom he knew as 'Porchey'.
He had an itinerant childhood and spent a period in a workhouse.
Seeking fame and fortune, he travelled to London and put on an act impersonating famous people such as Sir Winston Churchill.
During the war, he was conscripted into the RAF and performed shows for troops in military camps.
After a career touring Scotland with variety shows, he joined STV where he began presenting children's shows.
His Cartoon Cavalcade grew in popularity and became a much larger show than first envisaged, involving silly humour and family entertainment.
Guests on the cavalcade show included Slick the pop group, with Midge Ure at the start of his career.
Michael was also one of the original presenters on Radio Clyde in 1974.
During his later years he supported the veterans' charities Erskine and Age UK.
He is survived by his family including two great granddaughters.

All Creatures Great and Small star says he's 'done' as fans spot 'missing' character
Some of the main cast members of All Creatures Great and Small were seen summing up each series of the Channel 5 drama in a video released by the broadcaster All Creatures Great and Small favourite Callum Woodhouse has sparked speculation about his departure from the beloved series following a cryptic comment in a Channel 5 Instagram video. The clip featured cast members summing up each series of All Creatures Great and Small in just one word. But when quizzed about his feelings on series six of the hit drama, the Tristan Farnon actor simply declared he was "done." The video also showcased Samuel West, Rachel Shenton, and Nicholas Ralph discussing the show's journey. The cast branded series one as "new" and "exciting", whilst Samuel admitted feeling "tired" during filming due to juggling another project simultaneously, reports the Manchester Evening News. Nicholas dubbed series three "majestic," while Rachel gushed it was "Lovely as lots of lovely things happened." Callum confessed he was "absent" in series four before touching on his comeback in series five. Discussing the forthcoming episodes, Rachel declared them " the best," while Nicholas branded them "joyful." One eagle-eyed fan spotted Callum's remark and posted: "Done??" Another queried, "Does 'done' mean it's the last one?" Channel 5 swiftly responded, reassuring the worried fan: "Wrapped for series 6!". Whilst devotees were delighted to see their beloved characters providing an update, others spotted that one key character was absent: Mrs Hall, portrayed by Anna Madeley. One fan remarked: "Can't wait to have them all back - bit sad that Anna was missing in this video." Another concurred: "Can't wait for S6... but where was Anna Madeley?" A third chimed in: "And where's Anna I miss her." While we're still waiting for the specifics about the plot and release date of series six, fans can look forward to seeing familiar faces like James, Helen, Siegfried, Tristan, and Mrs. Hall. In season five, we saw James come back from RAF training, grapple with a brucellosis diagnosis, and navigate the highs and lows of new parenthood. We also witnessed Tristan's return and Carmody's exit. Series six will probably delve deeper into the themes of community spirit, kindness, and the war's effect on the characters' lives and the Darrowby locals. All Creatures Great and Small is available to watch on My5.

Davina McCall shares 'end-of-life checklist' she used after rare tumour diagnosis
The TV star said facing death dramatically shifted her perspective, prompting her to create an end-of-life checklist Davina McCall has opened up about the drastic steps she took after being diagnosed with a brain tumour. The TV star found she had a rare 14-mm colloid cyst, which affects only three in every million people, during a chance health check in 2023. Fortunately, the tumour was benign and last year, Davina had neurosurgeon Kevin O'Neill successfully remove it. But speaking at Fearne Cotton's Happy Place Festival, she revealed how facing death dramatically shifted her perspective, prompting her to create an end-of-life checklist. According to the Express, the ex-Big Brother host said: "I needed to get my brain in the right place where I could be calm before the operation. I had to make sure that my kids were going to be OK if I did not make it. That is all I really cared about. "I knew my partner, Michael, would be OK as he is a whole person, but I was really worried about my kids." Davina and her 'soulmate', celebrity hairdresser Michael, have been dating since 2019, following the end of her 17-year marriage to Matthew Robertson in 2017. Davina, who shares Holly, 23, Tilly, 21, and 18-year-old Chester with her ex, added: "I went into forensic thinking about my children and where they were at in their lives, what stage they were at. You are only happy as your unhappiest child." She continued: "But I realised that they would be great, they would miss me, and I want to be with them, but they would be fine. I felt I could go to sleep on the operating table and know that they were all here to help me, but I can let go of the outcome, and it was the best gift." If the operation had not been successful, Davina could have suffered a stroke or lost her ability to 'hold a short-term memory beyond five minutes'. However, if the cyst had remained undetected, or if Davina had chosen not to have it removed, she could have died 'suddenly' without any warning or chance to say goodbye to her family and friends, according to The Times. During an intensive five-hour surgery, a neurosurgeon cut open her skull 'from ear to ear', successfully extracting the 14mm colloid cyst located in the 'third ventricle', a deep-seated area of the brain. Davina disclosed that ultimately, her mental checklist boiled down to accepting that her beloved family may need to carry on without her. She penned three heartfelt letters to her children in the event she did not survive. But now, having recovered from the operation, the mother of three insists it is the 'best thing' to ever happen to her. Davina continued: "I am not afraid of dying anymore. It was the biggest journey of my life. It was an amazing time. "I have been on a massive life journey, and I have been through terrible struggles. That is where the learning comes from. If something really hard happens now, I know it is a good thing."
