Flash flood in Nepal blocks 16-km stretch, no casualties reported

Kathmandu, Jul 30 (PTI) A flash flood in Nepal's Bhotekoshi river early on Wednesday once again blocked the Syabrubesi-Rasuwagadhi road section in Rasuwa district. However, no casualties were reported.
The flash flood was triggered by heavy rain on the Chinese side of the border, according to officials.
According to the Rasuwa district's Traffic Police Office, the flood has swept multiple stretches of the road.
On July 8, the river washed away nearly one kilometre of road, halting movement along the 16-kilometre stretch from Syabrubesi to Rasuwagadhi.
Although one-way traffic had resumed on July 20, the route is now completely shut down again.
The flood has damaged parts of the road in wards 2 and 3 of Gosaikunda Rural Municipality. Two pickup vans, which had been stuck since the July 8 flood, were also swept away on Wednesday.
According to the authorities, the river's water level began rising around 2 am.
Warnings have been issued for residents in low-lying areas, officials said.
The flood also damaged a weighing station at the Timure customs yard and washed away parts of a road under construction near the Rasuwagadhi border point, where Chinese authorities were preparing to install a Bailey bridge.
The Rasuwa District Administration had already issued alerts earlier this week, warning of possible floods in the Bhotekoshi, Trishuli, Langtang and Chilime rivers.
On Wednesday, the Nuwakot District Administration also called for caution, citing reports from Rasuwa of rising water levels in the Trishuli river.
A previous flood in the Bhotekoshi river on July 8 had caused significant damage on both sides of the Nepal-China border and also swept away the Friendship bridge connecting Nepal and Tibet. PTI SBP GSP GSP

Delhi records high of 34.8 deg C; AQI satisfactory
Last Updated: New Delhi, Aug 6 (PTI) Delhi on Wednesday recorded a maximum temperature of 34.8 degrees Celsius, 1.4 notches below the seasonal average, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The minimum temperature was recorded at 26.1 degrees Celsius, 0.8 degree below the normal, the Met office said. The relative humidity at 8.30 am and 5.30 pm was 80 per cent and 70 per cent, respectively, it said. According to CPCB, an AQI between zero and 50 is considered 'good', 51 and 100 'satisfactory', 101 and 200 'moderate', 201 and 300 'poor', 301 and 400 'very poor', and 401 and 500 'severe'. Delhi: Yamuna water level nearing warning mark
Agency: Last Updated: August 06, 2025, 19:00 IST Representational image (Image: News18) New Delhi, Aug 6 (PTI) The Yamuna River in Delhi reached the mark of 204.13 metres at 4 PM at the Old Railway Bridge, just 0.37 metre away from the 204.50 metres warning level, officials informed on Wednesday. According to officials, the increase in level is likely due to rainfall in the upper catchment areas of Haryana and Uttarakhand and higher release of water from the Hathnikund barrage. 'We are constantly monitoring the situation. The reason for the increase in level is mostly due to the high amount of water released from the Hathnikund barrage," an official from the central flood room said. On Wednesday, for the first time this monsoon, water discharge from Haryana's Hathnikund Barrage exceeded the 50,000 cusecs mark, peaking at 61,000 cusecs around 6 AM. The Old Iron Bridge serves as a key observation point for tracking the river's flow and potential flood risks. Water released from the barrage typically takes 48 to 50 hours to reach Delhi. Frances biggest wildfire of summer eclipsed size of Paris, still spreading
Paris, Aug 6 (AP) France's biggest wildfire this summer was spreading quickly Wednesday in a Mediterranean region near the Spanish border after leaving one person dead, authorities said. About 2,000 firefighters and several water bomber aircraft battled the blaze that broke out Tuesday afternoon in the village of Ribaute in the Aude region, a rural, wooded area that is home to wineries. The wildfire remained 'very active" on Wednesday and weather conditions were unfavourable, the local administration said in a statement. One person died in their home, nine others were injured, including seven firefighters, and at least one person was missing, the statement said. The interior ministry said the fire had spread over 13,000 hectares (32,000 acres), an area larger than the French capital. Jacques Piraux, mayor of the village of Jonquières, said all residents have been evacuated. 'It's a scene of sadness and desolation," he told broadcaster BFM TV after he visited Wednesday morning to assess the damage. 'It looks like a lunar landscape, everything is burned.
