Michigan State football names captains for 2025 season

USA Todaya day ago
It might seem crazy, but we are officially less than two weeks away from Michigan State football's opening game against Western Michigan. The second year of the Jonathan Smith era is almost here, and we now know who will be leading the team internally as the team captains. It's an interesting group of players, and the social media team put together an interesting graphic to showcase it.
This year's captains will be:
As I noted above, this is an interesting mix of players for this group. You have one incoming transfer, Matt Gulbin, who is a threat to win the Rimington Trophy for the best center in college football. There is Quinndarius Dunnigan, who will be playing in his seventh season of college football, and his second with the Spartans. Of course, you also have Aidan Chiles, the Spartans' starting quarterback who was also a captain last season.
Next, there is Sam Edwards. Edwards is primarily a special teams player on the field, and off the field, has been known to be one of the leaders of the program and also represents MSU on the NCAA Division I Football Student-Athlete Connection Group. Edwards was also the honorary captain in week one last year.
Finally, there is Jordan Hall, the MSU linebacker who enters his junior year with high expectations this season. It's very intriguing that he is front and center on this graphic. That could be nothing, but it kind of feels like a statement, after Hall spent last season waiting in the wings behind incoming transfer Jordan Turner.
If you are curious about last year's captains, you can see those here.

Michigan State football WR coach Courtney Hawkins breaks down position group amidst camp

Michigan State football is in the midst of camp as it prepares for the 2025 season, and in particularly, the week one showdown with Western Michigan. One thing that has been a constant throughout camp, the wide receiver room is showing out and could be one of the deepest rooms in the conference. A big thanks for constructing, and coaching that room, goes to wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins, who time and time again shows that he is an elite coach at the position group. Hawkins was masterful at building a transfer portal class to go along with retaining Nick Marsh, and it gives MSU fans a ton to be excited about. On Monday, Hawkins was the coach tabbed to speak to the media, where he broke down his position group and spoke about how deep of a group he has, while highlighting the play of some specific players.
