Man wanted for drug possession yields P136-M shabu in Laguna
According to Marisol Abduhrahman's Tuesday report on '24 Oras,' agents of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) were only supposed to serve a warrant of arrest against the suspect when they discovered the 20 kilos of shabu.
'Meron kasi syang pending na case po sa isang RTC dito sa Manila for violation also of 9165, particularly Section 1. That's possession. Nagkataon lang naman ho nung i-implement natin yung warrant of arrest, may nakita din ho dun sa sasakyan ng tao,' said PDEA spokesperson Atty Frederick Calulut.
(The suspect has a pending case in a Manila Regional Trial Court for violation of RA 9165, specifically Section 1, which refers to possession. It just so happened that when we served the warrant of arrest, we found it in his vehicle.)
PDEA also arrested one of the alleged members of the suspect's group.
PDEA said the seizure of the 20-kilo shabu affected the operations of the alleged drug syndicate, especially since there is a shortage of supply in Metro Manila, where the drugs were supposed to be delivered.
'Ang ginagawa ng drug dealers ngayon, hinahaluan ng kemikal ang shabu na binebenta nila. Ang potency o quality ng shabu na binibili ngayon ng mga gumagamit ay less than 10% pa,' Calulut said.
(Drug dealers mix the shabu they are selling with other chemicals, and the potency or quality of the shabu in the market is less than 10%.)
The suspects are under the custody of the PDEA. They gave only brief denials when confronted with the accusation.
PDEA is still looking for the other members of the suspect's group, who were supplying shabu in Metro Manila. –Mariel Celine Serquiña/NB, GMA Integrated News

5 students arrested for being alleged source of ‘tuklaw' in Puerto Princesa
Authorities arrested five students who were the alleged source of 'tuklaw' or black cigarettes that were used by three youngsters and caused seizures in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. According to Jun Veneracion's report in '24 Oras' on Thursday, the suspects arrested in a buy-bust operation were aged between 19 to 25. 'Ito kasing nahuli natin is the identified source of the tuklaw na may synthetic cannabinoid nga dito sa Puerto Princesa,' said Police Col. Cristine Tabdi, Puerto Princesa City Police Station acting director. (These people we arrested were identified as the source of tuklaw containing synthetic cannabinoid here in Puerto Princesa.) Aside from synthetic cannabinoid, authorities also seized marijuana from the suspects during the operation. The suspects are now facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. GMA Integrated News is trying to get comments from the suspects. Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said that it is still looking for other suspects behind the proliferation of 'tuklaw' in the country. 'Marami pa ang ating tinitingnan na mga tao at sisiguraduhin nating na hindi ito maglipana pa,' said PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III. (We are looking into several individuals and we will make sure that these will no longer proliferate.) The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency earlier said that the synthetic cannabinoid found in the 'tuklaw' puffed by several individuals in separate incidents in Quezon City and Palawan caused their seizures. Investigation by the PNP showed that 'tuklaw' is being sold by the suspects online. One milliliter of synthetic cannabinoid is being sold for P300. But the police are still investigating where the suspects get their supply, the report said. 'May mga illicit trading routes na tinitignan natin na maaring pinagdadaanan ng mga substance na ito,' said Torre. (We are looking into illicit trading routes where these substances pass through.) Further, the PNP warned minors from trying 'tuklaw' and other illegal drugs. 'Walang mabuting idudulot sa inyo 'yan. Ang bottomline lang diyan, wala pa akong nakitang adik na maganda at gwapo….Tignan niyo ang before and after, artista napakaganda, na-adik, tignan mo itsura,' said Torre. (It will not do you anything good. The bottomline here is I haven't seen any addicts who look good…Just look at the before and after of celebrities, an actress used to be beautiful but she changed after becoming an addict.) — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BAP, GMA Integrated News

(They reportedly experienced abuse from their house parents and the pastor. 'Yung sa paa po, tatlo po kami,' he said, adding that the chains used on them were thicker than the chains used on dogs. (They tied the three of us in the legs.) The DSWD Field Office Central Luzon turned the children over to another DSWD facility in Lubao to undergo counseling. Social workers are currently processing and reviewing their profiles to check on which center could take care of them, the report said. Meanwhile, an American pastor, who serves as the director of the orphanage, is facing charges for violation of the Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation, and Discrimination Act. 'Wala naman katotohanan sa allegation, ayun lang po. Kung gusto niyo ng buong comment ko, willing ko sabihin ang mahabang comment,' the pastor said. (The allegations are not true. If you want my full comment, I can give you a longer one.) The police said it will coordinate with the Bureau of Immigration.
