ITV viewers break down in tears at new show hailed 'television at its best' - begging bosses for 'another series and longer episodes'
ITV viewers have broken down in tears at a new show hailed 'television at its best' - and have begged bosses for 'another series and longer episodes'.
The Assembly, which hit our screens last weekend (April 26), sees a number of celebrities questioned by a group of people who are autistic, neurodivergent and/or learning disabled.
The programme has already seen actors Danny Dyer and David Tennant get quizzed, and Little Mix 's Jade Thirlwall and Gary Lineker will be grilled later on in the series.
It has received rave reviews since it aired and many have flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their thoughts.
One said: 'Just watch #TheAssembly with Danny dyer what a fantastic show, I ended up crying my eyes out, very emotional but fantastic questions it was great.'
'Just finished watching The Assembly. Unbelievable television. Heartwarming, and honest from beautiful people. Danny Dyer and David Tennant are superb, the singing is superb, loved every minute.'
'This show better be renewed and for longer episodes and a longer run. It's so heartwarming and television at its best.'
'Watching #TheAssembly on ITVX, wow what a brilliant idea with no questions off limit and I'm sure the celebrities got as much out of it as the interviewers. Hope they make more episodes.'
'Anybody watch #TheAssembly on STV (ITV I suppose) bloody hell.. I'm a blubbering wreck.'
'I have just watched #TheAssembly and I was crying my eyes out, so emotional, what a great programme, what I love about you is you are honest and what you see is what you get, I wish more people in the media were like that! Now let's see what Mr Tennant's is like.'
'What a series. One episode after the other- original, challenging, creative and emotional. Leaves you feeling wanting more.'
'OMG how beautiful is The Assembly? Unmissable uplifting television. 10/10.'
ITV's official synopsis reads: 'Each episode of The Assembly sees a different celebrity forced to cast aside everything they were ever taught by their media trainers as they face their most honest, funny, chaotic – and heartwarming – interview yet.
'The celebrities on the line-up – to be announced in due course – come from various corners of the showbiz world, and with each of them enjoying illustrious careers in their respective fields, the list of subject matters for our unique collective to explore is endless.
And it has received rave reviews since it aired and many have flocked to X, formerly known as Twitter, to share their thoughts
'No area is out of bounds and no question is off the table. Carefully considered PR fluff won't cut it on this show!'
The Assembly first aired on the BBC and the 30-minute pilot starred Michael Sheen.
But this show is based on the French show Les Rencontres du Papotin, which was created by Kiosco TV and Quad Ten, and is distributed by Can't Stop Media.
Director of Entertainment & Daytime ITV Katie Rawcliffe said of the new show: 'The Assembly is such a distinct, clever and authentic format, and one that we're absolutely thrilled to commission for a full first series for ITV1 and ITVX.
'I can't wait for The Assembly interviewers to ask our brilliant cast of celebrities a plethora of burning questions, which will no doubt make for must watch TV.'
Executive Producers for Rockerdale Studios, Michelle Singer and Stu Richards, added: 'We're absolutely buzzing to be bringing The Assembly to ITV and delighted that, just like us, the team there want to see more of telly's most mischievous cast putting proper famous types under the microscope.
'This show will be funny and naughty and warm and smart and, bloody hell, we've got ourselves all worked up now…
'We just cannot wait to make it.'
It comes after singer Jade - who shot to fame as part of Little Mix on The X Factor in 2011 - admits that she 'sold her soul' for fame as she slammed Simon Cowell on the show.
During her episode, she's asked if she felt as if she had 'sold her soul', to which she replied: 'You've trumped me. Maybe a little bit in the beginning. I was so young and I just signed on the dotted line.
'But as the years have gone by I've learned more and more about the industry
'I've been collecting — a bit like [Marvel superhero] Thanos with the stones — I've been collecting parts of my soul back as I've gained more creative freedom.'
The Assembly airs on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.

Absolutely Everything We Know About British Actor Adam Long
The British actor Adam Long could have a new love interest according to new pictures that are doing the rounds on the internet. In photographs published by The Daily Mail, Adam Long can be seen on what appears to be a coffee date with fellow actor Aimee Lou Wood. In the pictures, they can be seen kissing and hugging outside a cafe in London while enjoying some drinks. You might recognise Long from his role in ITV's 2019 show The Bay, where he played the role of a construction worker called Vincent. But while Adam Long seems to keep a relatively low profile day to day, he's got a whole host of other huge shows under his belt - and plenty of exciting projects in the pipeline. Adam Long is a British actor, who is most well known for his role as Lewis Whippey in Happy Valley. He also starred in Dunkirk, Spike Island, Vera, Waterloo Road, The Thirteenth Tale, Act Of Grace and the award winning TV drama Don't Take My Baby. In 2019, he was in two movies called The Kill Team and The Corrupted. Adam was born on 25 April 1991, making him 34 years old. Neither Aimee or Adam have commented on their relationship status, but rumours are flying thanks to the recent pictures. Both Aimee and Adam star in the upcoming BBC romantic comedy-drama Film Club, which will air later in 2025, and online reports have noted that Aimee has liked all of Adam's social media posts since their casting was announced last November. Aimee also praised Adam after he completed a sponsored run in aid of Movember and men's mental health awareness. Under a picture he shared on Instagram, Aimee wrote 'YOU DID IT!!!!!!!' It's believed Adam met Aimee while working on the upcoming BBC series. Fittingly, the two of them play an on-screen couple in the show. Now, rumours that the pair are an item are ramping up off-screen too. A source who spotted her with Adam in South London told The Sun: 'They looked smitten with one another. They were hugging and kissing and she kept draping her arm around his neck while his hand was on her knee. They looked very comfy together — a vision of love's young dream.' Yes! You can keep up to date with all things Adam at @itsadamlong. Yes, Adam Long plays Evie's boyfriend Josh in Film Club. The BBC romantic-comedy drama, which is created by Aimee Lou Wood and Ralph Davies, will air later in 2025. Alongside Adam Long, the show stars Nabhaan Rizwaan and Doctor Foster's Suranne Jones, and filming for it wrapped earlier this year. A BBC synopsis for the show reads: 'It's Friday night. 7pm. Film Club Week 198. Evie hasn't left the house in six months after a 'wobble', and tonight, things are different.' It continues: 'Noa's got big news. A dream job is taking him across the other side of the country, which means that all of this is ending. That reality is hitting. That they're going to be forced to consider for the first time they might be more than just friends. Neither of them are the best when it comes to emotions but this time those emotions might be impossible to ignore...' The synopsis sums up Film Club by describing it as 'witty' and emotional,' show about 'love and family, about whether we should follow our hearts or heads, and being in love with a friend.'

Loose Women star says she 'always loathed it' as she slams ITV show over one major issue
One Loose Women icon has called out ITV bosses for enforcing one rule during her lengthy stint on the show which used to make her 'shudder'. Loose Women star Carol McGiffin has slammed ITV bosses for their approach to styling the programme's presenters. The 64-year-old expressed how she did not agree with the enforced dress codes and claimed that the presenters transitioned from wearing what they wanted, to being instructed on what to wear for coordination. She also voiced concerns regarding the amount of clothing waste, alleging that some garments were thrown away even if they'd only been worn once. Carol previously had two stints on Loose Women, first from 2000 until 2013, and then again from 2018 until 2023. In an article for Best UK, she said: "I did Loose Women for almost 20 years and the mandated dress codes used to exhaust me. "We went from wearing our own clothes to being bought stuff to adhere to ludicrous wardrobe policies like 'no arms on show', presumably because our ageing biceps were morphing into bingo wings. I always loathed being 'dressed' or 'styled' as they preferred to call it. "You always had to be coordinated up to the eyeballs in nice slacks, wrap dresses or boiler suits. "It used to make me shudder, nearly as much as the insane amount of waste on unimaginable amounts of clothes that had mostly only been worn once". This is not the first time Carol has spoken negatively about Loose Women in recent years, the Mirror reports. In a conversation with Woman's Own last year, she opened up on her reasons for leaving and her feelings regarding her career move. She said: "I don't regret leaving, I don't fit in there anymore." Her bold remarks mirror a past statement she made to OK! magazine while speaking about the show. She previously said: "Someone, somewhere will be offended by absolutely everything. "I'd rather not be on a show that panders to that. It's boring – and I won't be told what I can or can't say." While she has now parted ways with the show, and has little good to say about her former ITV role, Carol remains in touch with some of her former co-stars. Although she shares warmer relationships with a select handful of them. She explained: "I'm still very good friends with a lot of the Loose ladies... Denise Welch popped down here with Lincoln [Townley, her husband] last year and we met them for lunch. "I've seen Kaye [Adams], Jane [Moore] and Nadia [Sawalha] a few times." Carol addressed those she does no longer speak to, saying: "Some, I have nothing in common with. "As I said to them, 'You're not friends, you're just people I work with, who I really like.' Which horrified them."

Shamed football pundit Jermaine Jenas is axed from this year's Soccer Aid ITV coverage after sexting scandal
ITV have axed Jermaine Jenas from this year's Soccer Aid coverage in the wake of the ex-England midfielder's sexting scandal. Insiders have told MailOnline Jenas 'was not considered' to feature as part of the punditry team for this Sunday's televised charity match, despite being a regular in recent years. ITV bosses took the decision after Jenas, 42, was fired for sending inappropriate messages to female employees during his time at the BBC. The sexting scandal also cost Jenas his 13-year marriage after his wife Ellie, the mother of three of his four children, announced the pair were divorcing earlier in March. The insider said: 'ITV thought long and hard about the decision but believe it's the right move. 'Given Soccer Aid has such a charity angle they felt uneasy about bringing unwanted attention onto the match by including Jenas in the coverage so soon after his controversies. 'They still maintain a good relationship with him but they're looking to refresh the pundits this year with a mixture of new and returning faces across celebrities, footballers and pundits.' In previous years, Jenas has worked alongside Love Island Maya Jama as part of the match coverage, with Dermot O'Leary and Alex Scott taking on hosting duties. Jenas, 42, was fired for sending inappropriate messages to female employees during his time at the BBC ITV has now followed the BBC and Jenas 'was not considered' to feature as part of the punditry team for this Sunday's televised charity match The presenters have once again been confirmed for this year's match, between England and The Rest of the World, which will see Wayne Rooney and Tyson Fury co-managing the Three Lions at Manchester United's Old Trafford stadium this Sunday. Former Manchester United and Denmark goalkeeper Peter Schmeical is managing the Rest of the World X1. Proceeds go towards UNICEF, which has already received £106million from Soccer Aid since it was created by Robbie Williams in 2006. Losing his regular Soccer Aid gig comes five months after Mailonline also revealed Jenas was axed as presenter of Formula E. He previously served as the lead presenter on TNT Sports. Jenas, who also has a daughter from a previous relationship, was sacked by the BBC in August, which resulted in him losing his hosting gig on The One Show and punditry work on both Match of the Day and 5 Live. The BBC confirmed their decision while he was on air guest hosting talkSPORT's drive time show. His agency MC Saatchi also cut ties with him before he brought in a crisis PR team to handle the aftermath of the scandal. Jenas revealed he lied to wife Ellie during a family holiday in order to sneak off and take a Zoom call with BBC bosses after news of his X-rated messages was first revealed within the broadcaster. And he also told how she had kicked him out of their £1million home in Hertfordshire after he admitted sending inappropriate messages to two female colleagues. Speaking to the Filthy Rellas podcast last month, Jenas claimed historical problems within the relationship also contributed to the break up. He said: 'The reality is, me and my wife haven't split up because I sent some text messages to some people at work. 'We had issues for a period of time, it all comes to a head and you eventually make a decision to say, as adults, we will be better parents for our children if we just remain friends and that's it. 'We had 16 amazing years together, me and my wife, how many people last that long? Sixteen years. Ups and downs. She caught the wrong end of my [playing] career, bless her.' During an interview with The Sun shortly after he was sacked by the BBC, Jenas admitted his wife was 'raging' over the incident. He said: 'We've not really spoken properly since. She's absolutely raging.' Jenas continued: 'It's just about the children right now. It's the school holidays and they're trapped in the house because photographers are outside my house. 'They're like, 'What's going on, Daddy?'. It's tough.' He added: 'I've got to take responsibility and I've apologised to all of them. 'I don't know what to say about that, to be honest with you. 'It's just hard at home for the kids right now. My wife's a real one 'My wife is solid and she's amazing. She is kind. She just needs some time.' During the interview, Jenas insisted Ellie should not fear more women coming out of the woodwork with tales of further inappropriate behaviour. However, weeks after the scandal broke, Mailonline revealed Jenas bombarded a woman working at the World Cup in Qatar two years ago with unwanted messages asking 'You want my boy now?' before sending her a picture of his manhood, despite her making clear she was not interested in his advances. The following week, we also told how he repeatedly pestered a junior make-up artist for sex - and when she told him she had a boyfriend replied: 'Just come to my dressing room early and I'll [perform a sex act] on u… that's not cheating.' That incident took place when he was working for BT Sport in 2017, where he was a rising star as a football pundit. Jenas has managed to find work with TalkSPORT, who triggered his media comeback in February as part of the station's FA Cup coverage. But his appointment reportedly sparked serious unrest at the station, as many staff members refused to work with him. MailOnline revealed other colleagues were left 'stunned' by his signing, but talkSPORT still pushed ahead with the move and even gave him a platform to once again express his sorrow for his past behaviour. He said: 'The biggest thing in this whole situation is about taking responsibility and that has been at the forefront of my mind. 'You need to take responsibility for your actions. There's a reason why you're in this position, and there's a reason why this has happened. 'Once you kind of accept those things, then you can work on yourself and you can work on the other things, and you can work on your family and work towards a brighter future. 'I'm very grateful to talkSPORT for giving me the opportunity to come talk to yourself and get back to doing what I love most. This is about me looking inwards, making some improvements and coming back a better person.' Meantime, Soccer Aid host O'Leary, 52, has revealed he still gets nervous about fronting the showpiece - as he treats the fixture like a 'proper football match'. Asked what he enjoys about Soccer Aid, he said: 'The half-time moments for me, because you have these special moments, it's a laugh and you're watching a game of football and you're seeing goals, and it's all very exciting. 'We treat it like a proper football match and then you get those moments, you know, there's a lot of levity in there, and then you get these proper stop and think moments, whether that's James Nesbitt or Robbie Williams doing something powerful for UNICEF. 'Being out here last year, I was more nervous about doing that than I was doing the first opening of the show. 'Yeah, but those are really very special moments.'
