Why Alfie Davis is confident he can exploit Gadzhi Rabadanov in PFL 9 final

USA Today21 hours ago
Alfie Davis sees a kink in Gadzhi Rabadanov's armor – especially in five-round fights.
Davis (19-5-1) meets Rabadanov (26-4-2) in Friday's 2025 PFL World Tournament 9: Finals headliner (ESPN, ESPN+) at Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte, N.C. The last time Rabadanov tasted defeat was in a five-round decision loss to Mehdi Dakaev in December 2020. Davis took a lot from that fight.
"I definitely went back to when he lost because although he's been on a bit of a streak, I think people just stylistically and tendencies are still the same," Davis told MMA Junkie Radio. "Even myself, I still have tendencies and stuff that I do when I first started kickboxing. I just think your body is designed in certain ways. So, I definitely looked at his last loss, and it was a five rounder. So, he got exploited in that one when he lost in the five rounder.
"He got tired. His style of boxing didn't really lend to the style that this guy was using, so I watched that. Also, I've been watching even his recent wins. Some of them, he's had some edgy moments, like particularly his fight against J.J. Wilson. He nearly lost that fight. There were some other fights where they were quite close, and he's made some stuff that I feel like I can exploit."
Davis has surprised many with his route to the finals by taking out veterans Clay Collard and Brent Primus. He understands how life changing the $500,000 can be but insists that winning a world title has more value to him.
"I keep pinching myself, and I'm like, wow, if I win this money, it's mad what it can do for me and my family," Davis said. "But equally I've got a job to do, and I think winning the title and what that represents will mean more to me. I've always had this inclination that I'm going to earn a lot of money in my life. I feel like I work hard, I educate myself.
"So, I feel like it's only a matter of time before I earn a lot of money. But there's not a lot of time where you become a world champion. I've got a certain window where I can do that. So, the money is a big deal, don't get me wrong, but it's more about me performing and showing what I've been working so hard on for so many years."

Terrell Davis likes 'significant upgrade' Broncos made at running back

Denver Broncos legend Terrell Davis knows a thing or two about toting the football; he earned a gold jacket from it. And he's excited about the Broncos' 2025 running back room. "I like it so far," said Davis, who spoke with Broncos Wire at Bank of America's 'Golf With Us' event on Monday. "J.K. Dobbins -- watching him last year and then knowing what he brings -- he's a physical running back; he's a guy that breaks a lot of tackles, gets a lot of yards after contact. So bringing him into the fold was, already in my opinion, an upgrade. "Then you go in and you draft (RJ) Harvey. The potential that he has, he reminds me a little of Darren Sproles; everybody says that, but he's kind of a scatback or you can use him not only in the backfield, but anytime you have a back that has flexibility, you could put them out and run routes, that's a win." Davis went on to say that the 2025 running backs remind him of what head coach Sean Payton did in New Orleans. "We're kind of seeing this team in the image of Sean Payton; and you can look back at Darren Sproles, think back to Reggie Bush, think back to Mark Ingram," said Davis. "You kind of see that starting to re-emerge, or at least the characteristics of those kind of backs. Again, the proof is in the pudding, but I'm pretty bullish on this backfield and I think what it did too was not only bringing those guys (Dobbins and Harvey), just even watching the preseason game. "I know it's a small sample size, but I just felt the energy was different from that room. You see guys now trying to break tackles, trying to get extra yards which we didn't see last year. So pretty encouraged by that, excited to see what happens. I think that room has had a significant upgrade." The Broncos were middle of the pack (16th in the NFL) in rushing yards in 2024, and the team has not had a 100-yard rusher in a game since the 2022 season. If anyone knows what it takes to have success on the ground in the NFL, it's Davis. It's a good sign for Denver's backfield that the Hall of Famer likes what he's seen from the group so far. Davis, who won two Super Bowls in Denver, spoke to Broncos Wire while promoting an initiative to make golf more accessible for kids through Bank of America's "Golf With Us" campaign. Davis earned NFL MVP and Super Bowl MVP honors during his decorated career, and he's a member of the league's 2,000-yard Club. Social: Follow Broncos Wire on Facebook and Twitter/X! Kansas City Chiefs documentary series 'The Kingdom' releases tonight on ESPN

ESPN, Disney+, and Skydance Sports' The Kingdom, an ESPN Original Series on the Kansas City Chiefs, debuts tonight. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes and head coach Andy Reid recently revealed their thoughts on last season's filming process. "I have seen parts for sure. It's a great documentary. Obviously, the season is part of it, but it's great to see the history of the Kansas City Chiefs, and I saw stuff that I didn't even know. I thought I knew everything about the Kansas City Chiefs." said Mahomes during his training camp press conference, "So, the Hunt family, the Kansas City Chiefs (and) Disney, they all did it the right way and for them to let me be a part of it in some way and some form it was really cool for me. I got to do that after the season, so now we're back to football, but it is cool to see stuff like that done because I have loved documentaries my whole entire life, and so seeing how the bread is buttered is really cool." The highly anticipated six-episode docuseries on the Chiefs will explore the franchise's indelible and distinctive place in the NFL's landscape, spanning more than six decades of history, while offering an exclusive and revealing chronicle of the team's 2024 season. "Well, our owner asked me to do it (laughter). So, I mean, it's not really my deal, but that's, you know, he's my boss. And so, I jumped in on it. So, if I'm going in, I'm going in. I'm going to go all in," said Reid. "I thought the people handled it well. I thought they did a really good job of not being a distraction. I worry about that, and one reason I don't like doing those things. I thought they really handled themselves well, where I didn't have to tell people to get back, get out of here. That's not what it was. So, my hat goes off to them for handling it that way." All six series episodes will be available to stream on ESPN+ and Disney+. The first two episodes will air tonight on ESPN at 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. CT.
