Prince Harry and Meghan Markle suffer jab from Oprah Winfrey over controversial surname

Oprah Winfrey has made a playful jab at her friends Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during a podcast appearance, poking fun at their tongue-twister surname
Oprah Winfrey has taken a playful jab at her friends and neighbours Prince Harry and Meghan Markle during a podcast appearance, mocking their tongue-twister surname. While appearing on Kelly Ripa's Let's Talk Off Camera podcast, Oprah recalled a sweet story about the Sussexes from earlier this year.

During the candid chat, the podcast host asked Oprah if she would enjoy receiving baby chicks as a gift, and she retorted: "I'd run them straight over to the Sussexes" while mispronouncing the royal surname. Oprah then playfully repeated "the Sussexes" while slurring the S sounds together and laughing once again for good measure.

Oprah, who lives close by to the royal couple, recalled rushing over to the Sussexes house on Easter to help them relocate a family of baby ducks that had settled in their garden.
Oprah recounted the wholesome: "I got a call from Harry, Prince Harry, on Easter Saturday. Sorry to bother you, O, but we have a duck problem here."
She retold the story of how Harry insisted he wanted to bring the lost ducks over to Oprah's house, saying: "Our pond is a stream, we don't have a pond, so can we bring the ducks over to your pond?"

Oprah agreed to help but asked Harry to wait because her best friend Gayle King's grandchildren were coming to visit, but Harry insisted they be moved to safety immediately, as she continued: "I said, 'Wait until I can get the kids to come down to the pond so they can see you put the ducks in the pond.' And he goes, "No, we're coming right away, we're coming over!"'
The TV host then describes how Oprah, Harry and Meghan, together tried to chase and collect the mother duck who had "fled" and escaped into the garden.

Oprah has a long history with the Sussexes, famously interviewing them in 2021 after they quit royal life in 2020 and relocated to California. The tell-all interview revealed a series of bombshell allegations against the royal family.
After the famous interview, Oprah spoke with her friend Gayle King and admitted: "I didn't set out to do a 'bombshell' interview – I set out to do an interview, have a conversation that will allow them to tell their story."
Oprah was invited to Harry and Meghan's wedding in 2018 where she first tried to get an interview with Meghan, but was unable to go through with it due to strict royal protocols.
The 2021 interview, which was the first major conversation with Prince Harry and Meghan Markle since they quit their royal duties, received mixed reactions online from royal fans, with many condemning the Sussexes for their allegations against the Firm.

Surf's up, Archie! Prince Harry's son, six, follows in his footsteps as he embraces the California lifestyle and joins a large group of children for a day on the beach and a lesson in wave riding watched by his proud parents

The eldest child of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle is enjoying the quintessential Californian summer as Prince Archie, six, was recently spotted learning how to ride the waves at a popular surf camp. And it appears the young royal is a natural as Harry and Meghan beamed with pride while watching their son take part in a talent show organised by the surf school - after mingling with fellow parents of budding surfers last Friday. A video posted by Surf Happens, the Santa Barbara-based surfing institute that Archie is seemingly enrolled at, showed the six-year-old dressed in an orange t-shirt with the school's logo on it and a wetsuit. He could be seen showing off his dance moves on the beach while a large group of his peers cheered enthusiastically for Archie in the clip that also showed Meghan - dressed in a casual beach-ready outfit - on her phone. Harry, meanwhile, enjoyed a laugh with some of the other fathers present for the outing that was organised by Surf Happens at Santa Claus Beach in Carpinteria, just outside Santa Barbara. According to its website, the surf school was founded in 2000 and gives its students the opportunity to 'experience the spirit of Aloha and the lifestyle of surfing' as it organises lessons and camps for 'all ages and stages'. It is described as 'Santa Barbara's premier surf school' that offers year-round private and group classes while also running surf camps - as it appears that Prince Archie was part of the most recent batch for children between the ages of four and 17. He appeared carefree and excited for his turn in the spotlight as Archie - who seems to be following in his father's footsteps - performed during the school's talent show alongside 'happy campers' while Meghan and Harry watched from the sidelines. Earlier this year, the Duke of Sussex - who is an avid surfer himself - was spotted at a surf school with Archie, then five, in a since-deleted photograph. The image showed the Duke of Sussex wearing a black wetsuit alongside Archie on a jet ski in California. The photo was uploaded as part of an Instagram reel by professional surfer Raimana Van Bastolaer and taken at surfing star Kelly Slater's Surf Ranch in Lemoore. But the image was later removed from the reel, which the surf coach captioned: 'Don't hate but be happy & keep smiling. Brother HARRY, Let's go for 2025!' Other photos which remained in the reel included a selection of Harry riding a wave, one of him smiling with his board and another posing with Van Bastolaer. On Friday, the Sussexes looked worlds away from their royal selves as Meghan was dressed casually in a pair of denim shorts with a black tank top. She threw on a white linen shirt and a wide-brimmed hat as the sun shone brightly on the family's beach day. Harry also opted for a comfortable outfit, with the father-of-two seen wearing black shorts and a T-shirt with a khaki-coloured cap and sunglasses as he watched Archie participate in the surfing school's talent show. Their beach outing last week came just days ahead of Meghan's 44th birthday, which is on August 4. One day ahead of her birthday, mother-of-two Meghan took to Instagram to post a teaser for her lifestyle brand As ever. In a short video, she was shown carrying a wicker basket filled with flowers and bottles of As Ever Napa Valley rosé laid in white linen. While Meghan's face did not feature in the video, it showed her wearing a short white dress as she frolicked in the grass, thought to be at her Montecito estate near Santa Barbara, California. She showed off her stack of rings on her left ring finger, including her engagement ring, wedding ring and an infinity ring, estimated to be worth around £210,000. She also wore a gold Cartier Love Bracelet, which costs up to £7,050, and a gold Cartier Tank Watch that once belonged to Princess Diana, both of which she regularly wears. The clip later showed a view of Meghan's swinging feet as she sits atop a stone garden wall, clad in £720 tan-coloured Hermes Santorini sandals. The words 'Coming soon...' appeared over the video to tease the launch of her new 2024 Napa Valley Rosé. Shared on the official As Ever Instagram page last night, the caption read: 'Goodness in a glass. Right around the corner... Cheers to August!' Meghan's latest post comes after she announced another product coming to her As Ever line - although some of her customers were baffled as to what was actually new. The Duchess launched her lifestyle brand As ever earlier this year, releasing the first products in April, which included a range of teas, a raspberry spread, and a limited-edition wildflower honey with honeycomb, amongst other things. She followed it up with an apricot spread and another honey, and in July, she expanded into the world of alcohol when she dropped her own wine - the 2023 Napa Valley Rosé. Each release has been met with fierce excitement from her fans, and every product has sold out pretty quickly. Now, the Duchess of Sussex 's brand has announced its newest product... but it might not garner the same amount of enthusiasm since it's not very different from her last item. The company revealed on Wednesday that following the buzz surrounding the 2023 Napa Valley Rosé, it will be launching another wine, with a slight tweak - calling it the 2024 Napa Valley Rosé. And it vowed that it will pretty much taste the same as As Ever's first wine. 'It marries the same harmony of notes from our first blend and creates an elegant medley of delicate yet memorable flavor,' reads a press release. 'You'll want to clink glasses with friends as the sun sets, toasting to a summer of joy. 'Barefoot or in sandals, dressed up or dressed down, this rosé may become your favorite accessory for alfresco lunches and dinners at dusk.' In the release, As Ever listed some of the positive feedback customers had given the company over its first rosé. This included comments like, '10 out of 10,' 'perfect,' and 'elevated flavor'. 'This affirmed all of the love, time and effort our team, and our founder, poured into curating this blend to evoke the sun drenched spirit of Napa Valley, and the breathtaking tenor of the California Coast,' As Ever added. 'Thank you for filling our cup. Now it's time for us to fill your glass! We are pleased to share that our 2024 Napa Valley Rosé will be available for purchase next week.' The brand also posted to Instagram with a series of images showing the new wine resting in beach sand. It was uploaded alongside a caption that read: 'Oh, how we love seeing the world through rose colored glasses. Rosé colored glasses? Perhaps even better. Our new vintage of As Ever's beloved rosé is available next week. 'Stay tuned for more details and timing.' As Ever's first wine went on sale on July 1 and sold out within the hour. Customers were able to purchase three bottles for $90, six bottles for $159, and 12 bottles for $300. Last month, Daily Mail exclusively revealed that the alcoholic beverage is made by Fairwinds Estate, a California winery that creates bespoke wines for celebrities. The 2023 Napa Valley Rosé is described on the bottle as a 'delicately balanced rosé with soft notes of stone fruit, gentle minerality, and a lasting finish.' It has a 14.5 percent alcohol by volume for the 750ML bottle. The Daily Mail FEMAIL team tried the rosé and while the wine was smooth, we couldn't easily detect the notes of stone fruit. In fact, it tasted quite bland, and almost water-y. In addition, the rosé had some acidic notes, leaving a somewhat uncomfortable sensation at the back of our throats after swallowing. In the end, the verdict was the wine lacked flavor and tasted affordable and ordinary. It wasn't terrible - but it certainly wasn't great. We felt the rosé just didn't taste like you bought it at a fancy vineyard, where it's supposed to be made, but rather, like a wine you would be served at a work happy hour. The FEMAIL team also reviewed her initial set of products, and found that Meghan's raspberry spread was too thin, too sweet, and very runny. Her hibiscus tea was extremely bitter with heavy notes of floral, with one taste tester comparing it to 'drinking lip balm.' 'It tasted like dirty dishwater,' another FEMAIL writer shared. Some of us couldn't even bear to swallow it, as one person even spat it back into the cup.

Meghan Markle's birthday 'gimmick' quietly shelved after major mistake

Meghan Markle launched a birthday campaign in 2021 to help women get back to work after the pandemic, but the project fizzled out almost as quickly as it began Meghan Markle is celebrating her 44th birthday today, and is likely spending the day quietly celebrating at home with her husband Prince Harry, and their two children Archie and Lilibet. ‌ While this year's birthday is a lowkey affair for the Sussexes, Meghan's milestone 40th birthday in 2021 was a different story. To celebrate the day, Meghan launched an online initiative to help women get back to work after the height of the pandemic. ‌ The launch of the project came alongside an online video starring Melissa McCarthy, and a cameo from Prince Harry. However, the project was quietly shelved after it never got off the ground. It comes after Prince Harry's devastating loss in royal rift was exposed as Meghan 'holds the cards'. ‌ The project was titled '40x40', with Meghan asking 40 of her famous friends to commit 40 minutes of their time to mentor and support women as they re-entered the workforce. Meghan then hoped to create a domino effect of counselling wider than her circle. But soon after the Archewell campaign went live, there was radio silence from the Duchess of Sussex, and the project was quietly shelved. ‌ With the ambitious project disappearing behind the scenes, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told the Daily Mail that he believes the initiative was nothing more than a 'gimmick' designed to "boost Meghan's appeal". Fitzwilliams said that part of the appeal of the project, other than it being a unique way to celebrate Meghan's 40th birthday, was the fact that she had many famous faces onboard to promote gender equality. ‌ Some of the names tied to the project were Adele, Melissa McCarthy, Princess Eugenie, Stella McCartney and Serena Williams. However, Fitzwilliams said that the A-list names were not enough to get the 'poorly organised' project off the ground. The royal expert said: 'There was never any clear idea of how it would be funded or how exactly it would be beneficial to spend just 40 minutes with someone. It was clearly just a gimmick designed to boost Meghan's appeal, which she may have overestimated both then and now." Fitzwilliams added that as part of the 40x40 project, "Meghan recommended 'time spent in service to others', a topic about which she knows very little, though she did, as a senior working royal, have the chance to serve and didn't last long in it." ‌ The royal commentator believes that Meghan's failed birthday initiative started a pattern of behaviour of the Duchess under-delivering with her projects. He cited Meghan's Netflix series titled With Love, Meghan, which failed to crack into the top 300 shows on the streaming giant. He also mentioned Meghan's podcast, Confessions of a Female Founder, which has been shelved at the end of the first season. While the podcast will be returning at some time in the future, Meghan said she is focusing on other projects right now.

'If Prince Harry had whacked his Uncle Andrew, we'd all think better of him for it'

Prince Harry says he never punched his Uncle Andrew. Fleet Street Fox thinks it's an opportunity missed Picture the scene: a gilded corridor, the back seat of an armoured Rolls Royce, or perhaps while perusing the breakfast kippers at a highly-shined table groaning with silverware. ‌ In the red-haired corner, Prince Harry, Duke of Taking Offence. Opposite him stands Prince Andrew, the Duke of Being As Offensive As Possible. And at stake in this clash of purposeless privilege, a chance to claim the crown as The Spare The World Could Most Easily Spare. ‌ Words were exchanged, or maybe not. Punches were thrown, claims a Royal author, although that seems unlikely between two soft-handed manbabies more inclined to call lawyers. And Andrew was left with "a bloody nose" after "Harry got the better" of him, which sounds about as realistic as suggesting one pebble outwitted a different pebble. ‌ Never mind the daftness of it all. Prince Harry's reps have let it be known no such confrontation ever took place. In one self-defeating PR masterclass, the Spare Who Cares has put more of a dent in his own reputation, and we've all been denied the fun of picturing blood spurting from the nose of Not My Handsy Andy. Because if Harry had socked it to the man who has done more to wreck the Royal Family's reputation than Meghan's Oprah interview, Fergie's toe-sucking, Prince Phillip's gaffes, and Princess Diana being in the orbit of Mohammed al Fayed all rolled into one, there's no-one would think any the less of him for it. In fact, he'd probably earn new fans, some of them Royal. ‌ The nation's patience with Prince Andrew has been running on empty for decades, with questionable property deals, friendships, and Wikileaks reports about a trade envoy who seems to have done more to damage Britain's reputation than enhance it. Throw in a disputed trip to Pizza Express in Woking and images of him behaving "if anything, too honourably" by flying to New York to tell a convicted paedophile they couldn't be friends any more, and Prince Andrew is arguably the one spare we could have done without. It's not like Edward doesn't need the work. And while of COURSE bopping each other on the nose is no way to behave and violence must never be condoned, it's hard not to think that the occasional clip round the ear might not make princes more impressive people. The government is, after all, telling us today to be "more resilient". For us that may mean stockpiling batteries and spam, because we already know what a hard knock feels like. For these two princes, though, resilience seems to be as much of a second thought as how to empty a vacuum cleaner, or wondering who combs the gravel. ‌ Henry I was a spare as well, educated in Latin and never meant to be king. When his older brother William Rufus died in a freak hunting accident, the younger brother left his corpse on the forest floor and hightailed it to seize the Royal Treasury. His ruthlessness cannot be unrelated to the fact the Royal Family was only one generation away from illegitimacy, and the crown was by no means safe. The Wars of the Roses saw cousins grabbing and losing the crown, murdering and massacring thousands. The eventual winner, one Henry Tudor, is the most likely culprit for the murder of his own two young nephews and rivals, the Princes in the Tower. If a minor Welsh landowner wants to be Royal, he'll fight anyone for it. ‌ And the most famous spare of all went on, after his brother's early death, to marry the widow, enrich himself by smashing the monasteries, murder two wives, ruin the lives of three more, and only let Anne of Cleves have some peace and quiet because he thought her too fugly to bother with. Henry VIII was a monster, and Anne Boleyn was his Meghan Markle. It's not uncommon for Henrys to be a bit fighty. Nor is it unheard of for them to be spares who grab what power they can. It's highly likely, though, that if Henrys I to VIII knew their latest iteration had moved to California and decided to become a mental health advocate, they would raise a Royal eyebrow. So if our current version of the prodigal son had given his rotten uncle a taste of Windsor knuckle, it would be both unsurprising and sort-of fulfilling - it is what younger brothers are for, especially in this family. Battered by criticism and searching for relevance, if Harry had been able to show that he could see as clearly as we do what Prince Andrew is and deserves, he'd be resonating with the public in the same way as Henry V at Agincourt. The problem with modern princes is they grew up without risk. If they fell out of a tree, someone would chop it down. If they hurt themselves, three servants would fix it. They click their fingers, and the gravel combs itself. In the stables at Sandringham is a battery-powered replica of James Bond's Aston Martin DB5, gifted to Andrew by the car company after Dr No came out. It has hand-tooled leather seats and a rotating number plate. How can any boy with a childhood like that grow up NOT to be begging for some sort of comeuppance? Harry himself might be less of a whiner if someone had told him bluntly that in The Firm it takes an act of God to get promoted, so he'd better start praying or get a proper job. Sometimes the right thing to do is the one thing nobody dares to do, and in this case a punch might have done more than land a well-deserved wallop. It might have restored a bit of faith that the Windsors actually know which way is up.
