Blumenthal, officials warn Connecticut travelers to check passports for validity
It can also cost travelers thousands of dollars.
New traffic pattern at Tweed-New Haven airport aims to reduce congestion
Sanatana Edmonds with the agency is urging people to 'check your passports to ensure six months of validity left on them.'
Officials say several destinations in Europe, the Middle East and Asia require a person's passport to be valid for three to six months after their departure or entry date.
It's not only countries, according to Blumenthal. He says some airlines also follow the rule.
'They'll look at your passport and they'll say 'we can't let you on the plane,'' he said. 'We've seen people lose money, but more heartbreak.'
In addition to checking your documents and renewing your passport if necessary, you can visit travel.state.gov to see your passport's validity for your destination.
Blumenthal's office will be hosting Passport Day on Thursday from 12-7 p.m. at 90 State House Square in Hartford. Staff will assist individuals with renewals, first-time passport applications, and TSA PreCheck enrollment.

Southwest Airlines will begin serving St. Thomas in early 2026. The airline has yet to provide further details, including specific routes, or even how many routes it will fly to the U.S. Virgin Islands locale. A launch date has also not yet been set as the airline awaits regulatory approvals, but Southwest said tickets will be available for purchase soon. St. Thomas will be Southwest's first new destination since November 2021, when it launched what turned out to be short-lived service to Syracuse, N.Y. The airline is also teasing that it will announce two more new destinations over the course of the summer. In the Caribbean, Southwest currently flies to Aruba, the Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Turks and Caicos.

Travelers Can Fly This Brand-new Premium Economy Cabin on Flights from Texas—Here's How
EVA Air is about to make getting to Taiwan a whole lot more comfortable with plans to introduce its redesigned premium economy seats on the soon-to-launch new route from Dallas to Taiwan. The premium seats will be available on flights between Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE) when it launches in October, EVA Air shared with Travel + Leisure . This will mark the first time the Taiwanese airline will fly its revamped premium economy cabin in the United States after revealing it earlier this year. The new cabin configuration features 28 seats in a 2-3-2 layout with a cradle-style recline design to maximize personal space. Each seat has a 15.6-inch HD touchscreen, a 42-inch seat pitch, adjustable tray tables specially designed to fit digital devices, and privacy panels (a lifesaver, especially on long-haul flights). The airline has also introduced sustainable amenities, including eco-friendly double-sided blankets and bamboo fiber napkins to compliment its luxurious velvet slippers and gourmet snacks. EVA Air famously first introduced premium economy to its cabins in 1992. 'This product evolution reflects our commitment to providing passengers with greater comfort and convenience, while addressing growing demand for a more spacious and refined long-haul travel experience," Andrew Su, the executive vice president of EVA Air North America, said in a statement shared with T+L. "Dallas-Fort Worth is a vibrant hub with strong business and cultural ties to Asia, making it a fitting location to debut this upgraded offering.' When the new route launches, it will make EVA Air the first Asian carrier to serve two cities in Texas, complimenting its current route from Houston, according to the airline. Initially, EVA Air will operate the Dallas route three times per week on a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft before increasing to five times per week starting Nov. 18 and expanding to daily service on Dec. 15. EVA Air celebrates Taiwan on its flights, offering fare from beloved soup dumpling institution Din Tai Fung in its business class cabins on flights from Taipei to several U.S. cities, including Seattle, Houston, and Los Angeles. The airline also earned top honors at this year's Skytrax World Airline Awards when it was named the cleanest airline in the world as well as lauded for having the best economy class onboard catering. Beyond Texas, EVA Air operates flights to several other North American destinations, including Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Seattle, Toronto, and Vancouver.

Zion Canyon Hot Springs just opened near Zion National Park with over 50 geothermal pools inspired by global destinations. It was built to revive public access to the area's healing waters and create a top-tier hot springs retreat in the U.S. can now soak in Iceland, Japan, and New Zealand—all in the Utah desert. Just minutes from the towering sandstone cliffs of Zion National Park, an unexpected wellness oasis has emerged in the quiet town of La Verkin, Utah. The newly opened Zion Canyon Hot Springs is bringing over 50 geothermal and mineral-rich pools to the desert plateau, including some that mimic the healing waters of faraway destinations like Iceland's Blue Lagoon and the Dead Sea. The pools are fed by the legendary La Verkin Sulphur Springs (aka Pah Tempe) and set against a healing backdrop of crimson canyons and endless sky. Just 30 minutes to the east sprawls Zion National Park, the second most visited U.S. national park in 2024. "It was such an honor to be approached by La Verkin to create this destination and reopen public access to these special waters in recognition of our success launching Iron Mountain Hot Springs in Glenwood Springs, Colorado,' Steve Beckley, co-founder of WorldSprings, said in a press release shared with Travel + Leisure. WorldSprings already operates hot springs in Dallas and the aforementioned facility Glenwood Springs, Colorado, but the new Zion Canyon Hot Springs is its largest property. 'We're excited to open what will be a premier hot springs destination in the U.S. and welcome guests to an oasis where they can relax, rejuvenate, and connect with nature,' Ronald Neumann, the general manager and vice president of Zion Canyon Hot Springs, said in the press release. In addition to providing access to natural hot spring water surrounded by some of the nation's most renowned red-rock views, a day at Zion Canyon Hot Springs is a full-body journey with cold plunges, barrel saunas, an on-site eatery, and a family-friendly freshwater pool. The geothermal pools range between 88 degrees to 104 degrees, with a natural mineral makeup that is said to reduce stress, improve sleep, and enhance recovery. The facility's 16 WorldSprings pools mimic the mineral content of iconic hot springs around the globe, allowing Utah visitors to experience the natural waters of Japan, Guatemala, and New Zealand, among others. Zion Canyon Hot Springs is split into a family and adult-only section. Both sections have natural hot spring pools and barrel saunas, but the family side has a large freshwater pool and a whirlpool, while the adult's side has cold plunges and the 16 WorldSprings-inspired pools. The water is sourced from local natural hot springs that produce around seven million gallons of 107-degree water daily, according to the county water district. Rates for Zion Canyon Hot Springs start at $49 for the adult-only side of the facility and $39 for the family-friendly section. A three-hour reservation to the family section starts at $25 for kids under the age of 13. There are also cabana and towel rentals. For locals, there are season passes with unlimited visits available. Zion Canyon Hot Springs is open daily 7 days per week from 10 a.m to 10 p.m. Read the original article on Travel & Leisure
