Internet slams Jake Paul after Chavez Jr win: Fans call fight ‘staged', say he's turning boxing into a circus

Jake Paul may have added another win to his record, but the internet isn't celebrating. After defeating former world champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr by unanimous decision on Saturday, the YouTuber-turned-boxer is once again facing criticism, with fans calling the bout 'staged' and accusing him of turning professional boxing into a mockery. Despite the win, many are claiming that Paul's rise is doing more harm than good for the sport's credibility.
The fight lacked fire, but Jake Paul kept control
The fight, which took place at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, was billed as Paul's toughest test yet. Chavez Jr, a former WBC middleweight champion and son of a boxing legend, had nothing to lose stepping into the ring.
Paul started strong, landing jabs and clean shots to the body while Chavez Jr barely responded through the early rounds. It wasn't until round three that the Mexican fighter threw any real punches, but even then, Paul remained in control. By the final bell, Paul had cruised to victory on the judges' scorecards with a wide margin: 97-93, 98-92, and 99-91.
Booed in the arena, Paul fires back at critics
Despite the win, Paul was met with boos throughout the fight as chorus that only got louder when the decision was announced. He didn't hold back in his post-fight reaction. 'All the boos are words, and actions speak louder than words, so you can shut the f*** up,' he shouted, before adding, 'That was easy work. I only got hit ten times. I'm him.'

The 28-year-old praised Chavez Jr, 38, as a warrior but insisted that he had dominated the fight and would continue taking on anyone, anywhere.
Fans call the fight 'a circus' and question its legitimacy
Fans, however, weren't convinced. Social media has been flooded with criticism, with many suggesting the fight looked scripted and one-sided from the start. Several users pointed out that Paul continues to fight aging or inactive opponents, calling on him to finally face someone in his own weight class and age bracket.
People saying 'Jake Paul has been great for boxing he's brought a new audience' If your child or teenager first experience with boxing is Jake Paul fighting old people then that's insane damage to your brand https://t.co/qZAd0aCVsn
Chavez Jr had to have been paid off for this fight against Jake Paul because goddamn he not throwing any punches at all and we already into round 4 😭😭 pic.twitter.com/39exCENC5z

BREAKING: I had a better fight with Jake Paul on Thursday than the unwatchable farce that took place tonight. The guy's lining his pockets with buckets of $$$$ - but he's killing boxing with this boring staged bullsh*t against older fighters way past their prime. pic.twitter.com/hdNMxds4EX
The backlash follows his previous high-profile fight against 58-year-old Mike Tyson, which streamed live on Netflix and was widely seen as more spectacle than sport. With this latest win, critics say Paul is less focused on boxing credibility and more on building his personal brand — even if it means turning the sport into what some are calling a "celebrity circus."

Kate Middleton reveals awkward run-in between her dad and Tim Henman at Wimbledon

Wimbledon is one of Kate Middleton's favourite summer events. She's attended the Grand Slam for years. But during one of her earlier visits, she had a moment she still laughs and cringes about. Kate, now 43, spoke about it in a 2017 BBC documentary, Our Wimbledon. It was a funny memory involving her dad, tennis legend Tim Henman, and a small but awkward mix-up. 'My father is not going to appreciate this,' she said in the interview. 'But we were walking past Tim Henman and we had just seen Pete Sampras play.' That's when her dad turned to Henman and said, 'Hi Pete.' 'I was mortified,' Kate said, laughing. According to Hello Magazine, Kate has been a regular at Wimbledon for years. As the royal patron of the All England Lawn Tennis and Croquet Club, she often watches from the Royal Box. She usually goes with Prince William. Sometimes, she brings their kids along too. Prince George and Princess Charlotte have already attended matches. Their younger brother, Prince Louis, hasn't yet - but he's a big fan at home. Kate once said he likes pretending to be a ball boy. Her parents, Carole and Michael Middleton, also enjoy the sport. They've been seen at Wimbledon many times. Despite the Henman blunder, Kate and her dad remain very close. Michael Middleton still joins her at Wimbledon now and then. In 2021, they were seen laughing together and taking part in a Mexican wave, reported Hello Magazine. It's clear Kate inherited her love for tennis from her family. She's also passed that love on to her own children. She's said many times how much the sport means to her. Kate has even played tennis on camera before. She once joined Emma Raducanu for a friendly match during a youth event in London. Wimbledon 2025 starts on June 30. It runs for two weeks. Kate is expected to attend, but her schedule hasn't been confirmed. She usually presents the trophies to the champions. Fans are also curious if any of the royal kids will be with her. George and Charlotte have already made appearances. Many are hoping Louis might make his Wimbledon debut this year. For now, fans are just happy to hear Kate share such a funny, honest story. It's not every day a royal admits to being 'mortified' by their dad - even if it's in the Royal Box. She recalled her dad mistakenly greeting Tim Henman as 'Pete,' confusing him with Pete Sampras. Yes, she's a regular attendee and has often presented trophies at the finals. It's not confirmed, but Louis has yet to make his debut at the tournament.

Reformed OTT Release Date: When and where to watch Elsa Guedj & Éric Elmosnino's French dramedy

Reformed OTT Release Date: If you're in the mood for something meaningful but also a little quirky, Reformed might just be your next binge. This French dramedy, which has quietly made waves in Europe, is finally coming to Indian screens. It drops on JioHotstar from July 9, and honestly, it's a breath of fresh air compared to most of the overdone dramas we see on OTT these days. What is Reformed all about? At the centre of Reformed is Léa, a young woman in her late 20s who's just become a rabbi, yes, a female rabbi in modern-day France. That's already a big deal, but the show doesn't turn her into some perfect, polished saint. She's awkward, unsure, sometimes funny without trying to be, and constantly juggling her duties at the synagogue with her own personal mess- like living with her grumpy atheist dad, or helping people with birth, death, grief, love, and everything in between. The actress playing Léa, Elsa Guedj, is outstanding. In fact, her performance was so good, she won Best Actress at this year's Séries Mania Festival, one of Europe's top TV festivals. The show is loosely based on the life and book of Delphine Horvilleur, who's actually one of the few female rabbis in France. So there's a real-life connection here, which adds to how grounded everything feels. More about Reformed The creators, Noé Debré and Benjamin Charbit, didn't go the preachy route. They've told a very human story that just happens to take place in a Jewish community. Each episode is about 30 minutes, and it gives you real, everyday dilemmas. There's one episode about a boy's circumcision that stirs debate in the community. Another about a terminally ill woman who wants to be cremated, which isn't exactly accepted in Jewish tradition. Reformed's supporting cast includes Éric Elmosnino, Manu Payet, Noémie Lvovsky, Solal Bouloudnine, Anouk Grinberg, Suzy Bemba and Lionel Dray among others.

Bob Vylan's 'Death to IDF' chant at Glastonbury festival: Organizers appalled, Israel asks UK to denounce hateful rhetoric

Rapper Bobby Vylan of rap punk duo Bob Vylan led crowds to chant 'death, death to the IDF' at Glastonbury Festival. Rapper Bobby Vylan of UK punk-rap duo Bob Vylan triggered a major controversy following his Glastonbury Festival performance Friday as he led the crowd to chants of 'Free, free Palestine' and 'Death, death to the IDF. ' The incident has prompted backlash from government officials, the Israeli embassy, and festival organizers, while Avon and Somerset Police have launched an official investigation into possible hate speech or incitement. The chant was broadcast live on BBC iPlayer, prompting widespread criticism from the broadcaster. The BBC later issued a warning for 'strong and discriminatory language' and confirmed the performance would not be made available for streaming on demand. Organizers 'appalled', says Bobby Vylan crossed a line Emily Eavis, Glastonbury's co-organizer, distanced the festival from the remarks, and said the organizers do not condone the chants. 'These comments very much crossed a line. There is absolutely no place at Glastonbury for hate speech.' Festival organizers reiterated their stance against antisemitism and violence, adding that they were reviewing internal processes following the incident. — IsraelinUK (@IsraelinUK) Israel embassy in UK says this is not freedom of speech The Embassy of Israel in the UK issued a statement noting that it is deeply disturbed by the inflammatory and hateful rhetoric. "Freedom of expression is a cornerstone of democracy. But when speech crosses into incitement, hatred, and advocacy of ethnic cleansing, it must be called out—especially when amplified by public figures on prominent platforms," it said. "Chants such as 'Death to the IDF,' and 'From the river to the sea' are slogans that advocate for the dismantling of the State of Israel and implicitly call for the elimination of Jewish self-determination. When such messages are delivered before tens of thousands of festivalgoers and met with applause, it raises serious concerns about the normalisation of extremist language and the glorification of violence," the statement added. UK culture secretary Lisa Nandy demanded an explanation from BBC Director-General Tim Davie, calling the broadcast 'deeply irresponsible.' Health Secretary Wes Streeting described the chants as 'a disgrace.' The Campaign Against Antisemitism announced it would file a formal complaint with the BBC, accusing the network of amplifying an extremist narrative. Avon and Somerset Police confirmed they are reviewing footage from the performance and assessing whether criminal charges may be appropriate under laws governing incitement and hate speech. 'We are aware of footage circulating online and are assessing whether any offences have been committed,' a spokesperson said.
