Chris Robinson
, who appeared on General Hospital and The Bold and the Beautiful, has passed away at 86. His death was posted on Facebook by actor and musician MJ Allen. Allen, who co-starred with Robinson in the 2022 film Just for a Week, said Robinson "peacefully passed in his sleep at his ranch near Sedona, Arizona.
" He went on to say that Robinson had been experiencing heart failure for some time and that it was listed as the official cause of death.
Robinson started his acting career in the early 1960s in roles for The Young Savages and Birdman of Alcatraz, both of which featured Burt Lancaster. In 1967, he landed his first regular series role as Sgt. Alexander "Sandy" Komansky on ABC's military drama 12 O'Clock High, where he appeared during seasons two and three.
Robinson started playing Dr. Rick Webber on General Hospital in 1978, a role he played periodically through 2013. While working on the show, Robinson also became famous for his exposure in a commercial for Vicks Formula 44 cough syrup, in which he said, "I'm not a doctor but I do play one on TV." The catchphrase became a household one.
Robinson was subsequently replaced in the commercial promotion by All My Children actor Peter Bergman due to Robinson's taking part in a tax fraud case.
He returned to General Hospital in 2022. His character, Rick Webber, was killed off the show with a plot where he was beaten to death with a candlestick by Scotty Baldwin, played by Kin Shriner.

Jimmy Kimmel slams CBS' reason for cancelling Stephen Colbert's The Late Show: ‘This is beyond nonsensical'

Ever since CBS cancelled The Late Show hosted by Stephen Colbert, it has sparked major controversy, with talk show hosts including Colbert, Jimmy Kimmel, and Jimmy Fallon openly criticizing both the decision and President Donald Trump. While CBS maintained that the move was 'purely a financial decision' and not politically motivated, the explanation hasn't convinced many. In a recent interview, Kimmel weighed in on the matter. While talking to Variety, Jimmy Kimmel called the decision completely baseless, and the prerogative offered by CBS false. He said, 'I just want to say that the idea that Stephen Colbert's show was losing $40 million a year is beyond nonsensical. These alleged insiders who supposedly analyse the budgets of the shows – I don't know who they are, but I do know they don't know what they're talking about. They seem to only be focused on advertising revenue and have completely forgotten about affiliate fees, which number in the hundreds of millions, probably in total billions, and you must allocate a certain percentage of those fees to late-night shows.' ALSO READ: 'Donald Trump's presidency is so bad, its unbelievable,' says Jimmy Kimmel before sharing plans of moving to Italy He stated that the figures provided to the media are actually proof that this entire episode and its narrative are made up and how studios have an affinity for making up stories. 'It really is surprising how little the media seems to know about how the media works. There's just not a snowball's chance in hell that that's anywhere near accurate. That's all you need to know. Suddenly he's losing $40 million a year? I will tell you, the first 10 years I did the show, they claimed we weren't making any money, and we had five times as many viewers on ABC as we do now. Who knows what's true? All I know is they keep paying us, and that's kind of all you need to know,' said Kimmel. Jimmy Kimmel admitted that network television certainly doesn't possess the same kind of muscle it once did, but he clarified that late-night talk shows aren't a part of that problem. He said, 'Network television is declining. There's no question about that. But more people are watching late-night television than ever before. People are still watching late-night, just in different places. Our monologues get between 2 and 5 million views, sometimes more, every night. Seth Meyers gets 2 million on YouTube alone. We're not even talking about Instagram or the other platforms. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart on a Monday night will get 5 million views.' After CBS cancelled The Late Show, Donald Trump announced that Jimmy Kimmy and Jimmy Fallon were next on the chopping block, and he could replace hosts like Stephen Colbert with random people off the streets. The Late Show began its journey back in 1993 and was hosted by David Letterman. After a short hiatus from television, the show returned in 2015 with Stephen Colbert as the new host, and this season of the show will be its last.

YouTube Or Netflix Could Be The Next Home For Oscars After ABC Contract Ends: Report

Last Updated: Streaming giants like YouTube and Netflix are in the running to host the Oscars after ABC's 2028 contract ends. Could Hollywood's biggest night go digital? Will the 2029 Academy Awards be streaming on YouTube? With ABC's broadcast contract ending in 2028, major streaming and network companies are eyeing the rights to host Hollywood's biggest night. Bloomberg reports that Google-owned YouTube is emerging as a contender alongside Netflix, NBCUniversal, and other media giants. Like Netflix, YouTube has steadily increased its focus on live events. The platform successfully acquired the NFL Sunday Ticket in 2023 and has bid for other major live broadcasts. Meanwhile, ABC has aired the Oscars since 1976, and Disney could still extend its long-standing contract. However, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has reportedly explored alternative options, both as a negotiation tactic and a potential new home for the awards. YouTube's Big Play for Hollywood's Biggest Night Most potential bidders for the Oscars aren't surprising: Disney's ABC, Comcast's NBCUniversal, Netflix, Amazon, and Paramount's CBS all have stakes in live programming or major studio-backed content. But YouTube is the unexpected contender. Sources indicate the platform has inquired about acquiring the rights, signaling a serious move into live entertainment beyond sports and podcasts. Hosting the Oscars would be a bold statement for YouTube. Known primarily for on-demand videos, YouTube would instantly gain global attention by broadcasting a live event watched by millions. The platform's massive reach could inject new energy into the Oscars, which have faced declining ratings in recent years despite occasional spikes, such as the 2025 ceremony—the highest in five years. Hollywood, Streaming, and the Bottom Line While the idea of a YouTube-hosted Oscars may excite fans, it's far from certain. ABC will continue airing the show through 2028, and the Academy is still negotiating. Many bidders can combine broadcast networks with streaming platforms, while several own major studios that prioritise theatrical releases. For now, the Oscars remain a high-profile, though challenging, live event in a changing entertainment landscape. Whether it stays with ABC, moves to Netflix, or takes a digital leap to YouTube, Hollywood's biggest night will continue to evolve—both on TV and online. view comments First Published: August 19, 2025, 00:20 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
