"I told you on my last day, from now on I will be one of you. Yeah, OK. Standing in a black suit is maybe not the best example! But at the weekend, I will try to be part of it as much as you let me.

"And yeah. Let's have the best weekend of our lives... so far. Because loads of great weekends will follow with this wonderful team and this great club. See you. Bye!"

Who is Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal? Liverpool linked with teenager also wanted by Newcastle
Liverpool is reportedly interested in 19-year-old Rennes center-back Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal, as the club continues to consider its defensive options ahead of next season. While Virgil van Dijk is staying put for another two years, there is uncertainty over Ibrahima Konate's future ahead of the expiration of his contract next year, while Joe Gomez is coming back from hamstring surgery and Jarell Quansah has just experienced a regressive campaign. Advertisement The Reds were interested in Dean Huijsen, but he plumped for Real Madrid, and a link has now emerged with another young defender in Ait Boudlal. Liverpool has already signed one defender in Jeremie Frimpong this summer, while Florian Wirtz could also be on the way. READ MORE: Andy Robertson makes Man Utd dig as Liverpool left-back hails Napoli 'king' Scott McTominay READ MORE: Liverpool transfer news LIVE: Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez latest Liverpool and Newcastle are both said to be interested in the player, and while Newcastle has reportedly met with the player, the Reds are reported by Le360 Sport to have gone one step further and made a concrete offer to him. There is also interest in Ait Boudlal from other clubs in France as well as two clubs in Spain. Who is Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal? Given his young age and lack of top-level game time, most soccer fans are unlikely to have heard of him, but he is highly rated. In October last year, Ait Boudlal was named by English newspaper The Guardian as one of world's best 2006-born players. In February, he was sent on loan to French second tier side Amiens for the remainder of the campaign, and went on to make nine appearances, with eight of those coming as starts. Le360 Sport reports that Ait Boudlal is noted for "his ability to pass, his defensive intelligence, and a maturity rare for his age." Reds' transfer window state of play Boudlal is one of several players Liverpool is pursuing ahead of next season, with the club also working on deals for more high-profile targets in Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez. Advertisement Wirtz recently decided that he wanted to join Liverpool ahead of Bayern Munich, and there is belief that a deal could be wrapped up before the summer's first transfer window closes on June 10 — even if it isn't, the window reopens less than a week later and runs until the beginning of September. Talks are also ongoing over Kerkez, who the club has identified as its preferred long-term successor to Andy Robertson, who will turn 32 next season. Robertson was asked about Liverpool's interest in Kerkez ahead of Scotland's friendly with Iceland on Friday and responded: "We're not daft, it looks as if a deal could potentially be done. "But, until that is done, I've not even given that a second thought. I back myself. I've got confidence in my own ability and that drives me forward."

Bayer Leverkusen 'threatened with legal action' as Florian Wirtz to Liverpool takes fresh twist
Liverpool's transfer of Florian Wirtz could result in a legal dispute between Bayer Leverkusen and FC Koln. The Reds are leading the race to sign Wirtz, who has established himself as one of the best young players in Europe after two stellar seasons with Leverkusen. A former Leverkusen chief has even said he knows what's happening with Wirtz's potential move to Anfield. Advertisement While Wirtz's move to Liverpool is not yet confirmed, there is already some conjecture about the figure that Leverkusen will have to pay Koln. Given the 2024 Bundesliga champions are said to be holding out for a fee of €150 million ($171M/£126M), even five percent could be a significant fee. READ MORE: Arne Slot told he could get his own Kevin De Bruyne with mega Liverpool transfer READ MORE: Florian Wirtz latest as Bayer Leverkusen talks 'advanced' amid Liverpool medical timeline Wirtz moved from the latter to Leverkusen as a teenager. Under FIFA statutes, the player's first club could be entitled to five percent of his next transfer fee due to guidelines surrounding 'training compensation.' That applies to players who left a club between the ages of 12 and 23. Advertisement Koln's president Dr. Werner Wolf said the club is willing to 'fight' to ensure it receives the appropriate amount. "Of course, we are looking into it. We know what we are entitled to and will fight for it," Wolf said on Radio Cologne. "We're looking at this with both eyes. We'll benefit from it. The higher the sum Liverpool is willing to pay, the better for us." Training Compensation is designed to reward clubs that prioritize player development and prevent bigger teams from picking off the best talents for a minor fee. There is conjecture over the exact breakdown of the transfer price and how it is calculated. Wirtz is still expected to complete his move to Liverpool, although momentum in the transfer saga has cooled somewhat in recent days. That may be due to Wirtz's involvement at international level. Advertisement Wirtz nodded when asked in the mixed zone by the Daily Mail's Lewis Steele whether he is looking forward to joining Liverpool. Meanwhile, former Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has said he expects the transfer to be concluded. 'It's no secret that he'd like to go to Liverpool,' Voller told DAZN. 'I know the clubs are negotiating with each other. '[With] transfers like this [it's] often the case that it takes a while until an agreement is finally reached. Of course, in the end, you have the feeling it will go through.'

Michael Owen admits Premier League rival had him 'fearing for his career'
Michael Owen said that the Brazilian Ronaldo left him feeling as though he had "no chance" at the top level — despite Owen himself being one of the most prodigious teenagers England has ever produced. Advertisement Owen burst onto the scene as a teenager in the 1990s and went on to win the Ballon d'Or in 2001 after Liverpool won the UEFA Cup, FA Cup and League Cup in the same season. His brilliance for Liverpool saw Real Madrid swoop in for him in 2004, where Owen became teammates with Ronaldo, a player he had previously marveled at when watching him on television. Owen appeared on talkSPORT this week and was asked to build his perfect player from his former teammates, and he chose Ronaldo as one of the players due to his speed. READ MORE: Liverpool transfer news LIVE: Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez latest as fourth target emerges READ MORE: Who is Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal? Liverpool linked with teenager also wanted by Newcastle Advertisement 'Ronaldo, he was just phenomenal," Owen said. 'There were a couple of players in my career when I thought I was decent and coming through, and thinking I was going to make it and turned on the telly and watched R9 and thought 'if that's the level I've got no chance'.' There were also mentions for former Liverpool players Robbie Fowler and Emile Heskey. Selecting Fowler for his brilliant left foot, Owen said: "Robbie Fowler, pure finisher, he struck the ball so neatly, just thuds it with loads of power, short backlift, great finisher and great left foot. "Some people are great at certain things, but Robbie was brilliant at virtually everything, he was just a natural finisher, he knew exactly where the goal was, he didn't even have to look." Owen chose Heskey for his strength, saying: "Emile Heskey was great, everything I couldn't do he could do, we just fit perfectly. Advertisement "He was unplayable for a couple of seasons for Liverpool, he was so strong, so quick, and scored a load of goals as well, I think people don't appreciate him enough." Owen went on to name Arsenal legend Thierry Henry as the best Premier League player of all time. The Frenchman made 258 appearances in the English top flight., scoring 175 times and registering 73 assists 'I got into the Premier League at 17 and won the Golden Boot and then won it again at 18,' Owen said. 'And then Thierry Henry came over and I looked at him and thought 'I'm never going to win one of those again.' Those players were just — wow, how do you compete?'
