JPJ confiscating commercial vehicles from companies employing foreign drivers
PETALING JAYA : The road transport department (JPJ) will confiscate vehicles owned by companies and licensed operators that employ foreigners to drive commercial vehicles, effective today.
JPJ's senior enforcement director Kifli Ma Hassan said this includes lorries, public service vehicles (PSV) and tour buses that use foreign drivers.
He said based on current regulations, foreigners are not allowed to hold vocational licences such as goods driving licences (GDL) or PSV licences.
'Enforcement action can be taken under Sections 22, 41, 57 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 for violating permit conditions and Section 80, which says officers can seize a commercial company's vehicle and have it forfeited in court if found guilty,' Bernama reported him as saying at the JPJ enforcement station in Gombak today.
Kifli said there has been an increasing trend of companies and licensed operators employing foreigners for around RM2,500 a month.
As of July this year, JPJ has issued 2,733 summonses against foreigners driving commercial vehicles, with 2,551 of them for not having GDLs, 93 for not having PSV licences and 89 for overloading.
'Licensed companies and operators in the transport industry are urged to always comply with the regulations set and ensure that every employee hired has valid documents and qualifications,' he said.

MCMC records statement over false content in Zara Qairina's case
MCMC said the person was summoned to the Cheras police headquarters yesterday, where a mobile phone and a SIM card were also seized to assist investigations. – Bernama photo KUALA LUMPUR (Aug 10): The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has recorded a statement from an individual over false content circulated on social media in connection with the late Zara Qairina Mahathir's case. In a statement, MCMC said the person was summoned to the Cheras police headquarters yesterday, where a mobile phone and a SIM card were also seized to assist investigations. 'The content is believed to contain false information touching on 3R issues (race, religion and royalty), which could cause public confusion and disrupt the authorities' investigation,' the statement read. The case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 [Act 588], which carries a maximum fine of RM500,000, up to two years' imprisonment, or both, upon conviction. MCMC also urged the public to allow the investigation process to run its course and to be wary of speculative content that could mislead the public. 'The spread of unverified information not only risks hurting the feelings of the victim's family but also breaches ethical values and may interfere with the course of justice,' the commission said. Zara Qairina, 13, was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu on July 17, a day after she was found unconscious in a drain near the dormitory of a religious school in Papar around 4 am. Yesterday, the Form One student's grave was exhumed on the orders of the Attorney-General's Chambers, which called for further investigations to ensure every aspect of the case is thoroughly scrutinised. – Bernama

Eda Ezrin and companions claim victimisation in Kelantan police probe
KOTA BHARU: Kelantan police have verified that statements from Eda Ezrin, her husband, and a friend align in their allegations of being wronged. State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat stated that all three accused two acquaintances, a man and a woman, of victimising them. 'Police are actively searching for the two individuals named by Eda Ezrin, as they are already under surveillance for a drug-related case,' he said during a press conference at the Kelantan police headquarters. On Aug 7, Eda Ezrin and five others, including her husband, were released by the Narathiwat Prison Court due to insufficient evidence from Thai prosecutors. The court rejected the prosecution's sixth request to extend the appeal deadline, leading to their release. The group had been detained since Nov 1 last year over allegations of possessing 6,059 Yaba pills. Following their repatriation to Kelantan last Thursday and Friday, police recorded their statements at the Rantau Panjang police station and Kelantan police headquarters. - Bernama
