JPJ confiscating commercial vehicles from companies employing foreign drivers
PETALING JAYA : The road transport department (JPJ) will confiscate vehicles owned by companies and licensed operators that employ foreigners to drive commercial vehicles, effective today.
JPJ's senior enforcement director Kifli Ma Hassan said this includes lorries, public service vehicles (PSV) and tour buses that use foreign drivers.
He said based on current regulations, foreigners are not allowed to hold vocational licences such as goods driving licences (GDL) or PSV licences.
'Enforcement action can be taken under Sections 22, 41, 57 of the Land Public Transport Act 2010 for violating permit conditions and Section 80, which says officers can seize a commercial company's vehicle and have it forfeited in court if found guilty,' Bernama reported him as saying at the JPJ enforcement station in Gombak today.
Kifli said there has been an increasing trend of companies and licensed operators employing foreigners for around RM2,500 a month.
As of July this year, JPJ has issued 2,733 summonses against foreigners driving commercial vehicles, with 2,551 of them for not having GDLs, 93 for not having PSV licences and 89 for overloading.
'Licensed companies and operators in the transport industry are urged to always comply with the regulations set and ensure that every employee hired has valid documents and qualifications,' he said.

MCMC also urged the public to allow the investigation process to run its course and to be wary of speculative content that could mislead the public. 'The spread of unverified information not only risks hurting the feelings of the victim's family but also breaches ethical values and may interfere with the course of justice,' the commission said. Zara Qairina, 13, was pronounced dead at Queen Elizabeth I Hospital in Kota Kinabalu on July 17, a day after she was found unconscious in a drain near the dormitory of a religious school in Papar around 4 am. Eda Ezrin and companions claim victimisation in Kelantan police probe
KOTA BHARU: Kelantan police have verified that statements from Eda Ezrin, her husband, and a friend align in their allegations of being wronged. State police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat stated that all three accused two acquaintances, a man and a woman, of victimising them. 'Police are actively searching for the two individuals named by Eda Ezrin, as they are already under surveillance for a drug-related case,' he said during a press conference at the Kelantan police headquarters. Vietnamese man who tried to snatch baby remanded for four days
BUTTERWORTH: A Vietnamese man who allegedly tried to snatch an 11-month-old baby while fleeing after being caught stealing from a supermarket in Telaga Air yesterday has been remanded for four days. Seberang Perai Utara police chief Assistant Commissioner Anuar Abd Rahman said the 36-year-old was remanded until Aug 13 to facilitate investigations under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft, Section 324 for causing hurt, and Section 506 for criminal intimidation. "The suspect tested negative for drugs, and he has no prior record," Anuar said. A video of the incident has gone viral, showing the suspect holding a plastic bag and a knife, trying to pull the baby from a woman's arms. The incident occurred at 12.45pm when a supermarket supervisor caught the man trying to leave with some weighed seafood without paying. As the supervisor intervened, the suspect broke free and grabbed the baby while brandishing a knife. Staff and shoppers quickly overpowered and handed him over to the police when they arrived at the scene. —BERNAMA
